Delivering the placenta is important. Once baby is here, you need the placenta to arrive soon after, and whole.

Some people can have the placenta only partially come away, which can mean mum bleeding out, and some retain the placenta, also not good as it died shortly after baby is born, and you don't need that stayin up in there.

You can have an injection to "force" placenta delivery.

Personally, I honestly don't know if I had the injection last time or not, and although it know the placenta was delivered about five mins after DS, I don't remember it happening/feeling it/noticing it.
On the other hand, I read someone on here the other day said placenta delivery was nearly as painful as delivering baby, which... I dunno... Seems odd, but, hey ho.

The injection obviously helps delivery.
People opt against it as it's more chemicals, less natural, all that good stuff.

If you're unsure here, best to put in your notes to "go with doctors advice, wait as long as possible before injection" or something similar. I know there's a certain amount of time they'll wait (back of my head says you get either 15 mins, or an hour, to deliver placenta but I'm not sure which and both could be wrong).
I believe after the "allowed" time, doc will either inject or operate (as you wish) to remove the placenta.

ETA: DO NOT READ PAST HERE IF FEELING QUEESY.

Seriously, just skip it...

Oh okay, carry on...

Then it gets whisked away with the rest of the goo and that's that, unless you decide to keep it either for placenta printing (involved rolling the placenta over paper and framing the resulting bloodstain as art, awesome!), or for your first meal when you get home, or perhaps a smoothie if you own a blender.
Apparently, if you go smoothie, mango is a key addition for that perfect flavour.

I know it's probably easier to say now, when I have no idea how I'll be feeling, but I really don't have a problem with LO getting injections. I know there are people on here who have issues with needles and I have some sympathy in that situation, but seriously it takes like 5 seconds. I know it's comparatively bigger compared to the baby than to me, but the Vit injection, and all the other vaccination jabs later on? Meh, just get it done and give LO a big love afterwards.

As for delivering the placenta. Yeah, REALLY looking forward to that. Gotta happen, so gotta get on with it, I guess.

I'm trying to take the approach that if I was worried/scared about labour/birth/pain/delivery, I probably shouldn't have got myself pregnant. So rather than work myself up about it, I'm trying to find ways to make it less stressful and try to relax about it. Getting tense can't be helpful, right?

Remind me of this in about 12 weeks when I'm crapping myself, kay?

Thanks Lacey!! Makes sense when the midwife mentioned it I'd hearD of it,but I think she assumed I knew exactly what it was and entails!! I think I'll probably go for the injection, then I don't have to think about it again!! I'm sure I'll have a lot going in in my head. I knew that the placenta had to be delivered, but I didn't know anything about injections or anything!! I just assumed (naively I guess) that it just came out after baby did!! I'm so pleased that we aren't all first time mums here-I've learnt so much from you all!! Thank you xxxx :-) xxxx

Placenta lovely
I remember delivering it
I had an injection in my leg they said can take up to 20
Mins mine was out in 5 lol she wasn't ready for it
You kind of or well I did got another small contraction feeling and it came out whole
The midwife checks it's all there and then carries on with any stitching etc if needed
I had a 2nd degree last time as lo came out like super man hand at side of head lol
Not nice but didn't feel the tear
Just remember it burst a blood vessel and it sprayed blood up ohs top and face lol not funny at the time x

Last time round with DD I had the placenta injection and I never felt any pain and it was delivered all in-tacked within minutes. I'd rather have it delivered and over with than have to sit an hour waiting for it naturally. It meant I was up and showered and on the ward Resting with my baby :)

DD also had the Vit K as soon as she was born and I don't think she felt it at all, I mean when she had the heal prick test few days after.... She didn't flinch or even cry it was like she didn't know.

Myself I hate blood tests only one I dislike it makes me cringe the thought of veins eeeek but I'm ok with other ones like flu jabs ect but I'd rather take the injections and have a baby that's protected as that's what they are there for.

As for birth plans first time round I just wanted to go with the flow as sometimes things can happen that you can't control. I didn't have any expectations I wanted OH to cut the cord but I ended up doing it as it didn't really appeal to him lol

Oh before i forget last time round I was in labour when I finished packing my hospital bag lol not the best idea so when is everyone else packing there's ???

