One born every minute USA

Hmmm...think I defo preferred the UK one more...but then that was only one episode. Fair play to the lady who gave birth naturally but I would so allow the MW to check me out and ensure baby was fine. I'd be too scared not to. But each to their own I guess. x

I think it's always better to be overcautious and prepare for the worst when it comes to your babies life.

Even the women in the couple who wanted to be unassisited described herself as selfish and that is exactly what i thought she was. The fact she knew she was being selfish but did it anyway was irresponsible.

There is always time for natual unassisted birth attempts once you have a couple of kids under your belt.

Natures way of dealing with women who aren't proficient at giving birth is to kill them and their baby off and unfortunately you don't know you are one of those women until it's too late.

All in all, i much preferred the UK OBEM :)
Sums up my thoughts perfectly :flower:

I must admit when I watched it I got the impression it was all about what the husband wanted, not the woman in labour, he was always the one to say 'we don't want to be checked right now', 'we want to try shower again', if its all about listening to your body while in labour I don't think she had much chance before hubby was bunting in he seemed the one adamant to follow the birth plan to the letter regardless!! I would literally kill my oh if he spoke on my behalf whilst I was in labour!!! Lol!!!! When they were finally offered medical intervention u could see him about to say no then his wife finally spoke up and said yes, he looked proper peed off about it!!!!!

Hmm, just had a look at it on 4oD. Very typically American lol, being a bit on the over dramatised side. Otherwise not a bad show that shows how they do it in another country and another healthcare system, so it's educational. Wouldn't want to give birth there myself though.

Bunnykins: about that last lady, I think you shouldn't be so critical of her husband. It's perfectly possible that she wanted him to deal with the nurses on her behalf and that's why he was telling them what she wanted to do. I have a similar arrangement with my OH as I don't want to have to constantly answer questions and explain my decisions while I'm having contractions. It leaves you free to concentrate on giving birth to the baby safe in the knowledge that someone you know and trust implicitly is making sure that your wishes are followed,.. and it you change your mind you can always say so, which is what I think that lady did. Just a thought ;) :).

Agree, 100% x

I thought it was totally American and way over the top lol

As for the natural birth couple - I had a natural birth and I opted for the midwives to speak to my OH and not me but that was because I was too busy doing my relaxation (I used natal hypnotheraphy during pregnancy and labour) and it's pretty hard to relax whilst you have someone rabbiting on to you! Xxx

This has reminded me I really need to write my birth story lol ooops

Was it hypnobirthing you used miss? Did you go to classes? (hope you don't mind me asking, I'm really interested and impressed with the hypnobirthing reviews). I would love to try it for my next birth but I've heard it's really pricey x

You can tell this is my first baby lol!!! I can't imagine labour at all so your probably right she probably needed him to take over, on the day when I'm zonked from the pain and immersed in the job at hand I'll probably be begging my oh to deal with everyone. Just from my newbie eyes he seemed a bit pushy but its probably edited very unfairly as most US programmes are, they love their drama!!!

I don't think FOB said a word. He had no idea of my birth plan or what I wanted and just sat there confused. What I would have done for a doula or my mum to have been there. Hindsight ey...wonderful thing.

Sorry for late reply - it's been a bit hectic here.

Cosmic natal hypnoherapy is a lot like hypnobirthing they are both based on the tension - fear - pain theory. Natal hypnotherapy is British tho so really easy to listen to. I did manage to get my hands on the rainbow relaxation cd for hypnobirthing but I did not get on with it.

They do, do courses but Unfortunately we did not have the money to attend them. I used the 4cd boxset and the effective birth preparation book from tri 1. It prob requires a little more effort than attending the classes but we got on fab with it!

I was not trying to imply that OH's should speak for everyone by the way - as Melio pointed out some have no idea! Our midwife and the trainee who was around had never had such a calm birth and actually thanked us! I keep saying it but I really need to write my birth story - I am so proud of it and enjoyed it too! Xxx

We had an NCT reunion and one of the girls did hypnobirthing and had an amazing and inspiring birthstory! X

I love the idea of hypnobirthing, I also love the drugs lol
Can't wait for tonights episode x

oh thanks for the reminder! I could do with something to take me anger out on :D

Forgot about it until you mentioned it :) looking forward to it now

An epi.....when your half way through pushing!?! Urgh. Whats the point.

This programme annoys me. They made it out like an 8 hour labour was the worst thing that could happen and were trying to speed it up. Argh!

Im still watching it next week though
