**** November 2012 Mummies **** (everyone welcome)

Hello everyone! Sorry i've been absent from this thread just been so crazily busy with the twins but didn't mean to neglect PF! Hope everyone is doing well and managing to get some sleep- i know i'm not getting enough! lol.

Was wondering if any of you may know the answer to this if you have the wonder weeks book/app, as my twins are 4 weeks premature does this mean they'll have growth spurts earlier or should they still have one at 4 weeks etc.

Got my 6 week check up with the doctor tomorrow, seem to be healing fine but as my spine curved due to carrying the twins i've really been suffering with back pain, had to take codeine this morning :(

Hope everyone is having a good weekend xx

Lovely to hear from you Sammy!

They tell you to go by adjusted age hun, so the first leap (5 weeks) will be later for your boys... Aprox 9 weeks!

I took James out about 4pm and I've put his routine out?

I've just given him his bath and last feed but it's a good hour / 90 minutes earlier than usual.

So if he does settle I reckon he'll be up a few times through the night.

I'm trying to get Lyla into an earlier routine. She usually goes down at 12 after we go to bed around half 10/11 but I'd like her in bed by 8/9. Gave her a bath earlier tonight and shes had a feed and has dropped off to sleep twice in my arms already but wakes the minute I put her down. Any ideas?

Latest piccies above :) xx

Hello ladies! I have been lurking for the last few days but haven't found the time to post! That and the fact this thread moves so quickly I forget which post I want to reply to...!

Chloe we have the exact same problem! She goes down late and I want her to go down much earlier but she'll happily sleep in my arms but nowhere else! Hopefully someone has some ideas...

Aela has been VERY grumpy the last couple of days. Just couldn't get the wind up like normal and also seems to be quite clingy and crying for absolutely no reason. Noticed she's about to go through a leap though so maybe this is the reason? Today has been a bit better though - she has at least had a couple of decent sleeps unlike yesterday! Took her for a nice long walk which definitely did us the world of good!

In other news, I started on the mini pill last week and then a few days later started bleeding really heavily...its like a period. Was wondering if anyone else has started on this and had a period? I'm exclusively breastfeeding so really wasn't expecting a period for months yet and after my PPH I feel like I've been bleeding forever!!! Grrr. Seems to be slowing down now though but I would happily remain pregnant for the rest of my life just to avoid the old witch... :(

Anyway, think Aela is just about to wake up from a nap so had better go get the boob out!

Hope all you ladies are doing well :)

I can't believe how much hair Aela has - she is just beautiful.

I have the opposite problem, James went to bed at 7.15pm tonight, meaning I am going to have to go to bed now so we both get some sleep!

I am hoping he'll get a good few hours and not think this is a nap?

We'll see!

Night ladies

Nighty night Nat! Hopefully little James has a good sleep for you. x

Hello and welcome back missyeovil, chloenAt and Sammy!! Great to hear you are doing so well and so are the little ones :)

Chloe/missyeovil..Madison is like this at night too I try to get her to go down around 8.30ish and she will only sleep in my arms until she eventually goes down anytime after 11pm. I'm hoping the more I keep at it she will soon get used to it!

Missyeovil..your lg is beautiful what a head of hair she's got! Gorgeous!!!

Chloe..loving the big smiles!! She's gorgeous :)

Sammy..hope you get to catch up on your sleep soon lovely. About 9 weeks as Nat says, they go by the actual due date of you LOs the book is fab!x

welcome back girls, and night nat xx

well i feel awful, Arthurs been having few green poo's recently and ive researched it, seems hes not latching properly, only taking the waterd part of the milk and not the good stuff at the end of the feed, and this is prob why hes only going 2hrs apart on feeds :( it says green poo is a sign of colic babies from this and causes gases, explains arthurs grunting in the night, ended up in tears feeling im not doing a good job knowing im doing this :( xx

Well we're up for first feed of the night.

I knew James wouldn't last too long.

Wilson hun, I think you should give the HV a ring tomorrow and see what they say about the milk? Maybe expressing is an idea (he shouldn't get nipple confusion now! so it could tide you over until you are able to speak to a professional) I am sure it will all be fine.

xxxxxxx

are they available sundays?? ive left the breast feeding nurse a message too, normally i do take him off as i think hes suckling a d gone to sleep, maybe this is where im going wrong. Prob try and express tomorrow xx

Welcome back girls.

Hi Wilson, expressing for the time being will help with the hind milk. It could be LO is sleepy feeding, mine does this loads. I always leave him for about 15mins and sometimes massage the milk down as be feeds. It sometimes wakes them up. I'm pretty sure HV should be contactable everyday of the week. I hope you can get it sorted. Xx

Today I cleared all of my clothes out as hardly any fit, was gutted but it does mean a chance to go shopping lol,

Slight change to our routine tonight LO went down before 8 and I said to oh leave him to wake for his next feed. Which oh does with ebm, t went all the way till midnight and is only just up now for his next feed. Yey, just worried about oh having to get up at night and work but he will not give up his only chance each day to feed LO. Hmm may need to try rejigging the routine.

