****July 2018 Mummies - Tri 2****

Morning everyone. Dd has a sickness bug :wall: It never ends! She's currently finally getting sleep in my bed. Fx I don't catch it off her :/ That will be my weekend sorted.

God knows what you do when you have two children and one gets a bug because she just clings to me when shes sick

KHTW one more day for you ! Xx

Oh bless her. Really hope it passes quickly and you don't come down with it too.

Morning everyone. I'm off to the pub for breakfast service. Not something we normally offer but it's a bore weekend so people flood to us to see the river from our beer garden. So bloody cold out as well, it's probably going to take me 10 minutes just de icing the car, lol.

Me too honestly. Do you deliver to Dundee lol xx

I have a gro egg and still use it in DDs room now, loved it for reassurance. I swaddled DD to and used sleeping bags from 4 months. she didn't get a pillow until 1.5 and a duvet at 2.

muslins just go over your shoulder when burping baby; they'd not usually scratchy though mine are lovely and soft, I did use mine. even now I use them as cloths in DDs baths

oh no shanivy what a nightmare! I hope it passes quickly

Good luck with breakfast GG

Laura I read on mothercare website that baby's don't need a duvet or pillow because they will get too hot. You should use a fitted sheet or blanket to keep them warm. I'm petrified of baby sleeping and getting too hot or suffocating under a blanket. I might use a baby sleeping bag or swaddle thing because it's my biggest fear!

Also for baby baths I'm buying a white changing table with the bath inside it. With my disk I just can't bend down all the time for nappies or bathing. Mine was a lifesaver last time too. I know some people say they're a waste but not for me. And I'm buying one of those flower shaped things you put inside the sink for baby to sit in and be bathed. Just cause I love it haha xx

Shan, this was the most pointless thing we got!! like honestly, so much hassle to empty water etc. I found it easier to bath DD on dining room table!!!! But I guess it was ok for changing, until she started rolling of course, so not lasted long at all x

Laura I think you are doing great with all the shopping. I know what I am about to say next may not be to helpful but it is true... Be prepared that some of the things you buy (maybe even a lot) will not work for your baby. Babies are awkward creatures. Be ready for the possibility that you may never use some of the things or that you will have to buy slightly different kinds of things.

DD hated TT bottles, her bath, she disliked her swing and bouncy chair, was not a major fan of sleeping bags (unless they had 2 legs)... honestly! A lot of research went into these purchases!!

So basically don't overthink things... they will either work for your baby or not. If they do - awesome! If they don't - you'll buy something else... either way no worth stressing about xx

See ladies I told you!! Haha.

Mine came with the bath for dd and a friend gave me it. The high changing table was a must for me for my back problems though. And with Ivy we had a one bed, so didn't have a nursery for a proper nursery furniture set etc. But yeah most people hate them lol xx

Wow my dd is so chilled out I love it aha. She just took to everything except normal formula.
With bathing I use a chair thing Idk what they're called.... Second bath onwards she loves it, just full up your bathtub put the chair km and can sit and watch her overly excited splashing the water around. She only has a bath once a week though because she get really bad dry skin which I don't want to turn to eczema, hubby has it really bad.
Oh also suggest getting in teethers mine started at 2 months we wasn't prepared aha.
I didn't like swaddling, she wasn't keen either she likes to flap her arms about crazy so sleeping bags were amazing. Need to get some in blue (why does no one buy you useful stuff, just pretty little outfits).

PB I'm glad someone else only bathes their baby once a week, my DD suffered with eczema (her dad has it really bad to) and people were mortified that I didn't bathe her every night. I was like "she's not doing exercise classes on a daily basis, she'll be fine without constant bathing". she's gets two or sometimes three a week now but that's because she loves glitter and painting with her whole body haha

I must have got lucky it didn't have to buy any sleeping bags my friends were great. even now one has already asked what she should buy for this baby and I've been like "it's really boring but a crib mattress would be great"

Yeah my friends/family are pretty good, always ask what you need rather than just buying stuff. They all have kids so I guess they know lol

We bath DD every second day. She has no problems with her skin but honestly I do nights by myself and simply don't have the energy to bath her every night! x

I was told about the glo eggs I think I'll get one, they're not too expensive on Amazon and eBay.

Did anyone use a swaddle sleeping bag at all (like a sleeping bag you can use from new born) I was looking at this one: https://www.mothercare.com/baby-sle...KyCh1tDQfWEAQYBSABEgL8Y_D_BwE&utm_content=PLA

TBH I feel like I have no clue at all, but I really don't want to use blankets haha.

I've been given this foam thing to go in the baby bath that baby can lay on and it keeps them in position (is that thing you mean Shan??)

