Yoko, this is a weird question for wtt - but I see your ticker is a boy&girl cat, how do they get on together ? We currently have two girls but I'm trying to get OH to get me a tom - I get cat broody, 3 sounds mad but I'm sure we can make it work hahaha xxxxx
They genuinely love each other, will curl up together, look out for each other with the occasional disagreement, and they quite happily will walk past each other and dish out the odd slap.
When we first got the younger one we had a period of about 3 days where we were thinking "Crap have we done the right thing here?" because they weren't getting anywhere; she was really intimidating our very sensitive boy. Then one day she pushed him a little too much by sticking her head in his food, he showed her who is boss and since then they've been really close!
I think it would depend on whether the tom would be older or younger than the two queens, it isn't likely our tom would have tolerated an older cat but then he is a peculiar sort of cat tbh!
Are your two girls siblings? Are they close?
No, they'r not biological sisters but they look similar. They have their moments too, mostly they are nice to each other have the occasional snuggle and groom each other, but as normal they have their mad half hours. They'r quite close in the sense of they look for ach other about the house, play and sleep beside each other.
I wanted a rag doll and in the end up got two tabbies and I still long for my rag doll.
Have you ever thought of more? Or do you think two is enough?
I was never a cat person and now I find myself getting cat broody? Some people believe they have this power that makes u be like obsessed with them and get more - I'm starting to think its true lmao xxxxx
Are they about the same age? I don't know much about Rag Dolls (mine are both just mogs), might be worth investigating their temperament a bit.
We have considered more a couple of times but decided against for a couple of reasons:
- We'd have to shut the catflap whilst the new kitten waited to be fixed/have it's vaccs and I don't think I could handle the histrionics from the other two.
- They both have quiet... developed personalities* (LYLLJellytots can attest to that) and I think it'd quieten them down a bit and also wouldn't be enough time for us to spend with the kitten to allow it's personality to show through.
- it would push our pet plan and insurance up quite a bit.
I'm a complete crazy cat lady type. I've had 3 other cats in my adult life. Before that, I had owned a lot more dogs. I'd quite like a dog again, actually.
* Yes, we talk to them, pretty much like they are humans. They have developed some pretty cool traits - one will "kiss" you (headbutt) if you ask him nicely, and he will reply conversationally if you talk to him. The other squeaks instead of meows and its crazy cute!
Both of them are fairly independent when they want to be; they have access to the outside whenever they want it and are quite happy to either curl up with us, go out or take themselves upstairs and sleep as they see fit. I used to have an indoor cat who was very dependent on me (was very ill boy) and used to prefer to be carried around the house with me, would cry something terrible if I went to another room without him. He loved me so much though, made it worth it