Kaelan is 10 weeks old today :) The last few weeks have gone much quicker than the first weeks.

Kaelan has still only managed to sleep 6 hours straight about 3 or 4 times since he was born. Most nights he is up every 3-4 hours to feed and during the day he feeds every 3 hours. I am sooooo sleepy! I really want a good nights sleep so bad! :(

xxx

Big hugs celene, you'll soon be getting some well deserved sleep :lol:

I had a bit of an iffy night with James.

He went down 7:15pm - 1am and then 2am - 6am. When I got up to do his 2am feed he'd done another massive poo so I was a happy bunny but I had to really clean his bum which he didn't appreciate.

6am-8am we just dozed, but James had pretty much been in his crib for 12 hours straight...

I am hoping tonight we go back to him going to bed a bit later and sleeping through a bit longer? He's already had 12oz's today and it's only 8.30!!

Wilson - HVs are a mon-fri 9-5 service, there is no out of hours provision at all, at least in my neck of the woods and I'd imagine nationally. There is a 7 day NCT breastfeeding helpline (they call you back if nobody answers) on 0300 330 0771. Ive used it and they were brilliant. Your local NCT breastfeeding counsellor may well ring you back too if you leave them a message.

I had concerns about fore milk/hindmilk when I was feeding, especially when i was told to try "super switching" (going from one breast to the other and back again frequently during feeds) to nice increase my supply. The counsellor I spoke to said that NCT wishes they could get everyone to get rid of that info about staying on one breast until drained, because it gives everyone a false idea about the hindmilk. Throughout a feed, the composition of your breast milk changes constantly, so the fat content increases almost straight away and continues to increase. So only right at the beginning is it really watery, then it will be a mix throughout. Every 2 hours is normal for a breast fed baby. J feeds at least 3 hourly during the day and he's ff!! An occasional green poo doesn't mean that Arthur isn't feeding properly every time.

Celene - hugs for feeling tired, but your routine sounds awesome to me. 3-4 hours in the night and 3 in the day is what we're striving for. Hope we are there consistently at 10 weeks - you've done something right!

thank angel for the info :) my breast nurse is coming tomorrow, she thinks im getting more foremilk than hind milk which will cause more wind, finally got an explaination, adviced me to express a bit off before a feed, and not do combi feeding because it will make it worse xx

Glad you've got it sorted Wilson!

I am about to venture out with baby as I need to distract him. He's already had 3 feeds today (1am, 6am and 9am) so at this rate he'll be doing 40oz's

It's really hard to occupy him between feeds - he'll have about an hour when he is good and doesn't mind laying out on a rug with toys / playing etc.. However he rarely naps for longer than 20 minutes so I spend the rest of the time between feeds basically trying to keep him quiet?? The last hour before his feed is always the hardest as he is so grumpy!!

He feeds every 3 hours in the daytime, but if he does that today he'll end up having an extra 2 feeds??

xxxxxx

Nat, it's not a problem if he's really hungry. J is on 6oz bottles now and he has 7 bottles a day. He doesn't finish them all, but he must be getting 35-40oz a day and he's younger than James! He's following his centile and the GP said to stop worrying about it.

If he's not napping though, are you sure he's not tired rather than hungry? We have to do all sorts to get J to nap during the day, otherwise he is so grouchy in the afternoons and evenings. He also gives us the hungry signals, but if we can manage to get him to nap he often goes another 2 hours, so he couldn't have been too hungry! Things that work for us are putting in the car seat and rocking him (assuming he hasn't been in it for long that day), a ride in the pram, rocking in the crib. He sleeps longer if we put on lullabies for him - it seems to soothe him back to sleep between cycles. We don't normally have to do any of this during the night, but he just seems too interested in his surroundings during the day and fights sleep

Well last night wasn't our best! J woke at 3:30 for his feed - he went 4.5 hrs from his dream feed, which was a record - unfortunately he had a poo during the feed which woke him up too much and then he was fussy afterwards. It took us a hour and a half to get him back to sleep. Then he woke at 6:30 for the day.

I don't quite understand why he does this early waking even if he hasn't slept as much during the night? He doesn't see to be waking for food, because he never has much if we offer him a bottle, he just cries and fusses until we get up with him. Then 9 times out if 10 he's asleep again in his basket downstairs within an hour. It's not light yet at that time, what wakes him?

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday. I've just been out for a run - it's gorgeous weather here, cold but sunny.
