****July 2018 Mummies - Tri 2****

Oh gg what a rough day, glad you don't need the progesterone it's horrible dribbles out the entire day.
Had my 16 week appointment, apparently my due date is the 7th complete bull shit. I asked of they will change it at the 20 week scan because obviously the scan man said its not a reliable scan measurement. She said no. Had enough of the hospital and Drs and midwives already.
My midwife said she thinks I'm having a girl aha, she said the HB is really fast (ikno old wives tales) so I said dd was always 156. She said this one is 156. Kinda got my hopes up for a girl :p x

If you're the 7th then you match me :D x

If there is only a few days difference between what you think is you DD and what they say your DD is, I wouldn't sweat it, babies never arrive on due date anyway x

She thinks it's a girl? Nice! I have my appt next week, must pay attention to HB. At other scans it was around 120 i think x

What are people's thoughts on maternity leave? I literally have no clue about this and when is best to stop working etc.

Do you know if it's possible to take annual leave just before maternity leave?

I was thinking along these lines:

Due date: Sat 7th July
Maternity Leave Start date: Mon 25th June (Sat 23rd is 2 weeks before due date)
Then if possible take 2 weeks holiday starting: Mon 11th June
Therefore my actual last day at work will be Fri 8th June and therefore one month before my due date.

Does this seem reasonable to you guys? Is a month adequate time? Obviously I know every pregnancy is different and different levels of needs etc. But I want my maternity pay to start as late as possible so I don't miss out on as much money.

Work are trying to pressure me for the dates and tbh I really don't have a clue, I want to wait and see the consultant before properly thinking about it, but for now those dates are my plans!

I will take the 39 weeks off and then give my estimated return date as: Mon 25th March 2018.
I've read that if I decide not to come back then I have to give my normal month's notice so if I decide not to then I can hand in my resignation in Feb I guess.

Sorry for all my rambling, just need to get it typed out and see what people think. Don't know if anyone's noticed but I like to get reassurance on things before I do them haha x

It all really comes down to how you are feeling towards DD.
Yes, you can take annual leave before you start maternity. Your maternity leave starts as soon as you give birth, the closest date you can pick is your estimated DD hospital gives you, you can't go with a date you like. In your case it's 7 July.
I finished work 2 weeks before DD and I was happy with that. This time I am going to use all my leave first so possible I will finish more like a month before... I will be bored as hell at home but at least I'll be at home.
I will be taking 9 month leave x

I thought that you could go with a date you choose to start maternity leave? I'm confused now x

Hey Jem. I'm just being nosy (I read this thread too as the June one is super quiet - and I'll probably end up with a July baby!). This website helped me a lot when thinking about when to start my annual leave and maternity leave (which I am also taking back to back) :) https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/leave basically, you can go on maternity whenever you like after 29 weeks.

Good luck with your decision! You don't have to give work a decision until your 24th week either, if you're not ready to decide yet.

I am pretty sure that maternity leave will start as soon as you give birth but since nobody knows that date before (unless you are having an elective c-section), your work will take your EDD as start of maternity and work backwards with holidays that you want to take before it.

That's what I remember from last time but I may be wrong, maybe you can start maternity sooner if you don't have any annual leave to take... x

There you go, wrong I was, sorry!

Haha that's what confused me KHTW!!

Thank you Summerwine, I've been using the gov website for a lot of things, definitely helpful to have the law so clear and in black and white :)

everyone is different as to how they are feeling as they get bigger and Dday draws nearer

last time I didn't use much holiday before hand as I wanted to keep it for afterwards when DD was here as unused holiday can be carried over into the next year

I took two weeks holiday and then 1 weeks maternity leave before DD was born. I'd have worked right up until due date any other time of year but it was lambing time at home and I was around to look after husband while he was super busy

Hi ladies,

Long time no see, I've just spent some time catching up on the last few pages. :)

I've been a little stressed out and avoiding the internet, I mentioned at my booking appointment to my midwife that I"d had surgery on my cervix a couple of times and that the last time the consultant had told me I had a short cervix. So the midwife referred me to a consultant.

