***June 2019 Mummies***

Yeah, I tried those Linnett and found them useful when at home to use on the breast baby wasn't feeding from, as I found that was when it'd produce the most milk. But they stick out quite a bit so make you look like you're wearing Madonna cone boobs and don't stay in place that well so never wore them out! I think Meghan has probably already had the baby  xx

Oh really unicorn? Oh I was hoping they’d be amazing lol. I’ll still get them & give them a try & see how I find them. I haven’t brought any maternity things yet! I really need to get my act together. I’ll see things & think “oh I need them” but then walk away lol. I think I’m in denial that I’m actually having a baby in 8 weeks haha

Sounds like you've been amazingly productive today though Linnett - I have spent the entire day cuddling our little boy, only getting up to try and get through the vast amount of washing we have from his sickathon last night! I'm now exhausted and very hungry! Xx

Hope your little ones okay unicorn.

I’ve just watched a video of a woman give birth on fb and now I’m like oh craaapppp that’ll be me in a few weeks!!

Ladies, I’m starting to get panicky about what I need. So far I only have the pram, next to me crib (no bedding yet though !), few packs of nappies, wipes, vests, babygrows, couple blankets... and that’s it! Lol

I’ve always thought I still have so much time left but suddenly starting to panic!

As I still plan on having homebirth I guess I just think “I’ll have baby at home & everything I need will be here” but that might not be the case at all. There’s always still that chance I might be induced or I plan a homebirth & need to go to hospital so I still need everything just incase but what?... you wouldn’t think I’d done this twice before would you lol. Like maternity towels & breast pads - how many should I buy? I’ll need nursing bras but what size & how many?

It’s strange, I know I’m having a baby & I can’t wait but it’s like it’s not really happening either. Almost like it’s a dream that I won’t truly believe until he/she is here. I think that’s why I’ve left everything so late !

Help lol

I know what you mean Linnett. My sister has arranged a baby shower for next week so I'm hoping people haven't bought just clothes as I could do with a bunch of other things to be honest.
My maternity bag is ready and we finally have a bedroom decorated and can sleep in it tonight. Just baby's room to finish now! Our house is slowly coming back together. Been the hardest year of our lives. Hoping we can enjoy a short Babymoon before June and his arrival.
I didn't think about the royal baby much but that would be annoying if she picked the same name as I like names that aren't too popular. Hope she goes with something traditional lol.

Linnett with regards to nursing bras I totally recommend the bravado bra. It's stretchy so there's no wire pressing into my bruised feeling ribs and the cups will fit now and hopefully even if I get even bigger! I was a 30DD before pregnancy and dread to think what I am now but a medium fits fine.

As for maternity towels, I've bought a box of 12 and hope that I can get a few more from the hospital. They have to be shipped out here so I'm hoping that by the time I run out I'll be able to switch to normal long night pads. I also bought some disposable underwear so I have options.
For breastpads I have bought 7 pairs of washable bamboo pads and a box of 36 disposables. At least that should last me until I have a better idea of what I like. And I have a haakaa pump to use on the other side while feeding so hopefully I won't waste too much milk into pads.

I’ve packed a good handful of sanitary towels and breast pads. I’ve got about 3 big knickers and disposable ones too

I just think if I do end up staying in or need more I’ve got family who can go get me more if need be and then I’ve got plenty at home too

It’s scary it’s actually coming round so fast now!

I know what you mean smcx. Baby could come any day now really. My mum had my bro naturally at 35 weeks and me at 36.5 weeks and had two planned c sections. So literally could be any time!
I've bought a pack of 4 massive knickers I can just throw away after, a pack of maternity pads and a pack of nipple pads. I got a bargain on nursing bras and bought these super soft sports bra type ones from Amazon. Pack of 3 different colours for less than £20 and they fit perfectly with lots of stretch. So pleased with that find!
Is anyone wearing a labor gown? I've seen these around but don't know if they're waste of money or not.

I thought about buying a labour gown for pictures but they seem to cost loads and will probably get ruined anyway. Plus if everything goes to plan and I get a waterbirth I won't need one anyway. And as much as a special moment as birth is, I don't think I'll want pictures to remember it by. At least not of me! I'm going to wear dark pj's after that I don't mind getting ruined and then take a nice set so if on my last day in hospital I feel up to pictures I can do my hair and makeup and put nice pj's on just before changing into my going home outfit. I doubt I'll care enough to do all though! Though it would be nice to remember my pregnancy hair! It's never going to be this thick again!

hello all,

Hope everyone is ok?

