****July 2018 Mummies - Tri 2****

Made an appointment with my GP about my ear, only available was 1pm today. There is no point in me going 30 mins home to see my GP and then back to work again. So assumed I'd just take the rest of the day off. My manager won't let me go and so is making me a see a GP here so that I don't miss any work ... nice.

How nice of them... what?! Hope GP can help x

Jem sounds like your in school.
Oh idc what people say about me bathing her only once a week, I'd rather her be a little dirty than have cracked bleeding skin. My health visitor actually told me to bath her once a week with no soap. I use PH balanced bath stuff (which is the only stuff I can use without getting thrush ughhh). I have had problems like that since I was 5 years old because of the soap my mom used soooll don't want her to suffer aswell.

Uh get to fuck. I'd have a look at that legal advice hun. I want to punch her xx

Jem, explain that to your GP. Tell the gp that you've been unable to rest and recover properly because you have been under so much pressure at work due to not having your work covered and that the perfect example of this is today, your manager dictating that you see a different, unfamiliar GP in order that you remain at work. It's made you feel extremely vulnerable and like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Don't hold back!

Yeah think I will mention it. My manager has made out it's so to save me driving all the way home ... but I think it's just so they can prove I'm not making it up!!

I'm not too impressed that a GP I work with can view my medical records if I'm honest - I don't trust this place at all

Jem if you aren't comfortable with a gp from work seeing you , don't be pressured into it. Tell them no thanks this is my place of work and I'd prefer to see my own gp. You're pregnant, you have a right to see a gp especially if these infections are related to pregnancy. Honestly what is wrong with that place?! Xx

I dunno, seriously it's hard work!!! I feel like I can't have a say (I'm so shit at standing up for myself and speaking up for myself, I just agree to everything - one of my worst traits) - but doesn't help when I'm pressured into things.

Bit worried as when I get registered temporarily on the system here, they can see ALL my medical records and there are stuff I'd rather my workplace didn't know if I'm honest. Such as mental health history and also last time I seen the GP I mentioned worries at work :/

Can they legally dictate which gp u see? That's crazy! X

I hope u stand up to them and say no tbh you don't feel comfortable seeing a gp and colleague. That's unreasonable for them to make u change gp practice even if it's temporary I'm so angry for u x

If it were me it would be a firm no fucking thanks then. I mean obviously your records can't be discussed etc but it would make me uncomfortable. And obviously is making you feel that way.

Don't forget; You aren't doing anything wrong to speak up for yourself. I'm sure when baby comes you'll do it easy enough for them hun, just say "Thanks for trying to save me the drive. But I'm fine with doing it, as I need to be seen and I'd rather see my trusted Gp" The one I'm actually registered with? Would your manager like to see her gp colleagues for her thrush? No probably not.

Or "thanks, but go fuck yourself, no thanks" :hugs: xx

Jem only the GP your seeing is allowed to look, isn't it illegal for receptionts to look at medical records for no valid reason? I thought so.

This place is just very dodgy haha. And the GP they have arranged for me to see is up there with my manager and they are very sneaky with what they do! I don't trust for one second that she won't report things back to my manager.

It's a small village GP surgery and I think they are very relaxed on the rules here..

Relaxed as in illegal.

If you don't want to go to that GP stand your ground and tell them you want to go to your own GP as they know your history and know how you've been suffering with ear infections up to now.

I'm not concerned about my colleagues looking. Just don't want my manager or this particular doctor to look. My manager didn't even give me a choice in with GP I wanted to see here ... I would have picked a different one as he is lovely and doesn't judge. But the one I've been given is out to get me anyway I swear!!!

Okay, just spoke to Dan who works for Care UK and has previously worked for the NHS. Get on the phone to your PALS team. Your medical records are private, you have a right to choose which doctor you see and at which practise. Patient confidentiality is a very serious thing and your manager should not be accessing your NHS medical records and doctor details without your prior consent. As has already been determined by your contract, it is a privately owned practise. It is not NHS and so only has access to NHS records by way of agreement. Accessing a patient's file without reason is not allowed, end of. You have an ear infection, that is no reason to access your file. If you dropped to the floor unconscious, they would have a mitigating reason for accessing your records in order to provide the best emergency care.
This wasn't an emergency. Call PALS and tell them you feel that your privacy has been violated and that just because you work at a doctor's surgery, you should have the same rights to privacy as everyone else.

As for seeing a local doctor, you are well within your rights to refuse. You are also within your rights to leave work if unfit to work.

Jem, take this further...I am furious on your behalf. If Dan looked up my records, he would be sacked for gross misconduct. Our of medical privacy is of supreme importance and your manager has, quite probably, broken the law.

Don't tell her that. Just contact PALS and take it from there but definitely lodge a formal complaint.

My manager hasn't, as far as I know, actually looked at my records. She is a bit thick and probs doesn't know how to haha.

But she didn't particularly give me a choice in being seen here, she just said no I'll get a GP here to see you save you going back home

Well I've seen her now and she was alright.

Definite ear infection, very inflamed and ear canal is sucked in or some shit. Been given antibiotics and an ear spray.

I asked her if she knew why I kept getting these infections and she said it is pregnancy hormones. So hallelujah for that!!!! A GP here, that employs me, has admitted it is pregnancy related. So the whole place can quite simply go fuck itself if I end up being off with it because even she has admitted it is pregnancy related :D
