***April & May Mummy & Baby***

Nurse checked me out and all is good. Swabs weren't nice, reminded me what the stretch & sweeps were like. She asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant and I laughed!

Try not to worry about routines, they will find their own rountine. We don't bath every night (I try lol!) but he will always start to fall asleep about 10ish. But he doesn't nap in the day for longer than half an hour so is knackered by bedtime xx

Lovely lol - Glad to hear all is well!

Absolutely agree - routine isn't too important right now and sometimes it may be easier to be guided by baby, rather than becoming obsessed by what you as parents want...I just wanted to try and get him into an evening routine, so it gave me and DH a bit of time together at the end of the evening :-) xx

I just missed that post lol!!

Did you coax JJ into that routine or did he fall into it himself?

Lol no worries! Initially he wasn't really falling asleep until 11pm, but we were still only top and tailing at that point as his cord hadn't dropped off - so couldn't do the whole bath / feed / bed thing.

As soon as it had dropped off and we knew we could bath him every day (so from about 2.5 weeks old I think) - we started bathing him at 20.30pm, giving a bottle and daddy cuddles straight after - and my DH would rock him to sleep - then we would put him down in the lounge with us and take him to bed around 10.30pm-ish.

Now, DH gives him a bottle and he falls asleep on his own around 21.30pm every night - and last week we started putting him to bed upstairs on his own and it has worked every night so far. It took a few weeks to get there, but it worked in the end :-) xx

Ok that is really good. I'm looking forward to getting to that point just to have the guaranteed time off more than anything! I kinda started to understand how much sleep he gets etc but it changes every nap time so I never really get to take advantage of him sleeping longer as Im sometimes up waiting for him to wake up lol

I'm sure we'll get into one soon

Can someone tell me exactly how to sterilise the dr browns natural flow bottles. I've got the tommee tippee steriliser. Do you leave the bit inside the bottle, in the bottle to sterilise it? The instructions are crap! Hope the bottles are better x

Went for 6 week check wasn't what I expected :wall2: I been having heart problems and need to go for eeg, other thank checking Eliza's cross eye problem they couldn't do 6 week check as shes to prem and wouldn't be helpful so back in 6 weeks. Took her to hospital appointment and Eliza had eeg due to being 7 weeks early and more meds for reflux x

I take the middle bit out of the bottle and just pop them into the microwave steriliser in four bits (bottle, teat, airflow bit and lid). The lid of the steriliser needs a bit of persuading to close but it's ok I guess!

Thanks hun- instructions are crap on both dr brown bottles and tommee tippee starter kit. We cant even work out how to use the microwave steriliser! Cant find instructions and hubby has looked online to no avail. We are useless between us haha! We've managed to fit the bottle in bits. Do you just put in 80ml of water like in the big tommee tippee sterilisers? How long in the microwave? We haven't got a very powerful one x

Advice anyone- Ruby takes 3/4 of milk for her feed fine then when she only has about an oz left she gets very wriggly, red faced and cries. She knocks the bottle out of her mouth but then gets upset and wants it back. I've tried stopping her frequently to burp her (though she mainly burped herself!) and rest her because I thought she was crying because she was full and couldn't fit more in despite being greedy. The crying is worst on an evening. She does settle after a bit of cooing and rocking but I don't know what she wants. Is she colicky? In already using infacol, should I try colief? I'm already trying the Dr Brown bottles to see if that helps with the wind xx

Hey I have the tommee tippee electric steam steriliser, not sure if it's the one you have? I'm also using the tommee tippee comfort bottles (they have an air vent too) what do is take all the bottles to pieces pop the bottle, teat and lid into appropriate places. The air vent comes in 2 parts also, the long tube bit and a white disk part. The disk part goes underneath the teat and the tube part stands next to the bottles. It all fits in the steriliser beautifully.

Hope this helps you to figure out a way to sterilise the dr brown bottles.

MrsHope if Libby gets like that she's normally overtired.

I don't think she is over tired. She's doing it now and she's only had two attempts at her bottle. I'm so confused x

It's entirely up to you hun.

It didn't work for us, but to be honest i think Harrison's problem was with his milk. We've now changed milks and he's like a different baby!