I've had a busy couple of days! Ended up in hospital with my youngest on Wednesday. He's had an headache on and off since Monday, his temp went through the roof, his heart rate was high, BP high....he was just an unwell little man. Took him to the doctors who contacted the pediatrics at the hospital and they sent an ambulance to the surgery! They gave him more paracetamol, dehydrated him and did all manner of tests. He soon came back round and was acting like nothing had happened! They think it's all due to an ear infection! Anyway, he's home now and on the mend.

Made the most of being at home yesterday and finally got round top dismantling our old 5 door wardrobe and put up a new 3 door. We really did not need the 5 door, it was just full of crap we'd not needed or use in forever. So that has created loads more room in our bedroom. Either donated or took rubbish to the tip, felt good to have a clear out :D

Also, had my 36wk consultant appointment yesterday to talk about mode of delivery. They basically said as i'd had a section before that they are obliged to offer me another section. I'll be honest a little bit of me wanted to snap her hand off, the thought of having a date set to give birth was appealing, knowing that she would arrive quickly and safely i almost said yes. But I've had a vBac before and that went smoothly, and the recovery of a section puts me right off having one (would obviously have one if she or i was at risk) so in chose to go natural and weeped a little inside as i said it haha, my poor foof lol. Bump is now measuring 2.5wks ahead, so 38.5wks instead of the 36wks that i am, she's going to be a giant! As i had a large baby before that ended up over due and resulted in the section they have said i can have a sweep at 39wks and 40wks to encourage the cervix. I had this last pregnancy too, the first sweep did nothing, the second sweep sent me into labour the next day so i'm praying it works again this time.

In terms of maternity/breast pads. I've gone down the lazy route and bought disposable. I've got a box of 60 breast pads from wilkos that was only a couple of quid! And so far i have 3 packs of maternity pads (packs of 10 i think), i use this at first then swap to normal night pads. I've packed about 10 pairs of breast pads and a pack of maternity pads in my bag, if i need more Hubby will have to come back to get them. I also went to good old primark and stocked up on cheap knickers, pack of 5 full briefs for £3.50 i think they where....so i won't be upset when i have to throw them away. I also found some feeding friendly nighties in primark too. £6 a nightie and it has buttons up the front so should be easy to wipe a boob out :D

Also, i've been reading and apparently lots of women use support bras in the first couple of weeks after birth rather than maternity bras...reason being is because your boobs will grow again once your milk supply is established and you'll end up having to buy more bras in a different size to house those puppies. So i've bought what looks like a sports bra, but softer, from morrisons (of all places) and it's easy enough to just pop a boob out from underneath. Then once milk is in i'll get measured and buy some good fitting bras. Let me be honest, i'll probably not leave the house for the first couple of weeks so housing my boobs is no problem. I'll worry about those some more when i have to leave my nest lol.

Wow, that was an epic post! If you made it to the bottom, well done haha

Thanks for all replies ladies! It’s helped me to know amounts to get & give me a kick up the arse to go get them so I’ll sort all that this weekend. I think my biggest problem will be the bras. My boobs were a 34G before, I think they are just bigger than a GG now as I’m clutching on to a bra I got early pregnancy in that size so god knows what size I’ll be & I’ve looked ok amazon and see they have multi packs of 3 bras that look good but do my size. And then everywhere else is ridicules prices for bigger sizes! I think I might just have to bite the bullet & go get measured in a few weeks & see if I can find some reasonably priced bras! As I really want to give BF a good go I feel I should be more prepared this time so I don’t just give up if you know what I mean. If I gave the right bras / easy access clothing then I hopefully shouldn’t have any hurdles that make me give up.

Baby, bless your son! Sounds horrible! I remember last year my boys glands swelled to the size of golf balls, he’s temperature was at 40 & one night he just cried all night so I took him to the docs next day & because his glands were so large & his temp was so high they sent me to the hospital straight away because his symptoms could have lead to leukaemia! I just remember getting to the hospital & the nurse looking at me & saying are you ok, you look very pale & I just burst into tears. He was fine, he just had a severe case of glandular fever but it’s so scary when they are admitted to hospital! Hope he gets on the mend soon!

No I diny bother with a labour gown. Just gave birth in my bra with both my kids as didn't want anything touching me. Didn't care about what I looked like in pictures as those first candid shots are priceless regardless of what you wear. My fave pic is me holding my eldest, minutes old, not slept in 3 days, just in a bra. It's the purest pic I own.

