I felt pretty awful this morning, and having had a headache for a few days, and pretty bad swelling in my feet I decided to drop into my GP to ask them to check my blood pressure just to reassure me.
The lady on reception (who was late back from her break by a good ten minutes) swiftly informed me that the GP surgery was closed and there was no one available to see me. We explained I didn't want a lot of their time or a full on check up, just a BP check to put my mind at rest.
I also could see nurses/doctors/midwives moving around.
She again insisted that there was no one to see me - until my Mum told her we would just go up to A&E to get checked out.
Then all of a sudden the midwife could see me.

Everything with baby/me is absolutely fine, she even listened to his heart beat and done a full antenatal check, which, although I still have this headache, let me know baby was okay.

Just thought it was awfully convenient she managed to materialise a trained health care professional to help me out when we said going up to hospital wasn't an issue!

Thanks ladies! I would still like to get rid of this cold before I go into labour, but in any case I am much less stressed now!

Glad everything ok nonabean! Always nice to get the reassurance.

So I think things are actually starting off now...definitely lost my plug overnight (yuck!) and have had a few pains before bed and through the night. Just hoping they are the real thing and not braxton hicks! How can I tell the difference?? I haven't experienced bh before. Pains aren't bad but belly is going tight at the top and I'm getting bad period type pains low down. I wouldn't say they are painful but quite uncomfortable. I'm able to sleep through so not sure how regular they are yet... Fingers crossed! Maybe baby doesn't like the sound of the acupuncture I'm supposed to be getting in the morning! X

Morning ladies. Shall try and keep you as updated as much as I can once my inductiom gets going. More nervous about staying kn my own in hospital overnight more than anything. I think working in a hospital for the last 5 years is going to make me am awful patient!!!!

Nik - how exciting! My understanding is that everyone feels BH & contractions differently they key is
BH will go when you change what you are doing - contractions don't. So if you are getting them in bed at night then get up and move about and thry stop dead - BH.
Also real contractions will become regular both in timing and increase in intensity. Do you have a contraction timer app?
Contractions for me felt just like IBS cramps but I didn't recognise my "sensations" were contractions for a good 10 hours.
Some people will say " you just KNOW" But I didn't!

Thanks spin sugar. I'm currently using the lap timer on my phone. Still lying in bed so I guess I get up and see if they carry on! I expected a lot more pain which is why I'm not quite sure!

I feel so much better after a decent sleep!

Looks like exciting things are happening today. Couple of babies on the move I hope! Good luck girls, try to keep us updated on how things go. If I can't meet my monster yet I can at least get excited about everyone else's lol!

Got midwife today at 10. She's going to give me a sweep and will hopefully be able to tell me if I'm favourable or whatnot so I'm feeling positive at the moment. Might all change if she gives me bad news lol.

Looks like we are in business! Still getting regular contractions, getting a 3-4 min break in between and lasting 40-70 secs each. Rang triage who said to give it another hour and ring back as they would likely send me home again if I went in now. Pain is still low and manageable. Hopefully will be starting labour thread soon although I don't want to jinx it! X

Oo oh nicknaknoo. Good luck. Was it you that said you were 3-4cm dilated at your last midwive appt? If it was I leave for hospital when the contractions are regular and strong?

Yep Tiggy I was 4cm on Monday. Things still going, not quite as regular, sometimes every 2 mins but have had a gap as long as 6 mins. Just been for a short walk and took a break from timing. Clock watching isn't the most fun thing to do. X
