The New IVF/IUI Thread - 5BFPs!

Does anyone know how common it is for the clinic to cancel your iui cycle I.e for being over stimulated and why does this happen? Does it mean your not suitable for treatment? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head round it all & prepare myself as much as I can. Xx

Over stimulation can happen for people as the injections or drugs make you produce too many follicles. Each place can be different but my hospital would cancel if you had more than 2 follicle over 17. I had 2 and a third at 14 so they said I had to do the trigger then or it would have been a cancellation due to over stimulation. The scans will track this and if you do get over stimulated they will lower the dose in the next cycle. It doesnt count as a cycle (in my area anyway) unless you get the trigger shot.

I have been cancellef twice so far, for too many follicles. Starting another cycle nect week so fingers crossed they get the dosage right this time

My first IUI cycle was cancelled as I had far too many follicles, I had clomid and then 2 injections of Gonal F that got me in that 'state'. My clinics limit was 3 lead follicles and I had 4 with another possible 2 that could have catheched up, so way too many plus there was even more but were smaller.
I also know others thats its happened to on the first and sometimes 2nd tries, its all about just altering the meds until they are right for you but this doesn't mean they cant get it right first time.

I'm starting again next month so hoping the change of plan with cutting out the clomid and doing just a low gonal F dose will give me no more than 2 large follicles.

Just to warn you if you are paying and it gets cancelled you wont have to pay the full fee but will have to still pay some. My clinic is £800 IUI cycle and £250 for a cancelled cycle.

Thanks tinkerbell I will check my paperwork out.as think I remember it saying how much u have to pay for canceled cycles. mine too is £800 for IUI. but £250 still quite a lot for a failed cycle isn't it, could be quite costly then. do u have to pay for ur drugs on top of that £250? Wishing u all the luck with ur next cycle fx they get it right for u this time.

Skeando hope 3rd time is lucky for u!

This thread is due some more BFP's & feel 2013 is going to be the year! 13 is my hubbys lucky number so here's hoping :-)

Q: do you still have to pay if it's cancelled? Assuming it's not an NHS cycle.

It is, if we have 2 failed cycles that's £500 alone and yes drugs are on top of that unfortunately.

You pay a certain amount, for IUI at my clinic it's £800 or £250 if it gets cancelled.

Thanks for the info Tink, just trying to establish these things beforehand so we're not utterly shocked by the bill! :/

Well, I think we need a good cheering up in this thread, so I'd like to share with you all my very stupid dream last night. I dreamt that my best friend got pregnant (she got married a year after we did) but also my mother announced that she was pregnant as well in my dream, despite the fact that she went through menopause and finished her periods about 5 years ago, and my dad's had a vasectomy. And I was shouting at her in the dream saying 'Mum why do you need another baby now!? You're 57!'

All of this ttc business is literally making me crackers!

Hi ladies hope you're all doing well. I called the clinic today to let them know the outcome of our ICSI cycle and they're going to send an appointment for a follow up consultation which I think will be helpful to discuss our options.

In the meantime we've been continuing with Plan A and have DTD CD12,14,16,18. TMI alert ...CD19 today and am not sure if the CM is EWCM or some of DH's 'stuff'. Thoughts?! Should we go again tonight?!!

Hi Jacq - I'd so go for it! Better to be safe than sorry, I figure dtd as much as physically possible!

Glad you've got a follow up appointment sorted :)

Well I've discovered some good news today - apparently couples in my county can get up to 3 IVF cycles on the NHS.

That's really good news. I only get one shot at it :-( think the postcode lottery is so unfair, & everyone should get the same goes throughout the country. Pleased for u though slimmingmeg that's great :-)

Great news Meg. Did anyone see the news about how prisoners are going to get free IVF. Now THAT is unfair! Grrrrrr!

Skenado and Tinks good luck to you - oh and I agree with Tinker, check prices if canceled, just so your warned. I paid £750 for a blastocyst to be frozen, (set charge even tho only one...), and then paid another £700 for a Frozen embie transfer , only had one scan, and a phone call, and then only for it to be canceled on day of transfer because my embie didn't survive the thaw, and I still had to pay the lot as it's my risk...

Jacq - prisoners - free ivf!!! shocking... surely they have given up their rights until they are released.. hang on do they get hubbys visiting and depositing a sample on EC day...?

anyone see the ivf fertility programme on ch4 at 9pm tonight? I only caught half of it, but it still made me well up to see couples get their bfns.... felt right back there - wouldn't recomend for bfn ladies..

It was so sad to watch wasn't it Jj. Shows the intensity of the process .
