May 2018 Mummies Trimester 3!

What made you think your waters has broken? This is my first so I really don’t know what to expect, I’ve read lots of different stories about how it can happen. My midwife hasn’t asked me about my birth plan yet, I’m not sure if I’m supposed to write it on my own or if she will go through it with me, is that why your doctor is already talking about epidurals and c-sections?

Had my appointment it was very straight forward, the consultant said we was being sensible in choosing to have one and she would have done the same. I'm booked in already I chose the birthday 15th may a huge weight has been lifted x

Hope your appointment goes well today liz .
Lucy you will know when your waters go. I had a slow leak and I still felt them go.
Sparrow your midwife usually discusses how you want to give birth

Ah that's great claire_louise I had a feeling it wouldnt be as much of a battle as you thought.

Lucy both my pregnancies my waters didnt go til right at the end of labour, went through all the contraction stage and then POP goes the water and then out pops the baby. So i have no experience of waters going as a sign of going into labour!

a bit frustrating in terms of not really getting to sit down with anyone who knew what was going on.....passed round from one department to another who only knew what they had been told to monitor and not why....

i went for monitoring spent about an hour on a heartrate/movement monitor first which i hadnt expected as there have been no issues with movements , was scanned for cord and fluid which was all fine (i thought that was all i was going to be in for and to talk with the consultant) didnt even get to sit down with a doctor, he just stuck his head round while i was on the monitor and told me that it was bad baby wasnt growing and i probably wouldnt make it to term, but that cord flow and fluid was good. no mention of steroids or any information on what might happen .. so i dont really know whats going on. After all they have only 2 growth scans to go on and arent they notoriously unreliable?

I had been told i would have another growth scan later this week but today they said no, it will just be cord and liquor again. So I have to try to work out the situation from all the random bits and pieces from all the different departments and i am concluding that at the moment all is ok but they are monitoring and expecting it to become not ok at some point, but clearly must be ok for the next week and a half at least until the next growth scan. If i hadnt been googling like mad i really wouldnt have any idea what the situation was but instead i'm just figuring it out myself......i dont think there is any answer at this stage as to how early the baby might have to come out, as long as there is some growth and cord flow etc is ok they wil keep her in as long as possible but the minute there are warning signs it might be a 24 hr notice to evacuate!

Oh no liz sorry you was just passed about and not getting any answers yet, I just think for now you need to take not needing a growth scan yet as a positive and they are not as worried as once thought. Fingers crossed she has grown more for your next one. I know they are not always accurate and she's probably bigger than what the scans are showing . Still good news about the cord though x

it's not that - they wont do a growth scan because there has to be 2 weeks in between for accuracy- which is what they had told me first off.....nobody has really explained why the cord can be fine but the growth stopped. They keep saying baby has 'stopped growing' which i think is a bit scaremongering considering she DID grow but just not much! I'm a bit concerned now that seeing as they cant scan for another 2 weeks , if it is bad then, i havent had the steroids needed for early delivery. Her abdo measurement had not changed at all in the 2 weeks between scans which is an indicator that there is not enough goodness getting through, so how bad might it be in 2 weeks??. One of the sonogrpahers/midwives said they presume the placenta is failing. I think its one of those things where they have time to step in as long as being monitored , and i will be in twice a week from now, i'm just a little concerned that i didnt get the talk about steroids that i had been told i would have. The steroids are needed at least 24 hours before delivery to mature a premature babies lungs.

Can you call and ask over the phone why they didn't talk to you about steroids at the appt and if they can at the next one? Sorry you're not getting direct answers that can be frustrating.

After a well deserved week off of work at the school (February break) and one day at home (yesterday) still recovering from this ear infection, I'm back at work. Already looking forward to Friday. I woke up in misery yesterday and called in to say I couldn't make it in. I think that extra day did me good because this morning I didn't wake up in pain. Took my Tylenol this morning and ear drops so I will stay on top of it while at work to ensure it's clearing up.

I'm 31 weeks today :) and baby shower on Sunday so this week should end on a fun note. Hope all is well with you all!

That's great your ear is clearing up and your not in pain . You need to be fighting fit for your baby shower xx

hey all, I've been a silent lurker waiting to move from second tri to this thread! I've just been for a growth scan as at the 28week appt on friday I measured small ... and apparently the baby's femur is measuring small (hopefully it's just a mis-measurement as the consultant said could be the case, as everything else measured ok) but now been referred to the fetal medicine unit for a more indepth scan. has anyone else had this, or known someone who has?

i'll be back for monitoring thursday so hopefully will get to speak to somebody who knows something then!

Thank you! I'm keeping up on the pain relievers so to stay comfortable and I set reminders in my phone on when to take the ear drops. I need to be back to normal soon. Busy week approaching and need to be in tip top shape.

Good morning!

Here are some more shots from the maternity shoot. These are the ones with my partner included. :)

Every where is shut my way Liz, I’ve had to cancel my 31 week Midwife app today as I’m just not even attempting to go out side so it’s rearranged for next Wednesday xx

Liz hopefully you can still have your appointment tomorrow, we haven't had any snow here yet but I think it's going to start lightly tommorrow but heavy on Friday .
