July 2019 mummies

Haha so you understand! I hate oil heating! I live in a village just outside of a "big town" according to their standards (only 15k people population in the big town). There's a GP in my village and he's been quite good so far, can't complain! The maternity unit is in "big town" though, so will have to go there.

As this is my first pregnancy, I had no idea of what to do in terms of appointments etc, checked online for my area, and found there was a self referral form I could fill in and hand in to my health centre to be referred to midwife. Just went this morning to hand it in and the woman at reception had never seen this form before! She was very apologetic and said sorry that looks so bad if we don't know what this is haha, but she was lovely, and said usually the GP would like to see me now as apparently won't have my first appointment with midwife until at least 10 weeks, might be closer to 12... is that normal? She said the GP would just take bloods, blood pressure etc for now to check I'm healthy and that, but said she would check with him about this new form and give me a call back. Just thought it's weird that first appointment with midwife isn't til 10 - 12 weeks, thought it was usually 8 weeks with most for booking appointment? Again, first pregnancy, no idea how this works!

Also, when she said congratulations to me in a hushed voice I got all embarrassed and excited haha... feels a bit more real now I think!

I think it’s pretty standard procedure now. With my first 2 I made appointments with the GP to inform him I was pregnant, they then pass your details on to midwife & they contact you for first appointments. With this pregnancy I called GP but they just said they don’t do appointments with the doctor first now, you just wait to see midwife around the 8-9 week mark so I’ve got my first appointment 29th Nov when I’ll be 9w2d. That appointment lasts around an hour & it’s the midwife that refers you for the scans & you’ll get a letter in the post telling you when that is.

I guess with so many new pregnancies everyday there’s no need to see people in the early weeks as there’s nothing they can do & maybe because most miscarriages happen in the early days they almost wait until we’ve got through those weeks to start taking things further?. My GP said if I had any problems before my first appointment to give them a call or if anything serious did happen you’d go to EPU.

I rang the GP as soon as I found out and got directed to midwife at the nearest hospital. My appointment also 29th Nov (snap Linnett!) when I'm just under 9 weeks.

I wondered what team yellow was but I get it now haha. Definitely don't want to find out, want my OH to be the one who tells me the sex.

Has anyone else considered going private for an early scan? I'm tempted to go at 8 weeks, 12 weeks feels like sooo far away

If you feel like you need it then go for it. I find they charge alot tho personally. Iv always been lucky (Not sure you'd agree really) that I get regular scans from 6 weeks up in the nhs. I find as great as the early ones are, the 12 week one is special, the growth in a short time is amazing. Il never forget my daughter's. After a very hard road I never thought I'd see that, and watching her roll and wiggle her legs was amazing.

I was only in Ireland a year before I moved back to my home town. I travelled about abit in my early 20s. Having gas central heating back was amazing haha

I was considering an early scan but when I asked hubby today & he asked ho much & I said £80 his answer was “why am I going to pay £80 for something that will get done for free a few weeks later” haha for once - he has a point lol so yeah we deff won’t be having one & will be waiting until the 12 week dating scan!

I love being team yellow - makes it so much more special I find. We didn’t know with our DD & we weren’t going to find out with our son but the Sonographer was a trainee & we could clearly see all his bits!! So I’m making a point this time of saying we DONT want to know!

Penny has just dropped about the meaning of team yellow, lol. When I had my placement on maternity last week I'd say it was about 50/50 for those who knew and those who didn't. Not sure quite where I stand but I'm thinking it's a surpise regardless of when we find out so half way sounds like a bonus.

I am tempted to go for an early scan but it’s £86 here I don’t know if what to do it’s a lot of money for something that I will get free a few weeks later (like what your husband said linnet) I just want to know the baby is ok, and I am so inpatient to wait another 6 weeks lol

It's so tempting an early scan isn't it but it is a lot of.money and with Christmas so close I should be concentrating on buying Christmas presents. But I think my 12 week scan will be after Christmas unfortunately would be lovely to get it done before.

First morning of gagging this morning!!! Oh jeez.

I was looking up prices too for early scan when I realised my 12 week one would probably be after Christmas too! but just can't justify the cost... it's not going to change anything getting the early scan, I'll probably still worry after anyway!

Morning ladies how is everyone getting on?

I literally feel awful. Spent the last 2 days in bed as I feel like the life has been sucked out of me. Starting to think I may have a bug or this baby just doesn't like me lol
I was like this with my first then once I reached 12 weeks it was a wonderful pregnancy.

How old are we all then mummas? I'm 31 next week.

