SPD Support Thread

My tail bone is the one place that hasn't hurt, but there was a woman at my SPD class thingy that I went to and that was the only place she had pain

I get mine mostly in my left groin / hip area now. But the last couple of days its been right in my public bone again

I feel like kicking OH in the nads .. just because!

Lolololol - I know the feeling! My OH is pretty good really, but he said to me this morning that his hips were aching :wall2: could've smacked him one!!

What's the SPD class thingy??

Mine was mainly my pubic bone, but I have no movement in my right hip now and it seems to have moved around the back which to be honest is slightly more bearable than where it was!!

My physio dept make you go to a group SPD class before you get a one to one session, as most folk with SPD have manageable symptoms, i.e. don't need crutches etc.

Only once you have been there can you get a one to one session with a physio .. I suppose it saves them a lot of time.

The poor tailbone lady (who was a complete stranger) ended up practically carrying me into the hospital as the walk from my car was too far and I was in tears before I reached the room!

Interesting way of doing it - I guess it's a good way to meet a local support network as well?!? I guess I was lucky and just got straight to a physio. May even phone her tomorrow and see what she can suggest - just gotta pysche myself up for the hour drive to get there, and the 10 minute walk from the car park.......

Hope you have a good night tonight xx

Sorry to bother you ladies and hijack your thread but you seem to be the perfect people to ask for advice on this matter.
I am 25 weeks pregnant and over the last week I have had what I can only describe a pain in my vaginal area which is worse when I get up and stand and makes walking difficult. It sort of feels like my vagina is bruised (definitely no chance this is sex related!)
A friend of mine said it could be SPD (although she is NOT medically trained in any way).
When I have looked into SPD it says about hip pain which I dont have, does this sound like it could be the start? Or is it totally unrelated?
I would really appreciate some advice and hear if any of your symptoms started like this.
Thanks x

SPD can present in many different ways.

Mine started in my pubic bone (like I'd been kicked between the legs .. a lot)

I know have it in my hips, groin, pubic bone, and bum!

Best to get referred to your physio to get checked out

Thanks Tweetyfoo, I was afraid you would say that. I am seeing my mw in about a week so will mention then and see what she says.
Out of interest, how long was it before the pain got bad? At the moment it is manageable but I am dreading it getting worse as I have a very lively 15 month old to run around after!

That's how mine started I'm afraid. Thought we'd been a bit enthusiastic in the bedroom, then when it didn't go and it turned more into a groin pain I thought I had overdone a long walk. At that point I was about 6 weeks pregnant and was sick until about 16 weeks pregnant. It was only at about 16 weeks that I realised the pain was nothing to do with sex, walking or straining from being sick and phoned MW who said it was SPD and referred me to physio. I'm afraid I was on crutches within a couple of weeks and in the last 6 weeks I've needed a wheelchair to go any distance because my hands and feet are too swollen for the crutches. Am due this Sunday though so am hoping it won't be long now.

So today I've reached the point of saturation I think

I had been pretty sore wed-sun last week then had 2 good days mon and tues - I thought maybe it was the start of some relief

Last night I rolled over in bed due to pain (the prescribed way) and I literally felt my pubic bone crack .... I actually screamed into my pillow - and am now seriously concerned over what damage has been done! I get pops and cracks in my hips constantly ... this was completely new

I will phone the physio today, but I know from getting up to the toilet a few times, that I'm in a serious amount of pain ... god knows if I'll get downstairs

I have seriously had enough of this nonsense ... I'm starting to feel so hard done by (I know its pathetic, I should be happy that I'm pregnant and that I'm nearly there) I literally feel like curling into a ball and crying. I'm so sick of the constant pain, not being able to do anything or go anywhere .. I just want my baby now so that my body can be put back together

That sounds awful tweety. Did you get to speak to the physio or someone about it?

I thought I would join in this thread. I suspected SPD from about week 16 of pregnancy from googling my symptoms. Finally got a diagnosis from a physio of Pelvic Girdle Pain about 2 weeks ago!

Have had to go and get some crutches today - more as a precaution - as mine is always worst at night time its not too bad but quite often I'm at a point where I can't get up to go to the toilet. Have had pain in both hips, but mainly my left, my groin, my back, my pubic bone and the other day in my bum like a couple of you ladies have said! It's making me seriously miserable and I know that a lot of you have got it even worse than me :( xx

Oh Tweety :( Did you get any sense out of anyone? I can totally sympathise with the wanting baby to come so you can get your body back! I am naturally independent and am seriously struggling with having to rely on people constantly :( There aren't many days go by where I don't have a few tears....

My pain seems to have transferred to my back and left hip (although still don't have movement in my right hip it's not as painful as it was!) from my pubic bone - but I feel and look like an old woman :( it proper sucks!!

Welcome missyeovil to this hateful (the condition, not the peeps) club! xxx

I'm in agony in my pubic bone ... Not sure if it's coincidence or if it has anything to do with contractions?

Hi everyone, I have been diagnosed with SPD :( it's so painful, standing, walking or doing anything and it strikes mainly my lower back/bum area on my right side.

I have been referred to physio but it's a 2 month waiting list! This thread has been helpful with tips, but the pain is horrible! I hope it goes away when baby is here

Just wanted to quickly post ladies that my SPD disappeared immediately after birth. Everyone finds it really weird that I'm up and walking about ... In the hospital I keep taking the stairs and by the lift just because I can :)

Hope you are all well x
