The New IVF/IUI Thread - 5BFPs!

shocking Jacq - thanks for posting the link.. Now if you are not on here for a few weeks, Ill know that youve commited a petty crime to get yourself a room in full board hotel (oh I mean prison), your having more ivf all paid for, got a uni degree all paid for, and retrained for a carear change, and are suing for damages for lost time with your hubby...

That does seem loopy although being the daily mail I wonder what the other 90% of the story is...

I think it's time I checked back into here. I've got my co ordination appointment for my 3rd cycle tomorrow morning.

As there's a few new names my history is:

TTC 2 1/2 years (on sunday so almost exactly), I seem to be fine but hubbie (porkpie) has a very low sperm count - between 0.4 & 0.6 million/ml.

Referred directly for ICSI. first cycle (fresh) in april 2012. 14 eggs, 12 mature, 7 embryos. All 7 went to blast. One was transferred and two were deemed suitable for freezing. BFN.

Second cycle (frozen) in august 2012. Both embryos defrosted, one looked great the other less so but both transferred. BFN.

Took a five month break to get our heads round things. Had counselling and all the other stuff we thought we'd never need. Have come back stronger.

About to start 3rd cycle (fresh) taking part in a clinical trial of a different trigger hormone. Very aware this risks no mature eggs but keen to pass on the favour of those who did trials and allowed IVF to develop this far.

Starting 19th jan on short (antagonist) protocol EC around 31 jan, OTD around 16 feb

Anyone on similar dates?

Welcome back to the thread Scotchegg. I suspect your BFN's are just the roll of the dice not going in your favour. I think that's what IVF seems to be - luck :/

Sending you lots of luck on your 3rd cycle - hope all goes well, keep us updated xx

That's really good news. I only get one shot at it :-( think the postcode lottery is so unfair, & everyone should get the same goes throughout the country. Pleased for u though slimmingmeg that's great :-)

I completely agree, I only got one shot thanks to stupid postcode lottery.
I think everyone should be entitled to at least 2 because the first is almost like a trial to see what works and what doesnt for you, like for me they realised my embryos didn't grow well past day 3 and our outcome might have been different had one been put back then rather than waiting till day 5

Yes I think it is very unfair - having 1 free IVF cycle vs. 3 free IVF cycles makes a huge difference to your chances of conceiving. Really don't know how they work it out.

This is absolutely disgraceful! I can not believe what I have just read. they are in prison for a reason and lost their human rights when they committed the crime! Letting them breed is just going to be more drain on our economy and who is paying for it, us! They won't even be able to bring the child up if they are both behind bars! Ggggrrr makes me so mad! I'm not going to rant about it (any more than I have lol) as its wasting my energy and there is not enough room on here anyway lol. Xx

Tinks I totally agree, and I hesitated about putting this as I feel very strongly about it and didn't want to upset anyone, but I think people locked up for serious crimes should be sterilised on entry into prison so they cannot breed. And given it was around the time of my very expensive BFN then I feel even more angry about it. Grrrrrrrr indeed!

Had my appt with hosp today, lining nice and thin so start menopur injections on Monday.

They have put me on 75iu (cancelled on 150 and 100), last time I was allowed to start on a Tuesday after my scan so I only did 5 injections before was cancelled for 5 follicles. Tempted to do the same this time and start on the tuesday so I have a day less than supposed to have.

Just can't bear the thought of being cancelled again, thinking a day less on the lower dose might do the trick and just not say anything? Figure it can't do me any harm, might just mean I have to wait a day longer at other end, would rather do that than be cancelled. Any thoughts?

Also discussed the possibility of if this cycle is cancelled waiting till we reach top of ivf list (she says appt for me would likely be June) and skipping our cycles of IUI. Would mean we would only have our two IVF cycles tho. Hopefully won't need to make that decision, but nice to know got options.

I have no experience of it hun so I don't know myself, but just wanted to wish you the best of luck xx

Hi skeando, glad the roll is rolling again with your IUI, I have everything crossed that they don't cancel it again. Are you going over to the nuffield for appts? My mum (who works in the royal) says the ACS at the royal is likely to be closed until the end of the year! Been thinking about you.

The royal only offer 2 free IVF cycles anyway, used to be 3 but they reduced it last year (so annoying!!). Good luck with it huni xxxxxxxx

Still going to the royal for appointments but will be the nuffield for the actual iui, need to work out where exactly it is. Think its out hyndland somewhere. Will worry about that if we get that far

Hope everyone is ok, The whole process is pretty stressful, and we know that's not good for us! It's easier to tell yourself to be calm and stress-free, but difficult in practice (I should know). I managed to get lucky and use the services provided by My IVF alternative. You end up going to a hospital in Czech and having your treatment there, even if it;s a different country, you can still relax and feel as if you're on holiday. There's a website called My IVF Alternative with loads of answers for you.

Hi all,

me & hubby should be starting IUI on Monday but have had to cancel due to work commitments. we haven't rebooked yet but have been given an appointment for 4th July to start our free ivf go. so although I'm a bit disappointed I'm also pleased something good come out of the phonecall. we still have IUI between now & then. Jan please can I be updated on the 1st page :-) Xx

Great news about the free IVF Tinks and you didn't have to commit a crime to get entitlement - even better news! ;) x

Great news Tinks :-)
I don't get free IVF as husband has a child with a previous partner, why that should effect me is so unfair. Had a few shouts and tears with my GP but ultimately I have to find the 5k to do it. I think that is why I am more inclined to go through Spain with egg donation, massively increases my chances

Hey girls hope ur all having a nice weekend. I'm feeling a bit low today as the witch made her appearance yesterday. I'm now thinking to myself "why did I cancel that IUI appointment !" I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I wish I had put me 1st instead of giving into work commitments. ill be ok in a couple of days and its just how life goes sometimes isn't it! Me & hubby have a week off over Easter, so I'm thinking maybe we can book in then to have our appointments, then we would be relaxed & free from work too so wouldn't be so stressful. thought it would also be good to give my body a couple of months natural chance and if if it did fail its not long to wait after until our ivf. aahh feel more positive now I've written this :-) Xx

Good to hear you talked yourself into being more positive!

I managed to get my GP to give me Metformin yesterday but sadly no more Clomid. Also my follow-up consultation letter came through and we have an appointment on February 11th so I'm just going to take the relaxed approach for a while.