Oh no hope you are ok! The start is so tough and getting to 12 weeks seems like forever. My sickness still isn't in full swing but I think once I hit 6 weeks it'll be worse. I have it pretty mildly compared to what it can be like so far. I'm literally dreading trying to hide it while working this week!

I'm 34! Not far off bring classed as geriatric. Lovely term they use!!lol

Hope you feel better Marvellous! I've been sleeping a lot at night, slept around 11 hours last night.. but it's making me feel less tired during the day so that's good. No nausea or sickness, but im only 5 weeks so plenty of time for that still to come! I'm 28. Happy birthday in advance Marvellous!

I was so tired yesterday after a terrible might on Friday so I went to be at half 8. Work up at 8! Tbh, I'm known for skill of sleeping but apart from getting up to pee once I've not slept that we'll for ages. Still peeing on ICs each morning as it's still so early and I want to check the bean is there.
I'm 39, 40 in May. Been married since last May having met my DH 4 years ago. It's all very exciting, first one for both of us but I'm still taking it a day at a time atm. Oh, and I am so thirsty it is unreal. Literally cannot drink enough atm. I have about 5 long shifts to do then we go on holiday. If all fine when we get back then I will get an 8 week scan and after that I'm telling work so I stop being on the road. Just about to qualify as a Paramedic. We arebt allowed to work frontline when pregnant as the job is so crap (no meal breaks, late finishes, long shift, lifting, unsafe environment - some of the houses are soooooo bad).
I hope I dont have morning sickness next week as that may be hard to hide, although I can always blame my colleagues driving (I've puked from that before!).
I'm Caroline btw

Hope you're feeling better Radleycat! What do you do if you're not working frontline as a paramedic?

Has anyone else been having nightmares? I'm not usually one to remember my dreams, or realise I've been dreaming all night at all... but for past couple of weeks, I've been having horrible nightmares and vivid dreams... woke up last night at around 2am after having had a horrible nightmare, DH wasn't around and I couldn't sleep again for ages after. Every morning I've been waking up feeling I've been running around struggling with something all night if that makes sense... hope the dreams stop... last night was really horrible.

Bless you! I haven’t been having nightmares but vivid dreams every night for the last few weeks. Last night I had TWO different dreams I was having twins lol. I’ve heard both are very common though but hopefully yours doesn’t last too long !

I was planning on going to book my MW appointment tomorrow, mw just rang me to make me an appointment lol very efficient. Me being the fuzzy brain I am forgot to ask exactly where my appointment is. My Dr's surgery is next door to the mw center lol. Il go ask my dr.

That's great Marvellous! When's your appointment?

I called the GP today as they hadn't got back to me yet after Friday, and they said they'll refer me without having to make an appointment with GP, and midwife should be contacting me sometime this week hopefully to arrange appointment!

Are you ladies getting the flu vaccine? I asked about it today and got told I can have it if I want, and to call back on Friday to see if back in stock as they have a shortage of them at the moment!

26th so Il ne nearly 9 weeks by then.

I'm gunna get The flu jab as it's quite bad in my area atm. Canttake the risk esp with 2 kids in school already

Yay on the appointment marvellous my midwife rang me yesterday to sort out an appointment in a couple of weeks it’s makes it very real now the midwife is in contact :) I have made it to 5 weeks today lol it is going way to slow for my liking!! My doc offered me the flu jab but I chickened our I am so scared of needles but I know I will have to go at some point when I can pluck up enough courage too lol

I'm not a fan of needles either but don't really want to have the flu while pregnant! Hopefully they get some in stock soon... the joys of living in remote NI.

Yes, time is definitely going so slowly!! I told DH I was 5 weeks as of yesterday, and he thought I was joking and that I should be like 7 or 8 weeks by now haha.

Good to see everyone’s getting their appointments sorted :)

How’s everyone doing? What’s your worst symptoms out of curiosty ?

The nausea is annoying but the 2 things that stand out the most are my painful boobs/nipples!! They’ve already grown a size, if not 2 (I was a 34G to start with!) & they feel now how I’d expect them to feel after babies born so I dread to think how they’ll be then ! The other symptom is my own breath lol! It’s what makes me feel so nauseous I think. Don’t get me wrong it’s not bad breath but the only time I feel not sick is whe n I’ve brushed my teeth ! The way I explained it to hubby is you know when your hanging & you mouth just feels dry & furry & you just have a crappy taste in your mouth, well it’s like that all the time lol. This was actually one of the things that lead me to believe I was pregnant as it’s not something I’d normally notice / be bothered by but it’s been annoying since about 3 weeks pregnant ! Lol

Anyone else have any weird symptoms ?
