Happy 5 months to James!!!

I can't believe we're here already??? Time really has flown by.

He has made it so easy, he is a wee Angel.

Thanks L_a, I suspected as much!

Why would a bloody Dr tell me to do that???

I'll keep the bath oil for bath days and carry on using the cream. They didn't have the intensive one in stock but I'll keep an eye out for it. Just using the normal Oatmeal one for the time being.
He may be right. I can't find an ingredient list online and even if I did I wouldn't necessarily know from that whether it can be left on. There are some postings online about people leaving it on and getting good results. But it would bother me that the manufacturers instructions clearly say to rinse. If you get the opportunity, I would ask him why he said that.

comfort milks all tend to be thicker to keep babies fuller longer and stop reflux and things like that but she wont even take a suck of the bottle so it's more to do with her not wanting it than what milk :(
Comfort milk is slightly thicker which is why they suggest it for reflux and as Kerrie says needs a thicker teat. But they are easier to digest, which is the opposite of hungry baby milks, so actually they don't last as long. They're easier to digest because of the low lactose, which is why they help with colicky babies.

I don't think it's the answer to your problem though, unless you think lyla is refusing milk due to colic or reflux.

I haven't followed how long this has been going on for. I know lyla is poorly at the moment, is it just while she's poorly? If so, as long as she's not dehydrated I wouldn't worry about intake. Nobody feels like eating much when they're poorly.

I like the Hipp milk.

hope lyla feels better soon xxx

Hi sazz nice to see you  sorry you're having a hard time, hope the leap passes soon.

Wilson, your camper looks great, must be nice to be bake to get away when you like. The weather looks lovely today so I hope you enjoy it.

Happy 5 month birthday to James!

Yesterdays visit to the ILs went very well, even though J was a bit grouchy late afternoon. He settled well in his pushchair laid flat and slept for a few hours for us in the evening so we could stray and have Chinese takeaway. Cleared the air with MIL and had productive chat, so all good.

Today we have a good friend coming for Sunday lunch.

Hey all thanks for your suggestions. It's not the teats unfortunately because Lyla has been taking milk like this since she was 10 weeks. I've tried syringe feeding but again she just spat out what got in poor thing. Yesterday she took a total of 16oz of milk and I managed 5oz of dioralyte on advise of my HV because she hasn't been getting enough salts etc.

After 2oz of milk when she does seem hungry she screams in pain poor thing. I was reading up that after a bout of gastroenteritis babies can develop a form of secondary lactose intolerance which lasts 3-4 weeks while their bodies are sorting out being able to digest lactose again and I think this is our problem and explains the sicking after each feed and diarrhoea..

She has been off her food for close to 3 weeks now and this morning she took 5oz with only a little cry in between which I think was more linked to gas, got a burp and she took the rest. I am hoping it is easing off now poor thing. Makes me feel so bad having fed her while she was obviously in pain from the lactose.

If this continues though I am going to try her on a lactose free milk until she seems well in herself then slowly wean her back onto her normal formula. Unfortunately don't think Hipp do a lactose free milk? Going to get her to doctors this week again though, although they probably won't believe me seeing as Lyla only had a cold to nearly end up in hospital that night because they said it was safe to give her vaccinations.

Yay to 5 months Nat! My HV was on the phone yesterday and said babies are meant to be weaned at 24 weeks rather than the 6 month mark and it is just said 6 months because people usually count a month as 4 weeks and not 4.5.. Are you going to wean at 24 weeks or the official 6 month mark?

Lyla was 19 weeks yesterday! Times going so fast!

Glad you have figured out what is up with Lyla hun, hopefully this is the start of her getting back to her proper milk intake?

I recall that she was weighed recently and is still following her line though? Which is excellent.

I didn't know that about 24 / 6 months? I don't even know how many weeks James is now LOL - 22 on Wed's I think??

We'll play it by ear, if he is looking ready to wean in a few weeks we'll start then if not we'll wait.

I plan to initially just start baby porridge every morning anyway.

At the moment we are just doing a few little tasters here and there.

Yep, Lyla was 15lbs 10oz on Wednesday and still following 75th centile so at least her weight hasn't been affected

We were ready to start weaning Lyla but since her milk intake has suffered from being ill we are going to wait until she's taking enough milk again. Probably wait till 6 months now ourselves seeing as we will be in uni until then.

Here's a few piccies of Lyla's latest trick! She will sit like this for as long as I leave her by herself just balancing with her hands on the floor. Without hands its a few seconds

Clever Lyla!

James' big head weighs him down so he cannot sit up at all unaided (even with pillows his head weighs him down LOL)

I am in no hurry to wean, I know it sounds lazy but I am not willing to create extra work for myself.

Every time I give him a taster now I have to get out [and clean] either the Bumbo or the highchair, then I need to put a sheet down, if I am pureeing I need to sterlise a few bits... then I have to do the same all over again when I am done!

It's not worth it just so James can have a lick of a banana LOL

I know I could just give him the banana but seriously even if he just plays with it, it goes everywhere!! So you need the sheets and bub must be sitting upright as to not choke so he needs to be in chair or bumbo.

I do love having him with us at dinner though!

