I found this with the classes i went to with my first born hun.
Even though i did want to bf (only lasted 5days) i was very shocked at how they spoke to little and so down about bottle feeding.

One women said she had bought bottles etc as a just incase. I had also bought stuff with the plan to express (came in handy at day 5 though when i had mastitis and cracked pussing bleeding nipples!! - no not just 'sore' lol they can get very bad!!)

But the bfing consultant said something along the lines of 'so your already putting yourself down to fail and fall at the first hurdle having these in your house'
I was gob smacked!!!!

I dont rate antenatal classes at all!

So far they have been great but today really rattled me. I don't know if everyone was being polite and went along for fear of being judged but I stuck up for myself and told them of my plans when a doll was passed round for us practice on. Normally I would submit and go along with most thus but after the way the class was conducted I decided to stick up for my choice.

I hate the bf V ff crap its so annoying.

Obv i know why they promote breast milk. But they should make aure they also cover formula too, go theough the different brands available etc.

I hated how mine was very bfing forced, obv at the time it was what i wanted to do anyway, but the comment about that women 'failing already' cos she had bought stuff was horrible. Spesh from a professional.

I hate CRAP support and guidance once Noah was born too, which led to latching issues and the mess my nipples got i to aswell as mastitis.
Even the 1st night he was born spent in hosp 2 mws sat and watched me from across the room try and feed him for hours. By 3am she came over, tried squeezing my nipple for a few bloody seconds! Then got a form and asked me to signed to let her feed him formula, told me to go to sleep and she took Noah and fed him that! Lol! What type of support is that! Lol xx

I can fully see all benefits of bf, it's seems the obvious choice really but for some like myself it just doesn't appeal to me And being forced to do it makes me worried sick, but since being pregnant I have found my voice so think I will be ok. Another thing I found really mean is that there is no help or equipment for ff mums at the hospital.
I also want to say I'm not trying to start an argument about what is best, just voicing my disappointment in the system on how they make new inexperienced mums feel about not wanting to bf.
I've done everything else to make sure I'm giving baby best, not smoking, no caffeine, eat well etc, so I think some slack should be given

At my birth plan appt last week it was on the list to discuss feeding but the midwife said they're not supposed to talk about it? She then went on to say that she doesn't understand how they are suppose to advise mums about taking in their own bottles etc if they're not allowed to discuss it.
Hv today did have leaflets for both formula and breast feeding though and although we didn't discuss bottle feeding at all apart from not to give a bottle to a breast fed baby until 4 weeks old-my response was 'my son had a bottle at 3 weeks due to it been Xmas and me and his dad going out for a meal which meant leaving him for 3 hours' this was followed by the no dummy for 4 weeks advice which was met with a 'all mine had one by 2 weeks' and then the advice that dummies should be taken away at 6 months-'all mine had them till they was 2 and Santa came to collect them'. She stopped advising me after that.
The hardest part of bottle feeding is the ever changing recommendations on how to prepare a feed.
Since I've had my first it's gone from making 6 up at once and storing in the fridge to making one up at a time in anticipation of a feed?!
Not practical at all x

I asked my mw today at my 34 week app about when do we do birth plan, she said its up to me to print it off the Internet and put it in my notes!

Luckly my hosp does provide milk in the little bottlesnu can get as a starter pack in the supermarkets.
But i know many hosps dont :(

Agree Em, its changes constantly! Its annoying really coa my mum used to do the whole make up feeds for the day and store them in fridge and just zap in mircowave when needed. Told her thats a no no now and she was like WELL!!! Didnt do u four any harm once i stopped bfing by making them that way lol.
Its true though!

I tried the whole fresh feed and letting boiling hot water cool whilenu have a screaming demanding cluster feeding newborn. Not fun lol!
I made them in te end in a similar way to how the prep mahines do them, took me alot of practice to the boiling hot/ cool boiled ratio so it was ok to drink instantly lol..

But if i dnt succeed with bfing this time im getting a prep machine. With now being single i just cant be dealing with a 3yr old at my legs while i have a screaming newborn and im in the kitchen trying to cool down a piping hot bottle lol!
So i have ine in my amazon wish list ready to buy as and when i need it! Lol

As for dummies lol! noahs 2.5yrs and its his and my best friend for his bedtime! We r hoping to do the santa thing this yr, hell be 3.5 but i think ell underatand it a bit better and ihe currently now inly has it for bed ao it doesnt bother me.

Hate all this 'recommendations' lol! xx

Mine just asked where i want to give birth. Nothing about the doff pain reliefs or anything. Obv i know all this now being 2nd baby, but i had to sit on google and nhs site to look first time around!!

Im hoping she goes through the vit K injection with u though.. Defo ask questions if u have any hun!
Or ask us on here xxx

We have one at 34 weeks here and it's been the same for all 5 pregnancies although it's more of a checklist-birth partner, who to cut the cord, skin to skin, pain relief.
Years ago it was a full page of things I wanted but they never went to plan anyway, I do think it's important to have the main points outlined.
I've only got 2 appts left until due date, 1 at the hospital for growth scan and clinic then one at midwives at 38 weeks...exciting but scary.

Can't believe the kids have broke up for Easter-the next fortnight will fly.

Oh and for my past 2 baby's I used to sterilise and fill 6 bottles with water and leave them on the side then just warm as needed then add the powder x

I haven't bothered with any ante natal classes this time, but last time ours were brilliant. The majority of one class was breastfeeding, but they spent the end bit talking about bottle feeding, how to prepare bottles etc and how important it was to ask the midwife for help/advice if needed.

I think it's hard with where to draw the line on BF advice. Obviously the midwives can recommend any formula etc or best brands (because effectively, there isn't a best brand?). They really need to push the support until mum is sure she's not doing it anymore, because it's almost encouraging them to stop otherwise, you know? With someone saying "I'm struggling" it's not the right thing to say "aww well at least you tried", they need the advice and support to get through it.

I say this because I REALLY struggled with my son. I used to cry at feeds in the first few weeks, I had a crack right around my nipple that I thought it might fall off!! I was lucky, because I had my mum come over at 5am to help me latch him when I was struggling and to coach me through it, a lot of women don't have that. It took me longer than most - maybe 10-12 weeks? Before I found it not-painful, and from then it just got easier and easier.

I've not been pushed on breastfeeding much, but my midwife has brought up a home birth at every single appointment. I don't want a home birth as this is my first, I have no idea what to expect and I want to be somewhere where I think i'm being looked after, so that's the MLU for me. But every time I see her, she's like "have you thought more about a home birth?" I know they need to keep beds free in hospitals, but I don't want a home birth and I don't want one forced on me!

Yes Noah did and Charlie will be

I was injected but i didnt know ot was the vit K she just said this is needed to get placenta out cos it wasnt budging. I think they give so much time for it to come out itself before helping with the injection xx

Due date seems to be approaching fast but these last 2 weeks have gone really slow, I keep getting a week ahead of myself.
Im so uncomfortable now, Logan is pushing under my ribs and I'm really dreading another month of this-I don't even want to move off the sofa because I can get comfy...please say it's not just me.
My sisters coming round shortly for her hair cut n coloured and I'm dreading it-really don't wanna have to stand for an hour x
