*****August 2014 Mummies*****

mummy_midwife- oh gosh hun! Scary! But exciting too- maybe you wont have too much longer before she puts in an appearance! If she will hang on another week that would be easiest with the home birth I know!! Eeeeek- I could be doing your labour thread soon!!!!

Keeptrying- that must have been a huge relief! They really do like to worry us with these movements! Glad all was fine though hun- good weight already.......wonder what my little man weighs now?! xx

Happy 'fully cooked' day to Kaffee :-)

I know mum2b naughty little babies! I couldn't believe the weight! Bit nervous now tho don't they put on a 1lb a week now?! Means she will be about 10lb!! Mummymidwife that must have been scary for u glad it's all settled but I bet a part of u wishes that she would come so u can start feeling better again! Xx

Hello again,

Just had my hospital midwife check up, I'm measuring 39cm and baby is engaged. She said the loose bowels I've had since Friday are caused by the baby getting ready to come out, eeek!

She said the next time she'll see me is 08/08/14 for a sweep win I'll be 40+5 if I've not gone before then.

I see my community midwife in 2 weeks so at least I have one more appointment which makes me feel a little more relaxed.

Unfortunatley they weighed me - WHY???!!! I've gained 25kilos so far - that's 4 stone, and I wanted to lose a stone prior to getting pregnant so I think I'll have quite a task on my hands shifting this lot! I'm not actually that concerned, it is what it is, I hope a lot of it is swelling, my legs are so swollen.

Soooo I'm guessing baby might come anytime!

That's really exciting harspray! Bet u can't wait now! Don't worry about the weight it will all fall off after pregnancy! Xx

Evening all. Had nursery visit and stork walk today. kind of wish I hadn't done the stork walk, just seeing where I'd give birth has put fear of god in me, when I was quite chilled out before. It was also Blinkin hot too, so nearly passed out!

Wardrobe rebuilt in our room today so everything is now in the right place at last, just a bit of sorting out of nursery to do now our stuff is out of there.

Crickey harspray, you could be the first to pop! I'm in same boat re weight gain. Just sorting out clothes today makes me realise how much I've got to lose afterwards.

Harspray- how exciting!!! How far is baby engaged? Is this your first- sorry I can't remember or see tickers (I'm on tapatalk). Yeh- the loose bowels must be a big old clear out so babies head can come down!! I remember being told to eat loads of beans and drink OJ when I was 39 weeks with Ethan to keep everything 'moving' lol! .....I put on nearly 4 stone with Ethan hun- it took time but it shifted! The first 3 stone was fairly easy but the rest I had to work harder for!..... I weighed myself at 36 weeks and I've put on 2 stone 12lb so far :-/ I know it will go up a fair bit more- especially if I go 2 weeks over!!

Keeptrying- I don't think its a whole lb a week- otherwise crikey!! Lol! Mummy_midwife would know I'm sure!

Kaffee- I remember feeling similar after our hospital tour! Something about seeing where all the action is gonna happen makes it scarily real!! Try to stay chilled though hun- you've done so well up til now, I'm sure u can get your composure back! How was the nursery?

I'm off swimming tonight with my pregnant friend! She's about 30 weeks but much more petite than me!! Told her to b prepared to b seen with a whale! Lol!
Been getting low down sharpish pains this afternoon but not period cramps or anything. Maybe bubs us popping his head up and down?! Also got a sore coccyx :-( Been v uncomfy to sit today! Don't know if its everything loosening up of baby being in an awkward position!

Xxx

Hi Mum2b,

Midwife said I was 2/5? Not sure what that means. I had my first Antenatal class this evening and it was actually being run by my community midwife, I told her that my fundal height measurement had jumped from 34 last week to 39 this week and she thinks I should've been sent for a growth scan. She's asked to see me on Monday which is a week earlier than planned so she can assess me herself, the hospital midwife seemed very rushed today- she didn't plot the fundal height and it's way above 90th centile. Maybe she measured it incorrectly in her rush.

I know what you mean about other mums being more petite. Some ladies at my class were 36weeks too and they looked tiny! I struggle standing up from a chair and they looked like they could go for a run no problem!

Right time for one born!

I was wondering if the 3rd stage is something that is discussed beforehand and goes in the birth plan? My wife didn't know what it was till I asked her tonight what her preference would be tonight so it's not come up before.

Do I have this right?

Natural - Baby is left attached till cord stops pulsing, cord is then clamped and cut and placenta comes out on its own. Risk of extra bleeding for mother, baby benefits from extra blood stored in the cord.

Managed - Mother injected straight away which causes contraction and cord clamped and cut. May be some side effects from the drug and bleeding may go on longer.

Hi Alan yes that's right. I just did my birth plan with mw and have opted for jab as didn't want to risk extra bleeding with natural. Ur mw should discus this at 34 weeks :)

Thank you, we have midwife next Thursday for 34 week appointment so hopefully she should should cover it then.

