Has anyone been told about Antenatal Classes or going to any?

I'm getting a bit pissed off that I've been given no info whatsoever and I would really like to go to Antenatal Classes. Realised I've got 14 and a half weeks left of this pregnancy which seems fucking scary and not much time at all!!! I really don't want to join one too late and I only thought about it because someone else mentioned to me that she went to Antenatal Classes and they were really helpful. My midwives have not said a word.

Anyone know when you're meant to go to them? Should I have booked in or at least have information about them yet?

Ooh girls you all sound like you're having a time of it with pain and what not. Poor Laura... Hope you can stop working? Get loads and loads of rest. There are lots of people who take co-codamol long term without too much problem, the only major side effect lots of people notice is constipation, so drinking plenty will help (and yes over hydration, drinking litres and litres can be dangerous because it can cause dangerously low salt levels and swelling in the brain but you'd have to literally drink a couple of buckets), so plenty of fruit and fibre as well!

Sorry for tmi but I have terrible constipation at the moment and literally dread going to the bathroom. I feel like I'm pushing out a baby each time and it's so so painful. Started myself on some laxatives but drinking lots and eating fruit doesn't seem to be helping me yet but the laxatives seem to have finally started working.

Don't know if some of you ladies can help with this but I'm also getting quite a bit of bump pain, especially round the bottom and the sides, I don't know if it's just with growing? I'm finding I'm rubbing my belly a lot cuz it feels quite uncomfortable.

And now I think I'm noticing little Braxton Hicks a couple of times a day. First thing in the morning when I roll over, I get an extreme tightening in my uterus where it feels solid as a rock for a minute or so. It doesn't hurt but feels super strange. Anyone else have that?

Yesterday night OH finally seemed to feel baby kick him in the face, when he literally had his face buried in my bump. I was so happy!

Preparing this week for a long flight to Australia on the weekend. Looking forward to a holiday but dreading the flight. Last time I wasn't pregnant but wrecked from flying for 24 hours! Can't imagine being sore, constipated, 6 month pregnant is going to make it more fun! Hopefully lots of sleep will be possible but usually I drug myself for long haul flights with an anti sickness, sleeping tablet and anti-histamine and just wake up at the destination! Ha! None of that this time.

I've been looking.... NCT sounds good but a bit expensive but I won't be able to go cuz with my shift work, I'll never have the same days off week to week. I'm going to go to 2 free classes done in my local hospital by the midwives... One is a birth preparation one (can only book after 30 weeks) and the other is a breastfeeding one (probably will go closer to the time). Hubby wants to find a parenting one (changing nappies etc) but I can't find one :(

Shep!!!!!! Do you realize that tomorrow you can move to Tri 3 (27 weeks) ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

OMG and a lot of us will be moving next week....! Having a mini freak out about it haha :D

Laura.. might be worth telling hubby that there's such a thing as too much water! It can actually be fatal...I can't remember the medical term lol.

It is called drowning I believe haha (sorry, couldn't stop myself) x

Pretty sure he is trying to drown me hahaha

nah i know you can hyperhydrate but its not THAT large quantities haha he's just being caring.

I can't believe some of you will be tri 3 soon. I swear my pregnancy is getting longer, each time I go to an appointment they put my dates back. I thought I was 23 weeks but then they gave me a new due date and Im back to like 21 weeks and a few days. ughh hahaha it will never end! xx

Jem, the hospital you go to may offer free classes? We went to 3 when pregnant with DD and they were pretty good. Maybe phone them and ask? x

Jane, sorry about the constipation, I suffer from it too and kind of gotten used to it... keep doing what you are doing if it starts to work. Can't offer much advise re sore bump, sounds like growing/stretching pains. So nice for OH to finally be able to feel the baby move! Re the flight... all I am going to say is enjoy it now with the baby being inside you, once they come out travelling becomes a nightmare lol x

My hospital do them, I am booked onto breast feeding and pain relief in June. Your midwife should have already told you about them.
I also do pregnancy yoga which is lovely, relaxing and gives you some you time! xx

I'll reply to other posts later but JemRose usually antenatal classes are offered at your 28 weeks appointment. Last time I had a labour one at 34 weeks, there was a breastfeeding one but I didn't go and two parent craft classes which were rubbish, not meaning to sound mean but the first one was aimed at really low income families telling people that they needed to save the fag money for nappies and the second one was about SIDS prevention and not shaking your baby. That's what was available in my area

No mention of antenatal classes here yet and not sure I'd bother anyway.

She said the parenting classes would be pointless for us as we've so much experience with babies anyway due to our 'advanced years lol

My god now the thread is moving!!

