**** November 2012 Mummies **** (everyone welcome)

Milk bags came, found out I'd ordered them to my mums house by accident when they turned up when I was there lol  xx

Great pic, i hope ella smiles soon, i think i might be trying to hard to make her smile lol she probley thinks im insane haha!

Im going to do bath bottle bed / bottle bed every other night now. The first bath night she went down really well then last night with no bath she was up 11-4am, iv given her a bath and a massage and she fell straight asleep without her feed, i tried everything to wake her up but had no look, im guessing she will realise soon and wake up hungry lol! x

They're the Lansinoh ones, I haven't tried them out yet though.

We've asked her Granny to have her on Tuesday, she'll ne five and a half weeks but we need some sleep. I felt ok arranging it but now I feel like an awful mother, I should be able to cope with her :/ and I don't know if being away from her will be too hard for me :( xx

We're doing bath, bottle, bed again tonight!

James is currently asleep though ??

xxxxxxxx

We had to do bottle before bath lol... Then she pood on daddy xx

Happy new year everyone!

So, we've been to the GP today and J has been prescribed gaviscon for reflux. We put the first sachet in his last bottle but I can't say I noticed any difference. Maybe it will take a few? I hope it works soon, it breaks my heart when he shrieks in pain and the crying afterwards is so sad.

In other news, I stopped expressing today, so J will be exclusively ff. I hadn't been expressing regularly enough to keep up the supply, so it had been dropping to such small amounts. I also think the reflux is worse with it because it isn't a s thick as the comfort milk. J is six weeks old today and I'm happy he was mainly breast fed for 3 weeks and had some breast milk every day to 6 weeks.

We're having trouble settling him last thing at night, which is completely knackering. We've tried settling him at 7pm, which goes OK, but he wakes after an hour or so, as with his other naps. The problem is trying to settle him for the night after the 10pm bottle. He gets really upset and cries hysterically every time we try and put him down. He won't even lie in the bed with me any more (we co-slept when I was breastfeeding). I don't get it because once we get him down the first time, he will go down after his next 2 bottles in the night without any problem. I'm hoping the gaviscon will help, but I don't really understand why this particular time is a problem! Sometimes it's taking 2-3 hours to settle him :(

Carnat - I have trouble sleeping too :(. It's so annoying, I feel so tired and I lie there thinking, why can't I sleep? I don't normally have trouble with sleeping either (before pregnancy). It's like my body thinks at 4am that I've had enough to last me for a while! It definitely doesn't suit me sleeping in short stretches. Last night I got about 6 hours total, but nothing longer than 2 hours.

littleangel- where does your lo sleep? Are you elavating lo matress? Our lo has quite bad reflux, we've tried everything! The Gaviscon didn't work for us. The things that helped us are, ranitidine medication (1.25ml 30mins before a feed 3x per day), cow & gate comfort milk and infacol before every feed.
If we miss the infacol or ranitadine even once, we see a huge difference in his reflux. The comfort milk is also low lactose which means less stomach acid and less wind. Often wind or colic and reflux are hand in hand if you can manage one problem the other rectifys too.
We also burp him 4 times during a 6oz bottle, and keep him laying upright on his left side against our chests after a feed for 30 mins after. Apparently keeping baby on his left keeps the exit valve at the stomach lower than the entrance valve and so helps keep milk down.
We used to elevate his mattress with folded towels under his mattress but I recently noticed that it's become bumpy, so I now put books on the bar at the head of his rocker for his basket so the whole basket is lifted at the head but his mattress is flat.
Taylor is also put to sleep on his left side, does wriggle onto his back eventually, but this helps keep the acid from coming up.
Hope this helps. Xx

Right James is asleep in the crib so I am off to join him (not in the crib of course LOL!!)

Night ladies

xxxxxxx

Glad you got him in the crib! Hope he sleeps well for you xx

Operation freeze milk is go BTW - got 5oz in my freezer and still a days worth left in the fridge. I'm supposed to be sleeping but I need to be up to express soon, whoops lol.

My parents were commenting today on how much more alert C is now - she's (almost) smiling and she turns her head towards sounds, and is holding her own head up nearly all the time (she gets a bit wobbly when she's tired) xx

Amazing isn't it how strong they can be. Chloe started to smile two days ago and her head is so strong. She also thinks she can have a go at standing and pushes up on her legs and gets very frustrated when I tell her no!

Cathy does this too - she keeps kicking me in the tummy though and throws herself backwards when I'm trying to wind her lol, crazy little girl...

I can't imagine what Cathy will look like when she starts smiling, she's so solemn its like a smile wouldn't belong on her face lol xx

We didn't have a good night!

James grunted and fidgeted in his sleep from 10am - 2am, then we had a bottle and he reluctantly went back to sleep from 4am - 6am. I ended up taking him into bed with me 6am - 8am.

We seem to be going backwards with each day?

Off to get weighed soon, then going to see my sister and her boys and then off to visit my friend and her little boy and girl.

Phew!

I am so buggererd! Kaelan now sleeps a solid 4 hours from 10pm-2am (not long but better than it was) But after the 2am feed I then express and I have not been able to get back to sleep after expressing I am still awake tossing and turning by te time he wakes for his 5-6am feed. No wonder I keep getting sick :(

Anyone have any tip for getting back to sleep after expressing in night?

Celene I'm in the same boat as you - Cathy normally goes down after 20 mins then I express but I'm using a single pump so it takes up to an hour resulting in me being wide awake (and she'll want feeding again in an hour and a half anyway) :( xx

i had a fantastic night, put arthur down at 11pm slept till 2.40am bf him then, daddy changed his bum at 5 as he got up to get ready for his flight, but arthur went back to sleep till 7.30am for a feed, then had another hour in bed then went down till 8.30. i feel fresh, cooked bfast for me, arthur is feed, dressed and bum changed, washing done, pots washed, house work done and its only 10.30am happppoyyyy xx

Wow Wilson well done you! And well done Arthur!

Cathy will not settle this morning (although we slept in until 9 kinda) and she is wide awake!! xx

James is 10lbs 4oz now!!

Little fatty

He's still in 25th centile and they are very happy with his progress.

The HV is happy for me to give him water and said if he is to remain constipated [and is in pain] pop to the Dr for some Lactulose??

I was so worried I'd been overfeeding him it was a huge compliment to be told 'keep doing what you are doing'

xxxxxxxxxx

Glad you got some reassurance Nat :) xx

I've just ordered myself an Ameda Lactaline double breast pump with some of my xmas moolah as even though the Medela Swing is fabulous I am spending up to 6h a day expressing  and I got 50 more booby milk bags from Home Bargains for £4 woohoo :D xx
