* * * * * May 2014 Mummies * * * * *

Had my appointment this afternoon - baby is head diwn, 4/5 engaged. I understand that doesn't mean too much at this stage but I'll hold on to the excitment of it for another few hours yet! At least baby is still head down :) blood pressure and urine fine. Not much to say about headaches and dizziness really. Sharp pain I told her about is probably muscle.

Just wondering if baby's head being engaged might have made my SPD worse the last few days as I haven't really done too much to aggravate it?! Who knows!

Xx

even though im a complete novice vic I would say baby beginning to engage would make spd worse.

I have had a very active baby tooday, he seemed to enjoy being part of the dementia project at work today much more than I did! I'm wondering if he's dropped a bit because I dont get feet in the ribs anymore, and seem to have experienced a few fanny daggers that have made me wince.

now ladies now we are getting closer, what are we all planning on doing for mattress protection? x

Ooh, that's good Vic. I wasn't 4/5ths engaged with my son until 36+2, so you're a couple of weeks ahead of me lol. I had him at 39+2.

I doubt I'll be engaged yet as it doesn't happen until close to labour with 2nd+ pregnancies. Will get midwife to check when I see her Friday though.

Engagement will aggravate SPD yes. Sorry to say it, but you'll only feel more uncomfortable as baby moves down further. Good excuse to put your feet up more often and tell the OH to pamper you lol.

You mean for if our waters break at home? I've got some large puppy pads that I will put under my fitted sheet. Last time, the midwife gave me some waterproof pads, maybe yours would do the same?

My waters did go on the bed last time, so I imagine it will happen again lol.

Lol my waters went when I picked up my bowl off the dinning table from breakfast to take through to the kitchen. I never managed to get a waterproof mattress protector with him being in neonatal and leaked a sea of milk most nights, cleaned it all up and carried on, but we're planning to get a new mattress after this baby anyway x

Yeah mattress protection, I hear if waters go gushing there's no saving the mattress without it being protected!
I just got a new mattress last year, so don't wanna be buying a new one again!
Will inco sheets be enough? X

Thanks ladies! I'm not expecting baby to magically arrive at 37/38 weeks and I know baby could become 'free' again but at least I know what all the period pain and cramping have been now! And yes I thought it would make sense about the SPD as my SPD pain is so low down anyway. Luckily my back and hips are still somehow pain free! I had to be hauled up from the bed after the checks today! Well those beds are tiny and I have to turn onto my side - was afraid i'd fall off! Just couldn't separate my legs to get up! It's not like our stomach muscles are good at the moment! Oh and I was 33cm. One behind average all the way it's looking like :) x

Hi all, hope you're all well. I'm currently attempting to write a 1500 word autobiographical piece on my father for my ou degree. It's a lot harder than it sounds!!!! x

Oh god I didn't even think about mattress protection, I've literally had a new mattress delivered today haha. What can u use that is still comfy? Xxx

I am due 2nd May but have been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis, although my bile acids are normal a couple of other liver markers are very high.

I am being induced next Thursday 17th April at 1 day before 38 weeks!

Will I be the first original May mummy to have her baby??

FAO - there's apparently a lot if mixed messages on chicken pox, cuz I'm over 36w even though I've had it, I could still get it, if my immunity doesn't cover baby he/she may be born with it, or if my DS does catch it and is contagious when baby is born ten he/she may catch it.... It's a 50/50 so we'll have to wait and see - fingers crossed my DS keeps it away for now x

I can't remember how many weeks pg I was when I was told this, but I had it in childhood so prob immune. I nursed both daughters thru it and OH (when I was pg) and did not get it myself. Suffolkmum and sarah13 on another thread today posted interesting info, I would go with what they say, as they seem to know a lot about it!!!

Room looks brill, Sprog!

Glad to hear about good hosp appts and hope others go well that are coming up. Had mine this week too. Baby head down, growth consistent and on the big side of normal, including long legs! Weight estimated currently at 7lbs although sonographer said the estimate is often not accurate.
It certainly feels like I am lugging around a 7lb baby right now!

Had a "discussion" with my consultant about induction. She wants to do this at 39 weeks for no other reason than my age. We debated the RCOG and NICE guidelines and she conceded most of my points, but said she has to follow national guidelines with her advice. Well, we agreed to compromise, and I will have as much monitoring as she wants and so long as baby healthy and happy then he is better in than out. So after 40 weeks I go in for a scan and trace every other day. Fine by me. So far, tests show perfect placenta function, cord flow and baby growth, so she has no clinical reason to insist on a forced early labour. Esp as she admitted that I am more likely to have a csection just by being induced, and that would be unnecessary surgery.

Phew, she was hard work, but we politely reached agreement on a plan. Well, she thinks she will have a second go at persuading me at the next appt, but if all well, then I think not.

Funny thing was, she said it was "always possible" that I would go into labour by myself. I replied that it was not just possible, it was inevitable!! This baby will come at some point, only neither she nor I will know exactly when, lol!

I'll find out this week if my acids and liver markers have risen if they have I'll be looking at induction too! Hope everything goes smoothly for you x

Wow hunny good luck, I honestly thought I might have been the first but baby hasn't wanted to come in his/her own yet which is excellent :-)

Will see what position baby is in tomorrow and see what they want to do next, fingers crossed he/she has turned and I'm left to my own devices for the time being :-)

Will try to find it thanks hunny

I love it when they make ridiculous comments like that - I'm pretty sure I'd have to agree with you, failing that there would be some very large uncomfortable women out there lol.

Morning all. Barely slept again last night as was in so much pain with my back :( preg pillow does nothing anymore! On a brighter note, we've got our first antenatal class tonight which I'm very excited about :) xx

Have fun at your antenatal class hunny. Sorry your not sleeping, my sleep isn't great at the moment, but I just put it down to baby preparing me! Hope you sleep better tonight x