Thanks for the idea about Asda sheets, looking on Mothercare they are SO expensive!!

Jem we had this bought for us for DD and I she looked uncomfortable in it. But she was born at nearly 10lbs so maybe that was why! We ended up using blankets for swaddling and it was amazing. Mind you, we are having summer babies and I would be worried that this kind of swaddle bag will be too hot for the baby x

And guess what, my lovely ear infection is BACK!!! But in the other ear. Got a feeling I will be suffering all through the pregnancy with this. Got doctors later to confirm and see what they can do.

Shan sorry to hear about Ivy and the sickness bug, hope you don't get it x

Ah okay thank you KHTW, I worry about Summer babies lol everyone I know has had winter babies.

I will have to look up how to swaddle a baby, hope it's easy lol! Do you just use one blanket for swaddling? and a long or short sleeved baby grow? x

I mean your baby could possibly love this thing and maybe you get one for summer that are more breathable?

We used a cellular blanket. We watched some videos on youtube first and then we practiced on DD :D Took us a few attempts but after that it was a 5sec job haha.

Short sleeve if with sleepsuit and if super warm then just a long sleeve body suit.

Thank you KHTW! I think I am going to save your words to reread daily- it is actually really helpful to hear that from someone who has experience of this hahahah I think as a first time parent if the baby was screeching and not taking the TT bottles Id immediately assume I must be doing something wrong or the same with a swing or bouncy chair etc now I need to keep in my mind that since its a little human being with little preferences then just to try something else!

Honestly I don't know what was wrong with my yesterday, I just panicked all day! We want this baby so badly and now the reality is that it doesn't feel real yet :( my 12 week scan showed a blob, I have no bump- just look chubby so that doesn't feel real yet- and July seems so far away yet I know will fly around really! I am looking forward to wed 7th for the gender scan as I feel like putting it in my mind as a little boy or little girl rather than a vague baby of some kind might help me get my head around this. Then I feel like Im already failing motherhood that I cant even visualise the idea of having a baby in my arms or what itll perhaps look like in the stuff im buying etc

Also the midwife at my 12 weeks talked to me about all this stuff about bonding with your bump from 12 weeks onwards...but I thought that was a little early? and although I'm protective enough of my stomach in terms of banging off things and when I am moving about I am aware of that feeling you have low down of there being a baby present I feel like a dick if I talk to it haha

my husband keeps hugging the baby and I feel weird haha like Ill walk past him sitting on the edge of the bed or something and hell grab me as I go by and talk to my uterus and im there like this is awkward and feels like he's talking to my vagina cuz its not normal for people to talk to your belly button hahaha
xx

Hahaha Laura, I'm gonna hazard a guess that this is all normal for first time mums because I feel exactly the same as you. Panicking and none of it feeling real yet. I hope after my 20 week scan things might feel different and when I can start feeling baby properly and actually look pregnant lol.

OH is the same as yours and always talking to my stomach and touching it and I just want him to get off me cos I feel I look fat and horrible and I don't want him touching my fat stomach lol x

Happy Friday everyone!

Aww GG, lovely pics! I'm guessing girl.

Jem you're not catching a break with these ear infections. Hope you feel better soon. Hope your wee one feels better too soon Shan.

Laura, I think you're doing well with the shopping! I've also had some days where I've felt overwhelmed by what needs to be bought and the fact I have no clue about most of it. Yesterday I was looking at baby monitors online for inspiration as I thought they'd be easy. Wrong! Some of them cost over £200! I was like WTF and quickly closed off Amazon haha.

I'm hoping antenatal classes might be helpful when they come round but I've also found a baby and maternity shop here that does workshop/class things at the weekend so might go to some of them if they seem interesting.

If my child takes after me in any way itll be a flailer! haha apparently I was a baby octopus with just arms and legs flinging about everywhere at all times haha my mum told me I was so active as a child, pulling myself up on everything in sight, trying to run before I could walk properly and had no fear of getting hurt just threw myself at and off things, climbing everything- we have a great home video of me about a year and a half old scaling the fridge and my mum freaking out trying to get me down haha my brother on the other hand slept constantly and actually passed the normal milestone of when they expected him to start walking and although could do it if you pressured him he wasn't interested, was happy sitting or sleeping haha mum used to have to go into his room at night and hold a mirror to his face to check he was still breathing cuz he just slept straight through from really early on while I had mastered how to escape from my cot haha x

People can be idiots- I mean just because you don't give her a fully scale body bath in a tub of water each night? If it is making her skin dry and causing problems then why would that be something people would do haha also its not as if you don't bathe her each night due to not being arsed or just pure neglect! If anything its the other way, youre being a good parent and actually looking after your child! xx
