How have you been feeling Russell? Sophs fx it all kicks off soon hun xx I'm feeling thoroughly pants tonight LO didn't feed for the first two days because of latch issues, we've been in and out of hospital and she's lost 1lb in 3 days. I said I'd bottle feed but they've decided I should try a feeding plan first using nipple shields to help the latch. Just exausted. Xx

Doob this is exactly what has been going on with me and both my LO's lost weight! I had latching issues with both of them and it's soooo frustrating as I always planned to BF but to be honest I tried every day in hospital and they'd both just scream in frustration and wave their hands everywhere. It seemed to be causing more aggravation than good so I expressed colostrum for them and when my milk came in I express whenever I can.
You're meant to express at least 8 times a day/night which is ridiculous, not sure how I'm supposed to do that when I've also got to sterilise the pump and bottles as well feed two bubs and find time for sleep! So now I express maybe 3 times a day, I know eventually my milk will probably stop because of this but I figure that if they at least get some of my milk it's better than nothing! I'm taking fenugreek capsules to keep my milk levels up and it seems to be helping.
The nipple shields I also tried and if I had one bubs I would have kept at that but to be honest when I think about bf-ing or even using nipple shields I just feel so negative. The babies still didn't really take to them but it was probably due to me being frustrated using them as I'd be trying with one bub and the other would then start screaming. The shields are possible though you just need a lot of patience and I've clearly run out
If you can I would definitely suggest buying an electric pump, I just sit down for about 15 minutes now and can get 100ml of my milk, so much easier. I mainly give Aptamil formula, it's not what I planned to do as I really wanted to solely BF but at the end of the day I want my bubs to eat and gain weight so don't beat yourself up if you do give formula, you need to rest too and this can all be exhausting xxx

p.s you can bottle feed and try the shields, the shields are used to act like a bottle and so your baby will still take to the shields xx

Thanks ladies, it's really hard isn't Sammy and I feel like a failure cos she's been in and out of hospital and I just think all I get is no you shouldn't FF but it's heartbreaking when I see her screaming in distress because I can't feed her with my stupid flat nipples. She's seems to have taken to the shields so going to see if she puts on weight with those and if not I'll FF. thing is my body is going ott on its production I am literally dripping. I can sometimes get 100ml in 10 mins hand expressing, and in the night it giesbthrough my pass and covera my top, my fridge is full. This means the mw is also saying to persevere. At the moment i attempt to latch for 10-20 mins and top her up woth 50ml expressed from
A cup. I want to but I don't like seeing my little girl lose so much weight so hoping at weigh in this new feeding plan has worked.

Russell- hugs, sorry youre feeling down fx LO takes notice xxx

My stupid emails are not updating me grrr. So sorry its hard doob, its just one of those things you expect to happen naturally. Haven't prepared myself for that stress yet. Do you have bf support groups near you??

I want labour pains now please! So over being scared about it now xx

I'm over being scared as well but is because ur waiting and indian daily you kind of think may as well lol.

My SIL was kept in with my niece as she lost a few pounds due to latching issues and had to be bottle fed but my sis says she wishes she done that in the first place to get home with LO. Must be so frustrating!

xxxxx

Sorry to hear its stopped hun :( :hugs:

There are bf support groups and the community mw have been good but it's really not how I thought it would be. I'd presumed it naturally worked x
