*****December Babies*****

A work friend had her baby last night and went from 3 cm to delivery in 31 minutes.
I want a quick labour but think that's a touch too fast!

Wow that's fast! Was it her first?

Newbie yet for you baby shower, can't wait to see what pressies you get! Can't believe your mum won't be there though!!

Dysco it's just what she's like!!! When I was 14 I got hit by a car and blue lighted to hospital and she didn't even come with me! She's my mum so obviously I love her but I cannot spend more than 30 mins with her lol x

Aww Newbie so sorry your mum isn't going to be there :( I hope you have a wonderful time anyway though and really enjoy yourself! When I saw the I've lost my plug thread this morning I thought it was by you and nearly had a heart attack lol!!!

Thanks for all the advice re the bouncer and playmats will have a look into the suggestions this week xxx

Haha no plug loss for me!!! You'll be first to know don't worry :)

I'm having strep b testing done tomorrow morning. I think it's disgusting that the nhs don't offer it routinely. My midwife friend is doing it for me because her LO was born with it and she was in intensive care for a week so I'm keen to get it done.

Oo what does that involve is it a blood test? I don't know much about strep b my mw has never mentioned it xx

As far as I know it's a swab test which is then sent to the lab. It's an infection that a lot of women carry and it's passed through the foof to the baby and then the baby can get really sick. If you have the infection (I think 35% of women do) then they put you on anti biotics for the last couple of weeks I think and during labour. Give it a google.

Will do, thanks for that. I wonder why they don't test routinely if it's as high as 35% have the infection! X

They do in the US and throughout Europe but I think they feel it would do more harm than good here.

Just read the article and its quite scary!! x

Just got back from emergency appt with the doctor about my itching skin, been awake all night with it but he was useless. He noticed I had a rash on my chest/back but said its just allergies, gave me some cream and allergy tablets. Im not allergic to anything! The creams side effects say it gives you stretch marks! Ugh. Not sure i'll even use it. Going to hospital weds so will check with them. My sister had pupps and I reckon thats what I've got if not oc, doctor wouldn't listen though.

Beer, LOL I obviously wasn't that wide awake. Sammy that's horrible, I haven't been too itchy thank god. Just crying in the evenings because of my ribs :(
So if you use the cream it can give you stretch marks?? :/ weirdo cream xx

That's not very helpful of him Sammy :( what does the rash look like? mine started out as red spots and they sort of merged together to form an angry red blotchy rash (lovely!!) if its that none of the creams the docs gave me worked so I wouldn't use them. Camomile helped the itchiness though xx

I know I just read the instructions and it said can cause stretch marks :( prob wont use it tbh will get some camomile like you said.

Mines like yours doob, red spots which are merging together. I don't like male doctors, he was a bit creepy.

Anyway hope everyone is having a good start to the weekend, can't believe it's 2 weeks til I'm induced, get my induction date next Wednesday at long last!

Eeeek so exciting it's so close!! I think you're right just use camomile until you see your consultant on Wednesday. Tbh mines still red but so much less itchy now I've not used anything on it. Xx

Eek.. Sami I bet your excited :) you are welcome Doob and Newbie I hope the baby shower goes well :) xxx

Hi ladies just butting in... I have strep b, it was picked up after a swab I had at the day unit when I was worried about leaking fluid. Basically if you're positive for it you need to go to the hospital as soon as you go into labour and will be given iv antibiotics every 4 hours during labour. Giving antib's before labour won't help. At first I was a bit worried about it, as it means a longer stay in hospital, less active labour etc... But I'm glad I know now and me n bubs will be monitored closely. I have stamps all over my notes letting the midwives know I have it, lol.

Thanks Diane for that info.. I'm still umming and aching over the strep b test.. Don't know whether to text my MW on Monday and ask for her opinion. How long should it take for the tests to arrive though.. Urghh it annoys me how they don't routinely test for it xxx

The problem with routine testing is when do you do it? You could be negative one day and positive the next. Giving sbtibiotics broadly in advance is not a good solution as it will just breed antibody resistant strains and we REALLY don't want that. Similarly 35% of mums/ babies don't need treating for it. I don't know much about the details but I can see why routine testing isn't done.