Chloe, Hipp don't do a lactose free and I don't think you can buy fully lactose free from the normal outlets (not sure if they are prescription only or just not readily available). Aptamil comfort is low lactose though and that might be enough to get you through this period. C&G also do a comfort milk which is supposed to be exactly the same, but I've heard mummies say their LOs didn't take to this as well. As Kerrie mentioned, the comfort milk is quite thick so you might need to change teats. You might get away with it, as I imagine you're on stage 2 teats now and it was the stage1s we couldn't use with the comfort.

Thanks L_A I think I actually have an unopened tub of aptamil comfort from when Lyla was on Aptamil and had colic. Might give it a try! Yeah we are on stage 2 xx

Happy 5 months James!

I hope Lyla starts taking her milk properly soon - poor wee thing! Clever her though sitting up like that! Aela will sit unaided for a couple of seconds and then fall sideways.

L_A - Glad to hear things are all sorted with MIL! I don't know what problems you were having but it's always better to get them out in the open instead of people bottling them up and the problems becoming bigger and bigger!

Well spring has finally sprung but not in the nice way! We've had heavy showers here all day! I wouldn't mind so much as we needed it - Mull was the driest place in the UK in March! But it has been accompanied by v. gusty winds so it was a nightmare taking the pram to the shop there! I find my pram v. difficult to push in the wind, think it's because it's a 3-wheeler and it feels like the has more control of it that me!

Aela is being a pain in the bum at bedtimes - it's annoying because she was in a fairly good routine, but the last couple of nights she will initially go down in her cot but then when she wakes for a feed that is her awake and she's not gone back to sleep until we've put her in her pushchair. OH was walking the streets at 1am trying to get her back to sleep 2 nights ago and last night we put her in her snowsuit in her pram with the window open as it was too horrible to go out in. It sounds kinda like leap behaviour, but during the day it seems like she has just come out of her leap - we are all smiles all the time now! So I've no idea what is going on...I think we might just have to accept she is a rubbish sleeper and nothing we do is going to change that!

On the plus side, I spoke to OH the other day about how little sleep I was getting...I don't think he actually realised as he was quite often sleeping through A's awake times! He has taken her the last 3 or 4 nights after she's fed and let me get some proper undisturbed sleep for a few hours. Starting to feel a LOT better for it as everything was starting to get a bit on top of me.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend, hopefully the weather is a bit nicer where you all are!xxx

I think we have been very lucky and I didnt really notice the last leap. I did notice the sleep regression but also luckily it lasted only 5 days. She was waking about 4am and only settling back after a feed. Cant grumble though cos she has slept through 13 hours since 9 weeks. All back to normal now though.

Clever clever lyla! Chloe I hope you get the feeding sorted. I know you said you didnt want to wean due to lyla not taking milk but maybe it could be a good way to get some milk into her? Ive made puree's for livvi and used her own milk to blend them down and so it has a little familiar taste. I can see why you wouldnt want to try yet though. Just a thought

Nat Im sure webare gonna have a lot more messier times than the initial start of weaning lol. Best get used to it. I have to strip livvi ofd cos she gets it everywhere and she only has 2 ice cubes sized pieces lol

Are you all sterilising their feeding bits then? Like spoons, bowls etc? I know they tell you too but we dont sterilise the pan we cook the food in and the blender? I think im quite happy not to do it for O a good wash and maybe a weekly sterilise? I dont sterilise her toys when they have been on my living room carpet lol and they go straight into her mouth. Saves time too.

Talking of weaning O loves it!! She's had apple, sweet potato, carrot and baby rice up to yet. I cant fill her :-)

Hello ladies hope we are all well! I just read through and there's so much I want to say to you all but bloody Tapatalk is hell for catching up (I know I say it all the time lol).

Chloe I hope the comfort milk works for you, C only took 21oz yesterday compared to her usual 30+ and I was worried so I can't imagine what it would be like to have that going on all the time :( hugs.

Missyeovil I'm glad you are getting some extra sleep. I did everything for C for the first four weeks or so and it nearly broke me so I can't imagine doing it for four months! OH and I alternate nights now thank God (but its still tiring as she is up once or twice a night now). Hopefully Aela stops being a pickle and learns that night time is doer sleeping lol.

Kerrie we don't sterilise C's weaning stuff either. Too much like hard work! Haha. I just make sure everything is very very clean. We don't seem to have that much mess though? I just feed her in her wee chair with a bib on, she usually puts her fingers in her mouth while she has food in there then smears it all over her face but its nothing that a baby wipe and occasional outfit change won't solve. I'm glad O is enjoying her weaning :) we tried nectarine today and C loved it! Have done apple, pear, banana, carrot, nectarine, sweet potato and butternut squash now and everything has been a hit. I find making purées very satisfying lol how strange am I :)

Anywho I have a little madam today, not at all like her usual self. She is being a pig today too (about 25oz so far, two cubes of nectarine and a fruit pot). She is waking up now so I had best be off! Xx

Oh yeah, I know weaning is going to be messy as sin, I just meant that it seems a lot to go through when James isn't quite there yet???

He is however ready for his big boy part of the pram

OH is going to be the one to take him out in it for the first time though, they are going to visit Granny and Grandad for a few hours.

It sounds like you can't be bothered with the extra faff of purées Nat lol, definitely hold off til he's ready for BLW then? He looks so grown up in his big boy pram! Xx