I hear second babies come earlier I was 41+2 days with my DD she kept me hanging 9 days after my due date.

Cut your own cord? Good work!

As for packing a bag, I'm away later this week, so will probably think about it when I get back, but as we're about to have building work done in the house, I'm actually in danger of having to ship all my stuff out to a friend's house to avoid the mess. Maybe it'll be a little later than I thought. Eek??

Ok seriously. I know in the next couple of weeks I'll have to start making a note of patterns of movement. But is it a pattern if they've been constantly doing the highland fling and throwing in a few jazz hands for the last 4 hours? How is this baby getting the energy? If they're like this once born, I'm going to strap them to a treadmill and set it up on a generator. I'll never pay another energy bill.

I did Loretta :) it was weird only way I can describe it was like cutting a tough sausage lol apparently OH isn't up for it this time either so I will happily do it again.
Hopefully your building work doesn't take to long.

Lol Loretta I didn't really notice a pattern with DD she did move a lot on two occasions she went quiet and I went to get checked out at a&e I think sometimes we just know if there is something different or doesn't feel right

I think once I get into the new house and unpacked all our stuff and tidied stuff then I'll pack my bag!! So prob in the next few weeks xx

Oh I remembered that during my midwife appt yesterday they asked if the health visitor had rung me. When I said no not yet they said that she/he will ring to arrange to meet me between 34 and 36 weeks!! They'll come out to my home to see me!! I live in Leeds!!x

I still never asked about the damn health visitor... I'll try an remember if I'm back for anti d today.

Not all midwifes recommend counting movements, because babies are people just like us, and have busy days and lazy days.

As long as you're feeling movement each day at some point, that's what matters. You'll subconsciously be aware of movement, and you'll know if something feels "off". Xx

Morning beauts.
Felt very grown up yesterday - sorted out mine and ohs life insurance and will. We sat down and discussed who the beneficiary and primary carer would be if we both died - horrible stuff. I also tried to have the 'me or the baby' convo as i said if it was a life or death situation pick the baby over me but OH wasnt having any of it. Said he wouldnt sign any consent forms etc and id just have to deal with it!
Abit intense to discuss on a monday eve! Hahaha.
Feel alot better today than what i did yesterday, just so tired! Counting down these last weeks at work! And then its only 5weeks till bambino is here. Cannot wait to see what flavour weve got :)
Xxxxxx

Morning ladies

Nice that you sorted your insurances out Claire, know it's not a nice thing to talk about but great to have in place

How is everyone this morning?

My little one deff has the chicken pox he is covered this morning and the itching has started
Calamine lotion coming out today poor little thing

Also got another blood test at the doctors at 3 today to ensure I have enough anti bodies to keep it at bay as my mum thinks I had it but can't be 100% positive her memory isn't the best

Besides that the house is still a complete mess
Got electricians back again Monday to do a bit more they have 4 more days to do yet before its completed
Time is ticking and we have so much to do
After the electricians have done we need joiner in then plasterer :( not going to get it done I just know it
Sorry my moan over hope your all ok x

:)
Off to the midwife at 11:45 will see if she mentions about the health visitor

Hi ladies,

Hope you're all well?

I'm starting to feel quite uncomfortable with rib pain. Had it since 22 weeks on a daily basis but it's definitely getting worse. Bump is feeling quite bruised/tender where my LO has been dancing around. I can definitely feel that her kicks and wriggles feel much stronger!

Laura, happy 29 weeks! Wow, only 1 week to go until the big 30! Sorry to hear about your little boy, bless him, chicken pox is horrible. Hope he's feeling much better soon and that you've got the antibodies against it.

Lots of talk about labour and placentas! It's starting to feel quite close, isn't it?! I think I will go for the injection for the placenta and also for baby girl to have the Vit K injection. From what you ladies have said, it doesn't sound too bad and I'd rather get it out of the way.

Claire, my OH and I have talked about sorting out life insurance too. Seems much more important now that we have a little one on the way.

Haven't started packing my hospital bag yet and probably won't for a few more weeks but plan to buy bits and bobs in the baby events.

xx
