The New IVF/IUI Thread - 5BFPs!

Happy new year everyone! We tested....BFN. Gutted but not really surprised. Will test again thurs but I'm not expecting any change. Looks like 2013 will be a year to get my life back before going into our adoption plans. Someway I will be a mummy in the future, just not the conventional way. I wish you all they very best and I will check in every now and then to see how you're all getting on xx

Jenny we will be going down the adoption route if frozen cycle fails. So we can support each other. Fingers crossed u have a shy bean and thurs u will get your bfp x

Jenny I'm so sorry honey, I was really hoping you'd get a BFP for us ladies to show there is some stuff right in this world. I drove myself mad reading about women who got negatives before OTD then positives on OTD but I don't want to get your hopes up. Give yourself time to process it and cry as much as you need. So so sorry honey xxx

Thanks guys. I feel more positive about things this morning. I have an amazing hubby and I know that if its just us life will still be great. And I feel excited about the adoption route too. We just need a bit of time to grieve for what we won't have, and how I will not experience the chance to be pregnant. But I know we will get there.

Greek I hope you're FET goes well, but if you decide to go adoption route it will be great to have an adoption buddy to help ourselves through the process xx

Thanks Jacq, not really holding out for a shy BFP but you never know. We all know what a roller coaster this ICSI is so you can never fully count it out! xx

Oh JennyMarie - I'm so sorry about your result , I'm truely gutted for you XX

Take this week to just process this and get through the week as best you can esp with work later in week.

I wish you all the best with your gap year with your hubby, and then your exciting adoption process - there have been some lovely changes to the rules recently - saw on the news the other day, it's being geared up to help new parents more and make it much easier...

Is there an adoption section on here yet? hmmm maybee we need one, so we can keep up with how your doing.. and you guys can chat

Do let us all know how you get on with this new journey, we need to see you out the other end too, you will make one amazing mummy X

Thanks JJ. I will keep you all updated with how it goes and will keep checking I to see how you're all getting on. Hope everything works out for you xx

I know what u mean about grieving about the inability to be pregnant etc as I feel the same. I feel the Fet will be the end of this journey and the door closing on this heartache. So anytime u need to chat let me know.
Would be nice to go through the adoption journey together. Having someone to share process with.
Lets hope 2013 brings us all closer to our little ones x

Hi girls, happy new year to u all.
Well January is here & our IUI is fast approaching. Our appointment with the consultant is 14th of Jan and I am getting cold feet, so any help & advice as to what to expect would be much appreciated. I think the reason I'm getting cold feet is because I can't quite believe I am here and its all a little scary . xx

Happy new year to all you lovely ladies...!!! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, I had a perfect day, I got engaged!! woohoo!! I finally have something to take my mind off ttc for a while.

I've not been online much as I have really been anxious and just terrified of iui and I'm not too sure how I feel about it. Its just so intense and I feel a little pressured as its all on me now, I feel like its 100% my fault if it fails.

Anyway, back to iui talk. I'm cd 3, so I've had my second gonal f injection today. I'm petrified of needles and I literally runaway from oh when he is about to inject me..!! I think my nurse said I will have a scan around cd 10 or 11 so I am looking forward to seeing how my body reacts to gonal f.

Does anyone know if cervical mucus can prevent sperm getting through your cervix? its just because I've noticed for a while now mine is thick but a day or two after ov its ewcm.

How is everyone getting on? xxx

Hi Tillie, good luck with IUI, we need someone to get a BFP round here.

As far as I understand cervical mucus is designed to help sperm and when it is thick and stretchy it helps sperm swim up through it towards the egg.

DH and I are back to plan A and DTD every other day though only started on CD12 so just did CD12 and 14, CD15 today and may go again just as we've had a bit of a drought during IVF ha ha! Well DH is not complaining!

One of my friends is off to the doc today to discuss fertility. She has PCOS like me and had her implant out just over a month ago and no AF. I told her she could be in for a long wait and lots of fobbing off. Most GPs tell you to be trying for at least a year despite PCOS. I did suggest she could get a private consultation to speed things up and maybe get Clomid as she already has Metformin. Oh well at least I have lots of knowledge and experience to share with her!

Tillie, sending you lots of luck with the IUI and hope things look good for your first scan. I was meant to start again this month when AF arrives but hubby wants us to put it off till next month now :(
And yes, CM can stop sperm getting through its actually what I suspect is causing us problems (along with hubby's low count) although I have Cystic fibrosis and its quite common fertility problem for us woma with CF no sure of it affects other woman but I don't see why it couldn't. IUI is a great help in these cases

Tinks its totally natural to be getting cold feet but I think this is gonna be great for you. It's less invasive than ivf. My understanding of how it goes is this (might be different in different hospitals mind).

You start off sniffing (cant remember what its called) this is to switch off your natural cycle so the docs can take control. Think you do this about 4 times a day for about 2 weeks (think time varies).

You then get a few scans to check how your follicles are coming along and when they see fit they give you injections to boost your eggs (gonal f usually) then when your eggs are ripe they get your hubby to make a deposit and then inseminate you with his swimmers. Then you have a normal 2ww and will get a blood test from.the hospital on official testing day.

This info is mainly from my bump buddy laurat who went through iui at the same hosp as me and as you know she got her bfp on the 1st attempt (amazing and still so chuffed for her). I may have missed out a stage or got some details wrong but thats my general understanding of it.

Any other ladies that can advise tinks on what to expect?

Happy New Year to you all!!!

Tinks, good news on your IUI coming up. Thats what I had so I do know a bit about it. If you want to ask me anything in particulare feel free to PM me.

I started with sniffing to shut down my cycle ( which was a joke as I didnt have one). Then after about 2 weeks I went in and started injections of menopur which I think was for about 7 or 8 days. I had scans to check my follicle growth, when I had 2 at 17 mm I had to take a trigger shot and the next day I was in for the actual insemination. Hubby was in the morning of the insemination to givd his 'deposit'. I needed a few appointments off for the scans and an afternoon off for the actual insemination but it wasnt too much. I found thd injections etc really ok.!

I always seem so shocked you had to DR Laura, I've never heard of other people having to do this for IUI and I know my clinic dont bother either. It's just straight in for a scan on day 2 or 3 and then stims till needed which can be either/or both clomid & gonal F and regular scan to check follicle growth with trigger shot when ready

I just thought it was silly as I didnt have a blooming cycle to shut down anyway. Hadnt ovulated or had an af in 19 months! Reckon it must be one of those hospital protocal things that they make you do it. Either that or they werent ready for me to start the injecting and stuff so thought it would keep me occupied (LOL). One thing for sure is all places and authorities do stuff in slightly diferent ways.
