SPD Support Thread

Thats wot they told me at a&e and EPAU but my midwfe disagreed :( x

Can i ask, did anyone get this early on in there pregnancy or is it like a tri 3 thing? Thanks x

I was diagnosed at 13/14 weeks and this is my first baby. :(

My SPD seems to move around, I can feel worse in my hips, my coccyx, my groin etc but my main pain is in my pubic bone and that can send shooting pain up into my abdo. If LO is lying low and kicks it can be agony.....

Thanks who diagnosed u? X

Just been diagnosed with this yesterday, been signed off work for three weeks then to go back and be assessed. I only have 5 weeks till I'm off on maternity leave!
Just recently bought one of those yoga balls so gonna see if that helps a little! Got my midwife on thursday too so gonna talk to her about it and see what she can advise too.

I think I was diagnosed at about 24 weeks - by midwife over the phone who told me to self refer to physio.

I had been getting pain for a couple of weeks, but thought the pains were normal pregnancy pains, until one day I literally couldn't walk.

Mine seemed to worsen very quickly and I lasted three days at work, before nearly having a breakdown because I needed the toilet and I couldn't get there - even on crutches.

Ditto, exact same. Had it from 14 weeks and moved from place to place depending on what I have/haven't been doing that day, and also on baby's position when he/she used to move around a lot. Still getting a wee bit back pain even though everything else seems to be gone this last week and a half xx

Aww that must have been awful for u :( , afew people have told me its deffinately to early but cos the a&e doctor and te EPAU midwife explained that it wasnt too early i dont know what to think, my normal midwife told me it was jut normal so tried to get on with it, she advised walking, so today i went for a walk.. By the bottom of my street i was in agony but i tried to push through it, now i literally cannot get up off of the settee :( surely it cant just be normal pains ??

Well mine has come on strong from 19 weeks but I had it bad over the last few weeks but it would come and go. Now it's continuous, even got myself a walking stick to help me! lol. Going to book a GP appointment asap but as I live on a hugely steep hill I'm dreading the walk to the doctors, even though it's only 5 mins away.

Km28 - last time I asked my MW she explained it was normal as I'm having twins so the pain will be worse, but now I can hardly walk/lie/sit etc. I'm just going to have to push it with her or my GP as I can't let this get any worse!

hi girls :)
well after so many weeks of suffering with a bad back/hip pain and 3 weeks of physio. and being off work with it i was finally referred to hopital for physio by my midwfe :) (i had my other 3 physio sessions at my drs and if any thing they made it alot worse as he though it was a trapped nerve!) and was told i have spd! she did a few exercises pulling on my leg to help it but today im in agony! is there any thing else that i can take that is safe but a bit more effective than paracetamol?
as im not sure what i can take. as this is my first pregnancy.
xxxx

If you find paracetamol isn't enough you will need to see your gp about getting something stronger. I was prescribed dihydrocodiene eventually, but that was after 2 trips to the hospital in agony. And even then it's only to be taken when things are really bad, can't take it on a regular basis. When you see the physio at the hospital again maybe ask for crutches. They do help a bit x

You can't take ibuprofen whilst pregnant so don't be tempted by that. You probably need to go to your GP and have a chat about the available options.

I have oral morphine, but my pain is complicated.

i was given co codamol but they said to stop taking it after a while because it can make you constipated and you can get that late on without co codamol, did help me sleep though tried not to take them during the day. i found my bump band helped lots with support of the bump etc xx

How is everyone getting on? I had a really good day yesterday so cracked on and got loads done, I'm paying the price today!

Gla u had a good day :)

I had a rubbish day, after sitting in the car to get the the seaside i couldnt get out, oh had to help me.. Then the thought of walking around all day was pure torture.. I had stabbing pains in my back hips n tummy which as advised by my midwife because its too early for spd i should just power through it, well i ended up with like pins and needles on my back, bum, tunmy and legs.. So then we went home after a torturous car journey i got in the bath and again got suck, oh had to fish me out .. But with the extra stone n half ive put on i think he struggle abit lol, today i was in
Agony n couldnt even get out of bed, oh was at work so i just laid there n cried :( ahhh so fed up x

Oh hun that's miserable. I know the getting stuck in the bath one well. I find epsom salts really make a difference in the bath, I come out less swollen and in less pain x

Thanks ill try that, sorry to moan just soo fed up x

Don't apologise, I feel your pain! It gets really miserable, especially when the end is so far off and it only gets worse before you get there.

I've been having a crappy couple of days ... everything hurt yesterday ... I couldn't even sit in the wheelchair, it was hurting too much so hubby had to bring me home.

Haven't had much sleep last couple of nights either...its just too painful.

Hoping for another wee good day soon where I can just get some relief from the pain ... good days don't let me crack on with anything though :-(