Linnett, i know what you mean about removing all obstacle so you give BF a good go. I was determined last time, i bought the bras but i also bought a fancy sterilers, loads of bottle and 'just in case' formula milk haha....i practically set myself up to give up.

This time i've just bought a cold water steriliser which i'll use for dummies/breast pump bits etc. And i've bought 2 bottles, which will remain hidden in the cupboard. I'm not buying ' just in case' milk this time either haha. I've also invested in BF tops and nighties etc So i've no excuse this time lol.

Yeah the whole hospital thing was scary, he just looked so poorly. Worse this is, this same thing happened to his older brother when i was carrying him...which is exactly 6 years ago to the day near enough! His brother had headache, high fever, heart rate, BP etc...he was rushed in and it turned out to be meningitis! The only difference in symptoms was his brother had light sensitivity and my youngest didn't. I was absolutely terrified that history was repeating itself. I've never been so relieved to be told it was a suspected ear infection lol

Oh yeah and i'm not going to bother with a specific labour gown, didn't even know those existed lol. I've bought a couple of cheap nighties from primark, one of them is a really deep purple colour, and majorly baggy so i'll wear that then thrown it when i'm done. I'm hoping with the wireless monitoring that i can have a water birth, so i'll just be in a bikini top :)

And my first pic of me and my son is the same as marvellous, baby is minutes old and laid on my chest...hair all over, bright red and looking shattered and boobs popping out all over. I look a mess, but i love that photo, the pure love i have in my eyes meeting him for the first time, you could never reenact that i don't think. xx

Aww baby that sounds horrific. So glad they were both ok!

I’m not buying any bottles at all. As the first couple days are just colostrum really I figure if for whatever reason I can’t BF after that I can order some or send hubby out for some, probably order though as he’d get the wrong ones lol.

I was completely stark naked when I had both of mine! I couldn’t deal with clothes, I was so hot & having clothes on just annoyed me ha but yes the picture with my first DD she was just on my chest, nipple half showing & as you say you never look back & think oh god what a mess! We’d just given birth, were superhero’s ! Lol. My whole face & eyes were blood shot for a week after her from the straining when pushing ! You know what I’ve just realised - I never got a picture with my son! :( where I had a bleed hubby was holding him whilst I was being sorted out so the firsts ones with him were on his own or with hubby! I’m hoping my cousin (photographer) can capture more this time as you don’t get those firsts back so I want to get as many as possible this time regardless of what state I’m in lol

Oh no baby hope he’s okay now!

I’ve just got a nighty from primark and two sets of dark pjs for afterwards. Although I didn’t get a nighty with buttons which I’m now thinking maybe I should of!

I’ve also got primark nighties! Good old primark!

I got the pack of three soft nursing bras from amazon but will buy more when baby comes. I will warn you I went to mothercare to get measured and they refused to do it till you are 38 weeks as they said it’s pointless as such a different shape and bump is too high.

We still have no nursery or cot and haven’t started my hospital bag. Figure I have loads of time!

So fed up of being told my bump is “neat and tidy” and comments about how I’ll have a small baby?! You try carrying this bump around! I don’t feel small! Think it’s just all baby as so hard and low. Looking back at photos I’m actually a little bigger than second pregnancy and she was 8 pounds. Was biggest with my first and she 7.12 so it really doesn’t correlate with size of baby to bump!

Sorry to hear your little one was ill baby. Hope he is all ok now. Xx

Glad to hear your little one is on the mend Baby, that sounds like a really scary experience, especially given your past experience! We're coming out of the other side of our little boy's sickness bug as well, thank goodness - it's been a hard few days!
We're away this weekend so will be using the bag I'll be using for my hospital bag, so will pack it for the hospital when we are back next week. Remember nipple cream  xx

Sounds like we are all getting organised slowly but surely. I cooked a batch of spag bol and a batch of chilli tonight which has gone in the freezer. At least when baby is here we might get some home cooked meals if I keep freezing stuff lol.
That weird popping sound is back which my midwife said is baby swallowing or sucking thumb. Such a strange noise, like a loud tongue pop (think Alyssa Edwards lol) that comes from somewhere under my hips haha.

Oooo smithy I’m sure I’ve had that too!

I had the worst nights sleep, kept needing a wee then my other half was snoring so I couldn’t get back to sleep then ended up on the sofa at about half 2 but couldn’t get comfy as baby was wriggling and my legs kept going dead. Will definitely be having a chill day today now
