Happy I am 27 + 2 and finish work at 29 weeks - I have 3 weeks holiday before I start maternity leave. It is early but it is the right thing for me and baby as I have a long term health condition that is being closely monitored (and thankfully things seem to be ok) but I also commute into London and it will become too difficult the further along I get. My job is really busy and it took us 11-12 years to get pregnant so I know I am doing the right thing, just go with what you think is best for you and baby x

Hi ladies. Not been on here for a while so just catching up on everyone's news xxx I'm in the August edd as well my little girl is due the 17th August on my grandad n aunties birthday xxx

Would I be right in saying that you cant squish a baby? Ours is kicking when the Mrs lies on her right and fluttering when she leans forward when sitting up.

Is this the baby saying I don't like this, lie a different way?

Might be Alan but its well cushioned and won't b squished! Sometimes they push back as if to say 'give me more space' but at this stage they still have enough room to move around fully and find a better position. Don't worry :-)

Hiya! I'm over in tri 3 now hun so I will add your edd to the list on there if that's ok? Do u know what u r having or have u stayed team yellow?? Hope u r doing ok xx

Hi alanc. You're mrs isn't squishing baby don't worry, if I moan that I can't feel baby much my midwife tells me to lie on my side, must just encourage more movement due to increased blood flow. The best position to sleep is left side so it won't be hurting baby at all.

Mine flicks me when I lean forward a bit too, it's just the baby saying Oi I'm in here! Not harming it at all don't worry x

Thanks ladies, I kinda thought that was the case but just wanted to check. At what stage do you start monitoring movements and worrying if you don't feel anything for a while. Is that 28 weeks odds?

From what I've read yes it's around 28 weeks. I think there is a site called count the kicks, I keep meaning to read it!

I asked this at my last mw appt- she said around 24 weeks (but I have heard from 26!). If ever your wife is worried about reduced movements she can go into get monitored (although they only tend to listen in with a Doppler until 27 weeks I think!) Xxx

Meant to say there r things u can try to get baby to move if worried too- like lying down, eat something sugary, cold drink, have gentle poke of your belly etc xxx

We think the cold drink thing tends to work. There has been gaps of hours so far but no longer I don't think. Thanks for the other tips mum2b. :)

So I've done it ladies, rang my manager & told her I'm on the sick for 4 weeks. Didn't say I was planning on starting maternity straight after, just said we were thinking about going on maternity earlier than first arranged & that I'd put it in writing if we decided. But I'll put the letter in with my sick note when I send it in tomoro.
Such a relief now...!

Good morning everyone, hope all is well.

Happy I am glad you managed to speak to work and can take it easy for the next month :)

Re fetal movements I would worry any time if not feeling baby after trying all the things mum2b suggested, I would throw in ice too. The 28 weeks or so is mostly because that's the time the placenta and growth can slow down and cause issues so more a suggestion of things starting to go wrong, additionally, it is from 28 weeks that they use the CTG machine so they can record it on a trace making it more official if you like it :p however I would get checked at any point in pregnancy if worried with reduced movements :) also I would not rely on dopplers for reassurance at this stage either if baby hasn't been moving, as you need trained ears to pick up all is ok with heart beat.

Sorry about the lecture, can't help it as I really think the one single most important thing we can do to keep our babies safe is to monitor movements :) right have snapped out of my midwife mode now sorry!

Kids at school yay, now working through my research project, lots of work BUT looking forward to going away on hols at the end of the week with the family.

Have a lovely day everyone xxxxx

Thanks mummy_midwife, we stopped using the doppler when the movement started. So basically from now, monitor movement and if it goes too long without try and make it move and if still nothing get it checked out straight away.

Wife spoke to midwife today about fainting, she was on the phone for a while, midwife says it's fine to leave till Thursday, just keep an eye on it.

Thanks mummy_midwife- its great when someone explains things properly! Usually u get told things but not the logic behind it! Def helps me so thank u!

Happy- well done hun!! Get your letter done and sent and start focusing on u and your family :-)

Yes, I would say get checked out straight away if no luck with trying to get baby to move... Most of the sad cases we see started with reduced movements but nothing or little was done. Much rather go to get checked 10 times a week if you need than do nothing :)

You're welcome hun, tell me to stop if I get annoying lol xxx