Jem I've been offered (and refused) antenatal classes. But ask your midwife as you've plenty of time, mine were quite late on in pregnancy. Also I have to agree with Shep mine were crap but everyone is different. There's no point me going with my 2nd and midwife was like fair enough okay lol. Enjoy your subway tomorrow haha cause now I'm going tomorrow too it's all I can think about now!! Xx

GG were we separated at birth seriously? Of all the stories you could have told l, that's gotta be the weirdest, monster trucks in Texas haha! I'm the same though especially with the asthma so much is ruled out. For my tonsillitis I just dose up on paracetamol or cocodamol and salt water to keep a fever away. *******s won't take them out these days  Xx

JaneyJan enjoy Australia and remember you can burn easily when you're pregnant. Flight sounds awful tbh but move around as much as you can and hopefully the jet lag isn't too bad? Constipation is the worst, have you tired prune juice. Also as much water as you can. Stool softeners or laxitives can take a few days to start working just make sure you're drinking water or it can actually make it worse. I'm away to start my iron tablets so I'll be in the exact same boat as you. Also I have the exact same bump pain. It sounds like just ligaments. Mine gets worse when I'm walking or wake up. Try a bump band and see if it helps. Enjoy your holiday not jealous at all haha!! xx

PB glad it's not a clot at least, is that the same lump you had before? Imagine going to subway and only having the salad the horror! Meatball marinara for me tomorrow you've put it in my head and it's not going away lol. I'm actually excited it's pathetic. Xx

It's all common sense to be honest.

My antenatal was a bunch of shit. When I was pregnant with dd it was a bad winter and where we lived was a little town about 45 mins away from Dundee and hospital. Everyone was asking what would happen if they needed an ambulance because the roads were too bad to get through to the hospital or labour was quicker than the "normal". She told us all to wise up and that 1st labours can take days and we'd be charged for unnecessarily calling one out. I swear.

Sure enough it was her who had to call one for me cause my labour was so quick I was almost pushing dd out in the house and the main road was closed.. Blue lighted there. I hated that woman honestly. I went to one class and skipped the rest. Xx

Haha, Shan...you're so right. Point blank refuse to remove them now!

PB, given how careful they have to be with clotting, they're obviously not very worried about it so hopefully that can be of some comfort for you.

Janey, I am very jealous of your holiday but definitely not the flight. Make sure the flight attendants know as they will prioritise you. Xx

My midwife has signed me up to antenatal classes but they don't start until week 28. She didn't say what any of them were about, just signed me up to the lot of them haha. I might see if I can find out what each is about and pick and choose which ones to go to.

Have a nice holiday, JaneyJan and good luck with the flight.

Jem, shans right. Youll just know what to do. I did forget to change dds nappy alot at the start, oops just didnt thibk about it. If your BFing id go to that one. Im considering going to it aha.
I didnt know that if you BF a girl they bleed down below becaus theu get your hormones passed on, had a panic pressing the buzzer for midwofe when i saw it lol.

I thought my scan today was for blood clot, but it wasnt, it was about my lump as they were worried !! I thought was check up for that but wasnt. The consultant is sending my results off... Brcause shes unsure as to what it is really. Ill go see gp i a couple months if ive herd nothing. Hopefully just a fat lump thing. Will deffo keep an eye on it though.

Ohh lovely jan. Have a nice time.

Shan what a stupid modwife. They should expect anything!!! Just because most women labour longer first time doesnt mean all will!! Ffs.

I don't know if it's just hormones today but I am seriously wanting to push everyone away from me. I am in a couple of groups on whatsapp for uni and normally I enjoy it and like the people in them but lately ive been feeling a disconnect and actually considering just leaving all the groups haha i dont know if im just being hormonal and silly and then would be sad I left xx

.

My God this gave me such a fright! I was sent home 18h after the birth so hadn't had any help or advice. When I saw the rusty colour in yhe nappy I panicked so much and called the hospital. They explained and made me feel really daft but I was like "who knows this?!"

My labour class was okay but I mainly just went for the hospital tour. And I agree with Shanivy it's really all common sense, even for 24yo me who had no baby experience. I didn't learn anything

Oh same, Why does nobody mention this can happen ever! I thought I'd hurt her changing her nappy or something.Xx

Probably hormones. Mine are a bit all over the place tbh. I couldn't be bothered today going to my MIL with dd then cried because OH was going to go take her without me. So cried because I didn't want to go but didn't want to stay. So stupid haha. I'd not leave if you can help it, you'll probably feel differently in a few days xx

Laura, don't leave, just pop in every now and then to say hi until you want to involve yourself more.

I am so glad you've mentioned that baby girls can bleed from our hormones. I read it and thought WTF??? I just told Dan and we both just looked at eachother like, "Whaaaaaat"

Honestly, never heard of it so thanks for the heads up xx

Ugh. Had a dream people broke into my house and couldn't go back to sleep. Trevor McDonald was reporting on it for ITV news outside using his iPhone instead of a camera crew. Hormones are weird.
