***April & May Mummy & Baby***

Well it's my first night on my own with Harrison. I've had OH backup these last few weeks but he's gone on his friends stag do out of town. He left this morning so i've been on my own all day, which isn't so bad as i'm on my own in the week with him until OH gets home. My sister is coming round for a few hours tonight to break up my night, gonna grab a soak in the bath when she's here. Then hopefully Harrison will be as settled as last night and i'll be able to grab and early night.

I'm really missing OH :( You'd think i'd be great full of the peace and quiet! LOL

Emma, I used hungry milk a couple of weeks ago and it worked a treat but then I read online that your not supposed to use it on really young babies. Guess I should have asked HV instead!

Is he taking as much of the hungry milk? Joseph only took half his usual amount. That said he is only 5 weeks tomorrow and he is on 6oz, then cries for more and is quite frequently taking 8oz now! I worry that is far too much and wonder how the heck I'll keeo him off food until he is 6 mo! X

I have read the same thing, the reason being the hungry milk has higher levels of Casein which can cause constipation in young babies. Well at the min i'm offering small amounts of cooled boiled water every few feeds to help with his colic, so i'm thinking this will combat any issues with constipation. You never know what to do for the best as the milk cartons say for newborns yet HV say not to use it. I think like every thing else it's all trial and error?!

If i find he's getting constipated then i'll move him back onto stage 1. It's not affected his feeds a such, he's still drinking around 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours, but he seems more content for longer after the feed. On the other milks he was either spitting out more than he was drinking or wasn't happy after the feed.

I suppose time will tell :/

I'm going back to stage one to see if that was why she was grumpy during her feed x

Ok so I am at a loss what to do with his feeding now. Last week Joseph was on 5oz, he then out of nowhere jumped to 6. After that point his feeding became erratic and he was having as much as 9oz or as little as 3oz. Nurse said not to worry as it would even out over a 25 hour period.

However he had 6oz at about 10pm, then 8oz at 4am, another 8oz 8am we then decided to try the hungry milk for his 12pm and he had 8oz of that! Then 6oz at 4.30pm! He is only 5 weeks tomorrow so I don't know what to do as this is far too much. He's not downing it, it is taking me 2 hours or so to feed him. He will have 4oz at once, then snooze for 10 mins, take another oz and so on but doesn't calm down until after 8oz. He's hysterical now cos he only had 6oz at 4.30pm. I really don't know what to do xx

Have you tried next teat size?

Could it be that? I didn't know that related to hunger, what a dummy! Lol x

It just sounds like a long time to drink milk, dont worry about quantity too much unless he brings it up. My son always liked his milk, he still has 2 bottles a day at 21 months

Its unlikely he will take what he doesnt need, its only if they have reflux, they tend to comfort eat. He isnt a small boy as well.
Try bigger teat, see how it goes. My son was mixed fed so we were stuck.on number 2 for a long time but if he is just on bottles, he will go up the sizes faster. xxx

Hey hun i dress Harrison in a long sleeved vest and nothing else. Then he has a single blanket covering from the waist down. My house is really warm but I dare not open the bedroom window in case the temp plummets in the night!

Xx

It has been boiling here in Germany (35') & Ella has been sleeping in just a nappy & one of those thin inner sleeping bags with long arms. Normally she has a long-sleeved body, an inner sleeping bag with long arms & a thicker outer sleeping bag with no arms. I also make sure the windows are open in the bedroom in the evening to cool the room temp down too.

That's what I've had Ruby in because it was so hot in our bedroom! I haven't a clue about whether she is cold/hot or not. Arghh x

You can always check the back of baby's neck ladies, if its hot/sweaty - remove a layer etc. My first son always needed 1 more layer than recommended. Some need less

Awwww hun, I bet it was a shock for you because he has been so good and I was very jel of you getting so much sleep. It could just be a phase! Ruby is on 3hr feeds still. The odd time she will go shorter or longer. She has just screamed for a bottle, hubby has made one and she is asleep in my arms! Little minx. They r so naughty! You could try upping his feed but he might not want it all. It's trial and error is suppose xxx