The colief works by reducing lactose in the milk, but they can be awkward to make up the bottles. The instructions say to make a bottle up apply 4 drops leave it half hour then feed to baby, which is great if your baby is in an established feeding routine. The other option is to batch make them apply 2 drops and store in the fridge, which again is no good if you follow guidelines that says not to batch make.

To be honest you can buy comfort milk which has low lactose already so no need for the drops. But the milk doesn't taste very nice. Normal milk is sweet, the comfort milk tastes like gone off milk! **boke** The comfort milk is slightly more expensive but is nothing compared to the colief. It costs about £13 for a tiny bottle that only lasted us 3 days.

In my mind the pro's to the colief is it goes straight in normal milk and so tastes nice, cons is it's so expensive.

Pro's for comfort formula is it lasts longer, con's it tastes foul. And harrison would spit most of it out and so would be starving again within an hour!

Hope some of this info helps you make a choice x x

Hello ladies,

Well yesterday was awful. Harrison was not a happy bunny. I'd changed him over to comfort like after he had been suffering with colic. I ended up at the doctors with him yesterday after ringing to see if i could give him half a dose of gripe water. They asked for me to take him in for a check up and some advise.

I spoke with the nurse explained what had been going on and she advised to take him off the comfort as it seemed to be disagreeing with him. I told her about his constant routing and feeding and she said to try him on hungry baby milk. So i went out and bought the hungry milk.

Oh my goodness what a difference already! Last night was the first time he's every settled himself with out screaming the house down and needing bouncing up and down etc. He woke at about 9pm had half a bottle, then bathed him, had the other half of bottle (4oz in total) then popped him straight into bed. He fussed slightly so just popped his dummy in. Within half hour he was snoring his head off!!

He then woke at 2.50am and 6.30am both times he settled beautifully. So he's still waking for his normal feeds only he's not as uspet anymore which is brilliant.

Also he no longer sleeps in his moses basket, i think he hates it lol Never has settled in it, so he's been sleeping in his pram cot, i've just been popping it on the floor next to my bed. And last night i popped a hot water bottle in his bed to warm it up before putting him in and for an hour before putting him down i had one of his snuggle blankets stuffed down my top. So when it was time to put him down he went into a nice warm bed and popped in his blanket so he could still smell me!

No sure if any of these worked but needless to say i'll be trying again tonight. :D x xx

Thanks hun! I'm using cow and gate and I don't know if they do a comfort milk. She is not as windy using the dr brown bottles I don't think but on occasion she just won't settle! Like now- ages been up since about 5:50am. She's had two bottles and the odd 15min snooze but is ridiculously unsettled. She is due a poo as hasn't done one for ages so it could be that. Poor little thing! We've tried everything and don't know what to do! :( xxx

Morning ladies.
Last nite Ava had her bottle at 7.30 and didnt wake till 4.45!!
Last week I was in 2 minds weather or not to introduce a dream feed? Posted on the forum to get some advice from other ladies. Iv decided to leave it, a few of them said and I spoke to hv, Ava seems to be in a good "routine" and I don't wana ruin that. She normally goes from 8-8.30 pm to 4-4.30am. Ideally I would like her to be going to bed at 8pm . She had her last bottle last nite 7.30pm and went down to sleep just after 8. Getting there.
Taking her to the docs Monday as she has really dry/sore skin in the creases of her arms, hv suggested aveeno but not helped, think she may need something to go in bath. X

Ps Ruby isn't going to fit in her Moses for much longer so going to try her in the cot x

Some people are for and against it, but my first born suffered with a tad of constipation when he was tiny baby. My health visitor advised giving a few sips of water through out the day to help soften his stools. I did this and it really did help, his poops were lovely and soft after that. And i stuck with giving him water on occasion through out his first few months.

Some people are against giving water though, as if your stupid with the amounts it can lead to complications such as diluting the babies sodium levels (i think). So you just have to be sensible and not allow him/her to drink oz's of the stuff!

I give harrison the occasional few sips of warm water as it helps with wind also ;) 2 birds with one stone! :)

Oh and i think most brands do some form of milk for colic, but you may have to go to boots or some big supermarket.