This consultant had the worst bedside manner I've ever come across! We saw her two weeks ago, she had a look ay my cervix (just manually, ie sticking a finger up there... lovely) and said I had a very short 1cm cervix. Which I know is a risk in terms of preterm labour.

She then booked me in for an internal scan, I'd already had a letter for 23rd February, but she moved it forward, the conversation ran thusly:

Consulant "Let's see if we can get you in sooner, It's be a shame if you miscarried on, say the 22nd and we could have seen you sooner and tried to do something about it"

Me "Er. Yes it would be something of a shame......"

Consultant: "Good well, you're all booked in for the 18th. Try not to be too terrified."

Me: "Yeah, I'll try not to. Thanks."

This was pretty much how it happened - verbatim.

So I spent two weeks panicking, and wondering what my chances of preterm labour was, would I need a cerclage to hold it closed? Am I going to be walking on eggshells until June?

The scan rolled around today and off we went, I was saying to my DH, "Well, let's hope it's not got any shorter, and let's just enjoy seeing the baby"

The sonographer measured the cervix, and said: "It's absolutely fine. Well within what we'd want to see - 3.5cm"

I couldn't believe how relieved I was, I nearly cried.. we saw the consultant later (a different one thankfully) who said the cervix looked absolutely fine and we'd have another scan in a couple of weeks to make sure it wasn't getting shorter or anything. But she said it didn't even qualify as being 'short' and as long as it stayed mostly the same then we'd be discharged back to midwife led care.

I wanted to share just in case anyone else has a similar thing - I notice GG that you had a rough day which also involved some cervical stuff.

The sonographer also did an external belly scan and confirmed that the baby is growing well, she also said that it's a girl!!

I hope everyone is doing ok, I've not felt the baby, but then I'm not sure I'd know if I had!

Definitely feeling fat rather than pregnant, hope I start showing soon now that most people at work know!

Wow a girl Fela congrats, that's amazing :)
Aw you've had a rough time of it, I really wish consultant's didn't view themselves as better than anyone else and use scare tactics all the time!
Nothing better than someone who is understanding! X

Wow!!! You've really been put through it haven't you. How bloody awful!

So glad all is okay and Yes, they said today that anything under 2.5cm is a risk, over that and okay...over 3cm and you're fine.

And you were ok with yours GG? It sounded in your post like they said it was ok? How's the pub going? Have you started your new menu? Odd to think we were both at hospitals just a few miles apart today!

We've told parents about gender, at least this now gives me time to subvert my MiL's 'pink and pretty' instinct for girls clothes (she had two boys and has often said she hoped for a granddaughter whom she could festoon with princess floof).

Not 'anti' pink, I hasten to add.... and it's purely a personal opinion :) I'd prefer generically colourful and vibrant to pretty...

Oh Yes, you found out it's a girl.. amazing.

Yes, mine is 4.5cm so all good. Just need to get myself a belly band for day and one for night and be very careful with my back. Yes, menu at the pub is on and I've started the Sunday Carvery's again. Just need it to pick up a bit now. Xx

Jeez Fela that sounds aweful! Some consultants should be... shot!

Congrats on your baby girl! x

aw congratulations Fela I'm glad all ended up okay

how exciting you know the sex so early

I'm like you, DD does wear some pink but I love her in mustard and greens and yellows most. any colour goes here

I'm the same. Not totally anti-pink but DD has a good selection on multi colored clothes. My MIL thinks I am weird for not dressing her in pink and make her wear dresses everyday (she only wears them when there is an occasion for it, as I believe she is most comfortable in leggings and tops). Thank God I have OH on my side, he thinks his mother is the weird one :D

I absolutely do! I had DD in sleepsuits for the first 3 months as she looked so cosy in them and it was way easier to get her nappy changed etc. I told family not to buy her any clothes in sizes 0-3 cause she simply won't be wearing them. Again, was labeled weird! I will be doing the same this time!