Hi Alan. You can have delayed cord clamping then an injection to manage it afterwards. If I have a choice I'm opting for semi managed, so delayed cord clamping, give it say 30mins then get injection to speed things up if nothing's happened naturally. This is what nct lady told us we can ask for rather than have to chose one or the other.

Keep trying, I haven't discussed my birth plan with midwife at any stage, mad how it's all different isn't it?

Mum2be - I'm sure you didn't look like a whale, hope you enjoyed it. I must swim sometime soon else I have bought a preg takini for nothing. Nursery was good, same company as one we'd already seen but in different part of town and more modern building.

Kaffee that's mad do they not write anything in ur notes? I had an hour long app with my mw last week to go thro it all. She literally went thro giving baby vitimin k, placenta injection, do I want skin to skin straight away. Can't believe they have not said anything to you! Cxx

That sounds to me like the best option but obviously it will be a decision for my wife to make. Not that things always go to plan anyways.

Hi guys! Swim was lovely but really did feel huge :-/
Harspray- 2/5 engaged can b taken 2 ways.....generally it means there is only two fifths on the babies head palpable above the pelvic brim- so baby is quite fair engaged. Sometimes I think midwives write it like that and it means that babies head is only two fifths down so three fifths still palpable?! Its confusing!...... That's good that your community mw is checking on things and being a bit more thorough! I'm sure all will b well but good to get checked!

Kaffee- I never had a full discussion about my birth plan last time round and have barely discussed it this time either! Don't think they encourage it too much where we are! Keeptrying- I think that's nice u get an appointment to discuss it!

Alan- I never got asked about having the injection with Ethan- they stuck it in my leg literally the second he was coming out! I actually didn't mind after my three day induction- was glad to have it and it all be over with (placenta was out with no issues within about 3 minutes!).
This time I'm hoping for delayed cord clamping if possible and then the injection! Just make sure u make your wife's wishes known as sometimes if u don't say they just do it! Don't think anyone looked at my birth plan last time at all! I guess because my labour was all artificial there wasn't much left to do with my birth plan! Lol!

Night all xxx

Glad u had a nice swim mum 2b :) it must be my area that is weird then she went into loads of detail and gave an extra app so it wasn't rushed weird huh?! Watching the football hope holland win :) xx

Helo guys I cant keep up with the thread At the minute só much going on :)
I went to chiro today and she was good and tonight I can actually move after days of complete agony so fingers crossed it will work.

I agree with the bowels thing, mine are continually being emptied since last night (sorry tmi again) and that's what happened with my other 2, I was in the toilet for most of early labours ... Not sure it means baby will be coming soon???? Mum2b you may get a text from me :0 or not. so glad you went swimming, I am sure you looked good :) I just feel sick if in pool so feel deprived of the relaxing effect of it ! Shame about your coccyx, we can't win at the minute , can we?

Keeptrying that's great you had time to
Discuss birth plan, not all women get this as things are usually so rushed :) I think weight gain at this stage would be on average 1/2 pound a week, I hope so cause otherwise I will end up with a 14 pound baby :0

Kaffee, it's good you went to have a look around as at least you have an idea of what it looks like, but is understandable that it can create a bit of anxiety, but I am sure you will work through it and feel prepared for the big day. Congrats on being full term now :)

Alan, as others have mentioned, you can still have delayed cord clamping with an active 2nd stage. In the unit where I work we always wait til cord stops pulsating before giving the injection. There is a 3rd option for the 3rd stage - though not for the faint hearted- a lotus birth, where the cord is never cut and placenta is left attached to baby. You can suggest that one to mrs and see what she thinks :)

Mum2b, a forceps delivery is almost always followed by an active 3rd stage, although they should had explained that to you before giving it :/

Hairspray, I hope the other midwives' measurement was a bit inaccurate and that baby is growing nicely , really not on to not document things on your notes, but glad you are seeing the other midwife.

Sorry if I missed anyone... Feeling very tired and really need to sleep after last night

Xxxx

ETA- i meant 3rd not 2nd stage

Me too, please let Holland win x

Yay!! Finally slept after 35 hours straight awake :) Yesterday was weird after the false labour. Was exhausted but just could not sleep. Had the need to keep moving and do things. But by 9pm I was in tears at the thought of no sleep. Legs kept twitching everytime i tried to go to bed. Soaked my feet in warm water and tried again and got possibly the best night sleep Ive had in months.
Got excited this morning, rolled over and sat up and felt instantly wet down below, but was just show...lots of it again. Was a lot yesterday as well, but been losing little bits for 3 weeks so prob nothing again.

36 weeks today :)

Sounds like lots of ppl have false starts and labour signs!

Mum2be - Assuming i'm not a gibbering wreck in the corner I'll make sure they know her wishes. She is thinking delayed as well now having read what everyone is saying.

Mummy_midwife - She just laughed at the lotus birth, probably the thought of me trying to dress the baby with placena in tow. :)
