******August 2014 mummies******

Oh hun, that's so rubbish! My midwife is near retirement too but she is still doing it!..... We should ask mummy_midwife- she would know the guidelines! Xx

I got my scan date through the post last week, not at 12 weeks. Also 25th March Allyackels , quite a few of us with scans on the same date :)
Lovely scan pic weezy, very clear :) there is a good deal on a clinic at Edinburgh or Stirling for £49.50 if you are interested in a 16 weeks scan ?

Mummybear, I hope no one minds but if I can offer a little bit of insight it may help.
All midwives and obstetricians working in the uk have the national NICE guideline as the gold standard guidelines.
So I know where your midwife is coming from and the guidelines do say that listening to heartbeat shouldn't be offered routinely, but if you ask her to do she should do it.

Here is an extract of NICE antenatal guidelines:

"Auscultation of the fetal heart may confirm that the fetus is alive but is unlikely to have any predictive value and routine listening is therefore not recommended. However, when requested by the mother, auscultation of the fetal heart may provide reassurance"

Mum2b, I cite these guidelines in my dreams lol have to constantly keep up with all the changes !
This heartbeat one is newish and not very popular, I would always listen in for reassurance for both myself ( that I have a live and well baby) and mum for the same reason, plus it is so special for mums and partners... If mums wish you to why not?

I would kick off mummybear !

I knew you'd have the answer!
Good old NICE guidelines.....we were always trying to keep up in my old job!...... I think in a way its silly- it only takes a couple of minutes if that! And if u r led down with your tummy exposed anyway- like u say- y not!! X

Hi ladies when did you get your 20 week scan dates through? I'm only 14 weeks but seems others were given there date at the 12 week scan? X

Morning. Got my letter through last night I'm 17wks today, just depends on how they do booking in your area. Mines on 17 March so will be a few days off 21wks.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Back home for a few days before going back to London Friday. So good to see OH, he'd even ironed some of my clothes!

Hoping for no 2. i was given all my appointments until 30 weeks at my booking appt which i had at 12 weeks. . Last time it came through the post tho. The midwifery services where i live seem to have beenade ffar more efficient.

Ive got my scan march 25th too ha. :D

kaffee. Bless your oh ironing some of your stuff. He must have reeeeeaaaly missed you! It would have to be a life death situation for mine to touch an iron lol

Oh no I really want the midwife to do this so that I'm reassured baby is ok! Will def be sslinh if she doesn't do it x

Yes please mummy midwife.. Can you send me details please? I can get an 18wk in Glasgow for £39, but if I were going to do that I'd be as well waiting to 20wks I think! Don't want to spend a fortune but going to surprise my OH with it as he's sooo looking forward to that part :)
Mummybear I'd be the same, I'm not there yet as still technically in tri 1 till Sat (omg) so have never been offered a doppler, but I really want to hear hb and will certainly be asking for it at 16wks.

Kaffee hope you have a good few days at home. I'm also in London for work next week, really not looking forward to the flight, rush hour tubes, trains etc etc. However am looking forward to being fussed over in Head Office :) :)

I'm going to visit my family for a few days, they are 3hrs North of me.. Long drive ahead :/

Xxx

Aw Kaffee, bless your oh ironing your clothes, mine does iron but honestly takes half an hr to iron 1shirt so I tend to tell him not to bother lol

Lottielou, there are quite a few of us with scans on 25th , it will be a busy day for the thread, can't wait :) I feel a bit better from sickness this morning so taking kids to watch Lego movie , I am taking my sick bag as usual though, just in case!

Hoping for no2, just tell the midwife you want to and cite the guidelines if she says anything, although I would have thought most midwives do listen in though ;)

Weezy, here is the link, on their website they say sexing is usually from 17 weeks but they are happy to do it at 16 weeks, I used the clinic with my last baby and they were spot on at 16 weeks. I will let you know how you get on on Sunday when I will be 16+1... They also turn on their 3D for the scan so looking forward to it

Weezy and Kaffee hope you enjoy London :)

I think ill request one later on then?

How come you're having a sexing scan, don't you find out at 20 week one?

Has anyone looked at buying yet for the baby yet?

Bought loads already, not outfits or anything, just things for the nursery like wallpaper, bedding

I am having a sexing scan because

1- my children aren't allowed in on the NHS one and I want them to see baby on scan and think it will be a great experience for us 4 as a family to find out together.
2- I am inpatient and quite eager to know really.

Hi everyone - yesterday I was feeling annoyed because the doppler wouldn't work and after having read reviews on the Mothercare one that I bought I am taking it back, the reviews are terrible. I am thinking of buying a more sophisticated one from ebay but might just leave it, really hope the midwife listens to hb next week at appt, I am going to push (a bit) if she says no as I feel like I need to hear it, I am so needy lol!

Glad all are well, so tired from the time I get home from work at the mo, trying to catch up on everyone's posts. Being referred to occupational health due to my 2 weeks sickness (long term health condition), I am happy to be referred.

Hope everyone is good :)

Lots of scans on the 25th it seems, so weird!! It can't come soon enough for me.
I'd be gutted too if the midwife wouldn't listen in on the heartbeat. I see mine on Friday for my 16 week app and will definately ask her to do it if its not offered.

Got my midwife appt Friday too Allyackles- she has said she will listen to HB! I was lucky to hear it at consultant appt Tuesday as wasn't expecting too! Can't wait to hear it again! Getting stronger kicks last 2 days...... Hoping it continues as its v reassuring when I don't have a Doppler, especially with my bleed last week xx

Donnah- def push for it for your own reassurance!! And def take that Doppler back! Xxx

This is so weird that not only do we have our midwife apps on Friday but I heard babies heartbeat yesterday too!! I've had a popping sensation the last few days, which has been lovely. I'm glad you're doing better after last week.:)

Hi all! Our due date is aug 18 and our next scan is April 3rd :) Cant wait to see the little be again. I hope everyone here has a great pregnancy :)
