Jasmine Grace Hill- born on 16th May at 07.04 weighing 7.4lbs, hope everyone is well and not too tired! Haha xxx

Oooooh I didn't know this thread had been started. Ellie Mae Blake was born on 20/05/14 at 8lbs exactly arrival time 9.27pm.

She started on the breast but due to her using more as a pacifier than a food source pretty much constantly her weight did drop. We've now moved to formula and she's much more content and also my oh has enjoyed doing the feeding also. We were still just under birth weight on Friday at 10 days old but are attending the hv clinic Wednesday and hoping she would of come up and over by then. She pretty much feeds every 3 hours sometimes 4 on her first sleep at night. She also takes extra milk on some bottles the last few days so is building a hunger.

As for me my boobs have recovered from being painfully engorged after starting ff and my stitches are nearly healed. I'd pretty much stopped having bleeding but the last two days I've been more active so it started up again. My skinny jeans are an inch from doing up again and I'm 12 lbs above my pre pregnancy weight.... Been pelvic floor and core exercising each day :D

How's everyone else as we enter into June x

Baby girl Heidi born 4th may weighing 7lb 12oz.....where has the time gone?! Xxx

Hello ladies. Hope everyone is well and settling into their time with babies! I'm a. But anxious today as We have two appointments today. One is with audiology and it's for DH and I to ask questions about her hearing impairment. I'll need to think of some as haven't had a chance really. We also have an appointment with the community paediatrician. I'm quite nervous about that one as I think we will get results from her MRI and EEG which will give us an indication of if there is lasting brain damage from her seizures. We were told there is a 25-75% chance she has cerebral palsy - I thought that was a pretty useless statistic!

Can I stay? I missed by 17 hours! Lol. Xx

Edit: good luck today Emma! Sending you positive vibes! X

Luisa may Simpson born 24/05/2014 at 23.07 by emergency c-section at 13 days overdue xx

How'd it go Emma?

Harry has gained 26oz in 15 days and now weighs 10lbs 5oz.... Seems having his tongue tie cut means he's gaining approx 13oz per week. He's going to be a right chubby cheeks x

Unfortunately there was no good news yesterday. We are trying to come to terms with things but she has significant brain damage to white and grey matter and is likely to have LD and cerebral palsy nothing set in stone though - need to wait and see.

Morning mummies, how are we all?

I know Zachary is only on his 4th day with us but looking for advice on some things.
Firstly breastfeeding, he latches on but it stings, I unlatch him, and wait for him to try again. I swear im doing the same thing that the midwife showed me yesterday, he's feeding two hourly at the moment it seems, falls asleep after I unlatch him.

Also he hates having his nappy chaged. I don't strip him down for it. Really hates being washed.

are these just typically newborn issues? I'm seeing the midwife again tomorrow so I'll bring up the latching then, but us there anything else that j can try today? Xx

Hi hun, stinging could mean it's a shallow latch and your nipples are taking all the pressure. Are you making sure the nipple goes deep in his mouth so his gums are latching onto your areola? Also, the nipple needs to be pointed toward the roof of his mouth, basically make sure more of the areola is visible above his mouth than below it (does that make sense?).

Apart from initial latch on, you shouldn't be experiencing any pain once the latch has been established, though you may find the sensation of letdown can be quite uncomfortable.

Has your milk come in yet? And are you suffering any engorgement? The latter can make it difficult to latch.

There are various techniques for nursing, your midwife may have shown you one that you don't get on with. You'll find that everyone tells you to bring baby to the breast, but that has never worked for me in over 3 years of breastfeeding. I always bring my breast to baby. Don't be afraid to try different techniques, the one that works for you is the right one, not what the books or health professionals tell you. The only thing I'd strongly recommend is to make sure you and baby are comfortable, so ensure you are sitting with good back support using a footstool if necessary and that you are using a suitable cushion to support baby.

As for nappy changes, William hates them too, screams the roof down sometimes lol. As soon as he's got a fresh nappy back on, he's all smiles again. So yes, it's a normal newborn thing. :)

I'm really sorry to hear that Emma. I guess its a case of taking a day at a time. I know from reading story's on hear that babies can really suprise us with their ability to adapt and recover even when not expected. Sending you lots of love and best wishes xxxxx

Jazz, Summer still screams blue murder through a lot of nappy changes. I try to do it after feeding on one side as it is worse if she is hubgry . xx

Not sure re the breastfeeding as I'm still muddling through myself! I know that when my milk first came through and I was a bit engorged it was a bit uncomfy though so could just be that.

We are doing OK. Breastfeeding is still a bit challenging for us. Summer is still having expressed bottles for her 12 and 3am feed as she doesn't seem to feed well off the breast when she is tired and it can take forever and she gets frustrated. Today she seems to be feeding every hour and a half so its a bit tiring but hoping this is normal and just a little growth spurt!

Also are your lo's sick much? She wasn't for the first week or two but has starting bringing up bits of milk with burps etc. I know a bit is normal but it seems quite often so becoming paranoid it could be reflux!

Hope all you mummies are well xxxx

Emma, so sorry I missed your post! I'm sorry you've had such worrying news. As has already been said, babies brains are incredible at repairing themselves so there is every chance she won't be affected so badly in the long-term. Doctors will always give you the worst case scenario, so please don't give up hope. xxx

William has been a bit more sicky in the last few days. I think it's because I've got a bit of over-supply lol and he takes in more than he can handle. Reflux is usually accompanied by discomfort and is worse when baby is lying down. If neither if these circumstances apply, it's unlikely baby has reflux. :)

Sounds like your LO is cluster feeding. It usually accompanies a growth spurt and is a way of baby telling your boobs to make even more milk. It can last 1-3 days and feeding will then go back to normal until the next spurt. Don't be tempted to supplement as then your boobs won't get the message to ramp up supply and you'll find you can't keep baby satisfied.

Newborns are often a bit rubbish at latching, especially when tired. William can be a real pain to latch sometimes, he'll happily sniff or lick the nipple, but can't be bothered to actually open his mouth lol.

The good news is that by around 4-6 weeks, they suddenly figure out how the whole thing works and start latching like a pro, even when fast asleep! :D

Thankyou! Its nice to have some reassurance from a stm! As a ftm I worry about everything, lol! X

You're very welcome. :) I'm always happy to answer questions, particularly about breastfeeding. Even if you just want some positive encouragement when it all feels overwhelming, feel free to pop me a message.
