Yay loving that it's February!!! Although a little scared that I still have lots to sort out. At least I'm on mat leave now.
How's everyone feeling? I've been getting period type pains on and off, is this an early labour sign? My baby is unfortunately still breech but have spoken to midwife and consultant and they've said I can still deliver naturally. Anyone delivered breech before or know anyone who has? Xxx
Cosmo I delivered my first naturally, she was an undiagnosed breech birth.
Really great to hear that the consultant and midwife are positive about delivering naturally.
Basically my waters broke around 4.30pm when I was 40+10 after getting a sweep the day before. I was asked to come in to check my waters had went for sure so I pottered about then went into the hospital about 7pm with about 3 contractions in every 10 mins but they weren't painful.
The midwife internally examined me and said I was 4cm dilated but she thought baby was breech so they brought in a portable scanner to confirm...she was.
A doctor came in and said I needed a c section which I reluctantly agreed because I knew nothing about breech babies, this must have been about 8.30pm/9pm
However my contractions ramped up a gear and were on top of each other.....the theatre was full with 2 x emergencies and they couldn't take me.
Basically I delivered her in a ward with the head of gynaecology who ran through the hospital to get me me lol. I started involuntary pushing so they put my legs in stirrups...called the paediatric team and told me to push, one push her body came, bum first...then one leg...then another...then another push her head came out.
She came out perfect...crying with a score of 9. The paediatric team weren't needed.
I had a small tear that only needed 1 stitch, she was also a big baby for a breech delivery at 8lb 12oz.
I was out of hospital within 12 hours....I literally could have went home after about 4 hours but it was the middle of the night.
Oh Ment to say I only used gas and air....I don't think I would have got her out of I had an epidural the urge to push was so strong that that really helped deliver her completely naturally with no assistance so that's something to think about if your going to go natural.
I loved giving birth, and I if this baby was breech I would have no hesitation in delivering it naturally.
Any other questions just ask away xx
