SPD Support Thread

Sorry to hear you've been having crap days - I know the feeling well! But great that you had a better day Willowwisp :)

I ended up in the maternity unit saturday night as the pain in my pubis/stomach was horrendous and got myself panicked that it had to be something on top of the SPD. MW's were lovely, but when the doctor came in (he was foreign and was a real struggle to understand anything :( ) as soon as he heard SPD/PGP he just started lecturing me about it - if he was English and a conversation was an easy option then I would have told him I know all that and I was still worried!

Have finally been signed off work which is a huge relief, one less thing to worry about! But pain was still making me feel really low so when I spoke to GP about being signed off I asked about pain relief options - you know what he said?!? (Still can't quite believe it!!) 'Have you tried Ibuprofen?'
I thought I heard wrong so asked him again, and told him no as I was under the impression that it wasn't safe in pregnancy and he said well why not?! He then consulted his 'book' and said 'Oh yes I see what you mean.....' WTF!!!!

So I'm going to try Reflexology.... See if that helps?!?

Wishing everyone a pain-free day xx

p.s Sorry for long ranty post.....

I'm so lucky, the combination of the physio, acupressure, tens machine, epsom salt baths and morphine mean that my good days I can amble around the house a bit.

I can't believe your GP recommended Ibuprofen 1stbump! What an idiot! And I can't believe they didn't reassure you when you went in to the maternity unit. Chances are if you have another episode of severe pain that doctor won't be there, so don't let it put you off going back if your worried x

I had a really good morning today .. Managed about the house without crutches! The feelig of freedom
Was immense :D

Now I'm paying for it and can't put any weight on my left leg at all ... Somehow still feels worth it though

Well - I had an awful night last night :( the pain was scary and I barely got any sleep! But, had reflexology today which was lovely!! I slept all afternoon, and while I am still aware that my pubic bone isn't 100% comfortable, I feel sooo much better in myself! LO loved it and had a right party when she started! Would definitely recommend it :) Will let you know if it continues on......

Glad you had a bit of a reprieve (if only for a short time) Tweety - even a morning without constraints makes a huge difference to how you feel! :)

Hope you get your consultant appt soon km28

xx

Isnt reflexology a meant to start labour? Xx

I know if done regularly it can mean delivering closer to your due date and you may have a shorter labour! But not sure it can bring on labour?!?

The lady who treated me avoided my 'reproductive area' and said that she didn't treat women in the first trimester. I only used her through recommendations, and I would always say that you should check that they are properly qualified. There are contra-indications which would mean it wouldn't be suitable for everyone - but it definitely made a difference for me (today anyway) and have booked another for next week! Xx

Hi ladies, ive finally been diagnosed today!! N my gp is going to shout at my midwife for dismissing me as she says i was right in going as waiting to my 16 week apointment was wrong! :) feel like i had a weight liftes off my shoulders :) x

That's great you have finally been diagnosed. I mean obviously it's horrible having SPD but at least with a definite diagnosis you can get the support and treatment you need xxx

Im having a good day, was deffinately ready for a day off work today and a bit of relax n its made such a difference :) how r u feeling x

Having a bad couple of days ... Ended up missing my friends wedding yesterday ... Absolute pants

Today is the worst my left hip has been I can't put any weight on it.

Hoping tomorrow is better

Leesey, if you are about ... How are you now?

oh girls i really feel for you! being pregnant is bloody hard enough without the added trauma of SPD.

hope you all find relief soon. xx

Hi ladies thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 14 weeks with my 3rd baby. Had SPD with both the others but definately not his early which kind of freaks me out. Luckily I self referred to physio at 5 weeks as I already had few aches and they saw me at 12 weeks. I have now started hydrotherapy which I am hoping will help!! I am not in too much pain just uncomfortable but am also aware I have a LONG way to go!! I feel for all you ladies I wish they could do more to support and help women with SPD. They didn't offer hydro with my other two just gave me a belt! I guess I am lucky to have been offer hydro this time around. Hope you are all ok xxx

I had it from 8 but my midwife wouldnt even see me, she sed it was too early so i troed to put up with it but couldnt and went to GP at 10 n was diagnosed.. Still waiting to be refered to physio though but still waiting for appointment.. Wots hydrotherapy? Souds lovely x

We self refer here to the physio in the hospital. Hydrotherapy is a really warm pool where we do exercises to strengthen your core muscles. Think its supposed to help keep your pelvis more stable if you have good core strength (don't quote me on that but think that is the whole point lol). It is nice when you are in there but you do ache more when you get out. My sister could only do it until about 30ish weeks as her hips kept popping out of line I think. ( She had it worse than I have with previous pregnancies). I just hope it works. I have also got an exercise ball just to bob up and down on which is all they have recommended I do and few other gentle exercises. I'm also trying to walk little and often with my support belt to attempt to stay a little fitter than I was during previous pregnancies!! Not sure how long I will be able to keep it up. xx

Aw sounds lovely... I dont even no if ill be allowed a belt yet my mw sed they dont give em til after 16 weeks but i have a bump so who knows, i struggle to even walk down the road its rediculous .. I dont know how i will cope at the end x

Well today isn't any better. I have genuine concern that my hip has dislocated? Can that actually happen with SPD. Im in bloody agony! Can't even walk with the crutches

Thinking about phoning the physio, but know that in all likliehood I'll be feeling better by the time I get an appt :wall2: They never seem to see me on a bad day? Plus hubby is back at work now so I have no way of even getting to an appt?

Trapped in my own home :brat:
