**** November 2012 Mummies **** (everyone welcome)

Hi ladies hope all is well!

Chloe I hope Lyla gets better soon. She is such a wee cutie even when she is ill though. But it's awful to see them not well. I can't believe she just has a cold from what you've said - but colds are bloody evil!

Missyeovil hope the gripe water works for poor Aela! It has always worked wonders for us. C is mostly bringing up her own wind now but seems to bring a lot of sick up with it?

We have had a fab day today. C is in such a good mood recently. We have started on some purées, just a few small spoonfuls each day but she loves it and cries when it's finished lol. She found an empty spoon absolutely hilarious today though, I've no idea why. Strange child. I crocheted her a bunny toy as well (called Dorothy!) and rather than cuddling it she likes to eat her legs!

There is one thing I will say about weaning though - the nappies are horrendous! I'm normally ok but some of them have had me gagging - and they are green!!!!

Carnat, glad James enjoyed his banana. But do be careful with strawberries. They aren't recommended as a first food as they are quite a common allergen and I think Wilson was saying Arthur had a wee bit of an upset tummy after them. Xx

Chloe, LM was the same the other week. The GP said put something under the top end of her bed, as laying flat doesnt allow our tubes/glands to drain of fluid and make us feel worse. It also helps the mucous to not build up, so can be swallowed easier and be pooed out rather than sicked up.

I tried some snufflebabe rubbed on her chest too and seemed to help.

Hope shes better soon!! Xx

Good thinking about the strawberries hun, I was going to check in my book tomorrow as I wasn't sure whether or not they were OK?

Also they are pretty small, I could see James managing to get a whole one in his mouth so we'll scrap that and stick to banana.

I do have a few Ella's Kitchen Puree's to try as well??? Although I was very disheartend to find the banana puree tastes nothing like banana. It puts me off using any more the pouches to be honest?? We have apple, pear and mango to try!

I haven't tried any of the single purées of Ella's kitchen. I spent an entire weekend making my own lol it was great fun but I went overboard and almost every fruit/vegetable you've ever heard of got whisked up in my blender. I do have some pouches to use when she stays out/if we're out for her food time/I am feeling lazy.

I think banana is quite tricky to keep ok though, I know you can't freeze it as apparently it just turns to black mush, so maybe that is the problem with the pouch tasting strange? Xx

Hi ladies

Chloe hope lyla feels better soon xx

Nat svoid strawberrys my bad on giving it arthur it gave him bad tummy ache all night :( hv said just go very bland if weaning before 6 months, so ghings like carrott mashed, pear, mash potato, etc, sally gave me heads up about stawberrys too so thankyou xx

Missyovil. Arthur very rarely winds these days but does fart like mad lol and they hong too!

Ive had arthur in his big cot from 8wk old, we are going to start to put him in his own room soon, try him with naps in his cot in the nursery as its a better mattress.
Xx

So far we have done apple, pear, carrot, sweet potato, and butternut squash and she loves all of them... She is a piglet xx

Thanks all. So after her vaccinations yesterday Lyla got a huge temperature and was sicking up everything she ate, had really bad diaohrea and had a little rash so had to phone out of hours. They were concerned so went up to the hospital at around 10pm wasn't seen until after 11pm even though my appointment was for 9:50pm and I had a 4 month old baby that should have been in bed!! :wall:

The doctor examined her and although she gave him a little smile because he was being silly she just wasn't herself. Very very high temp and hadn't eaten anything she hadn't sicked up in over 24 hours. I managed to keep 4 oz of water down her. The cough was still very apparent and the doctor was so concerned he asked me would I be able to manage at home because he would like to admit her to the baby ward :( I decided it was best for her to be at home with Mummy and Daddy so we were told to give her calpol every 4 hours to keep the temp down and try and get her to eat something at least. Gave us some dioralyte for her but said if we managed to get that down her it would be a miracle cos it tastes so bad! Also a bag to get a urine sample and have to go back today if things get worse!

When he found out that the doctors had said it was a cold and gave her the last set of vaccinations he was disgusted and said she has a gastrointestinal infection from a bug going around which is very dangerous for babies and they shouldn't have given her vaccs on top of that as its made her worse!

I am so mad! I went to two different doctors because I was convinced something was wrong and get fobbed off saying it was a cold then this happens!

Needless to say I've taken the rest of the week off uni and Lyla has been snuggled up with me all night and this morning. I've managed to get 3 3oz feeds into her since we got home and shes on regular calpol every 4 hours... poor thing. I feel so bad, I should have pushed them more when I knew it wasn't a cold!

xx

We are holding off weaning till 6 months Wilson, or as long as we can! Lyla sits in her highchair and plays with her bowls and spoons though  xx

The joyness of living in the uk xxxx

See Chloe that just goes to prove you must always trust your instinct.

Poor little Lyla, give her big hugs from us PF ladies.

Wished I'd never bothered with the Dr's today!! As usual we were kept waiting half an hour (we were a 9.30am appointment? How can you be running half hour behind this early in the day??)

I told him immediately James had previously had a reaction to Oliatum (an "aquis" cream) so what does the Dr tell me to do? Use an aquis cream on him and bath him in something aquis based.... :wall2:
He then agreed that I should just carry on with natural stuff (olive oil, coconut oil) and he prescribed some of the Aveeno bath stuff with Oatmeal.

Dr said the cream him up a few times a day and when I don't bath him dilute the bath stuff and massage that into his skin. We have an appointment for 2 weeks time and if his skin improves then I can cancel it. Dr didn't even look at anything other than his cradle cap?? He didn't check any of his body?

He also said he thought my finger nails are a fungal infection and told me to start a multi vitamin and come back for blood tests if it hasn't grown out in a few months. It's been there for months already and not grown out? So all in all a waste of time!

We then went shopping as OH has a relative due to have a little baby girl any day now... Girls stuff is so cute!! I had to stop myself going overboard.

Home now, nap time is all messed up as James must think it's a few hours later than it is?

xxxxxxxxxx

Is anyone holding out for 6 months weaning xx

Oh yes, I am not weaning James yet I am merely letting him have a little taste / play with a few things.

xxxxxx

By definition of weaning....

1. To accustom (the young of a mammal) to take nourishment other than by suckling.

By letting James have a taste of a few things would this not be considered weaning then? If you are going to the trouble of sterilising, putting your child in a high chair, mashing banana and feeding it to him I'd say you were or have I missed something? Absolutely nothing wrong with weaning him now!

Not sure how much nourishment he is getting from a few licks of a banana?? So I wouldn't consider it weaning at this stage.

I am looking at BLW and that begins by letting babies play with food (hold it, feel it, smell it, taste it) so that what I am doing at the moment.

For the time being I am just offering him something when he seems interested but in another month or so I may begin to wean one meal a day and make sure I do it each and every single day.

I am not at all against weaning now if I felt her was ready but I don't think he is. Weaning is such a gradual process I guess it's hard to say where it begins and ends?

Introducing foods and textures albeit slowly would be starting to wean then.

If you don't think he is ready then why are you giving him foods to taste? Isn't that what weaning is about? Introducing foods with the goal of then introducing meals?

I'm just interested in your approach that is all

I am just letting him take the lead. If he is awake he sits with us at the dinner table in his highchair, if there is something suitable we'll let him hold it (pasta twirls, green beans and spaghetti strands are the things we've let him have a play with so far)

Banana and natural yoghurt are the only other things I've given him, again only sporadically and only when he has shown interest. Also it's just been a taster, not a significant amount.

At a later date I'll make it part of our routine for him to have one "meal" a day - prob breakfast. For the time being I am just seeing how it goes.
