Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

What do they do in a hycosy again? My first HSG was so painful they couldn't do it, after laparoscopy it must have opened a bit as when I had iui it felt weird but not painful and then 2nd HSG they were able to do. After that, ET was easy! It's not a natural thing having a tube pushed through your cervix!!

Think HyCoSy is similar to HSG but HSG gives you x ray pictures I think..

Just googled HyCoSy. The worst part for me was entering the cervix and also when they started to inject the saline. It was over quick though and had hardly no pain after.

HyCoSy is essentially a two stage test. It involves an internal examination very much like a smear test, then a very thin tube is passed into the womb. The tube has a small balloon on the tip which is inflated to seal the womb entrance. Once the tube is in place the womb is scanned to check the position of the tube is correct.

Small amount of sterile saline fluid is injected into the catheter to examine the uterine cavity. This part of the examination is called Saline Infusion Sonography. Contrast medium is then injected into the catheter. This solution is used to examine whether the fallopian tubes are open or blocked.

It sounds exactly the same! I hated HSG! Embryo transfer isn't like that at all because once the catheter is in you don't feel anything else. And if you are thinking about your embryos you might not mind a small pain when it goes in.

I know. I am not trying to scare anyone since it was bearable for me and not everyone finds it painful but I do think they should offer something stronger for the pain during these scans. As mentioned earlier I also got so angry with my doctor who basically said I had a low pain threshold since I was in pain.. Great motivational talk there Doc.

A questions for all ladies having used Gonasi to trigger, is there anything specific I need to think about? Will I still use 2 different needles, one for mixing and drawing up and then change to the other?

Thanks!

Yes I am now Codeine's biggest advocate for HSGs, Hycosys, Endometrial Scratches, ERA tests or anything similar!

I took ibuprofen prior to my hycosy but still found it painful (or very uncomfortable to the point where I had to focus on my breathing to avoid moving or asking to squeeze the nurse's hand). It was ok until he put the liquid through... then came the pain! Apparently it hurts even more if your tubes are blocked :-/ That didn't last long and I walked out wondering what all the fuss was about... About an hour later I got REALLY bad AF type pain and I was confined to the sofa for hours. Ha!

I had no idea what the ET would entail but it sounds fine - thank you. I was fine with IUI.

I had my meeting with HR today. They are going to support me through it and I can have whatever time off I need. It won't be counted as sickness, I just need to let them know. Pheewww. I was so worried. Xxx

ET felt very similar to a smear test. Not painful just uncomfortable, but to watch them place the embryo in on the screen you soon forget whatsgoing on down there!! x

That's such a relief about HR Phoenixgirl!
ET was worse than a smear because the tube goes further but I am used to it now! It is lovely to see your embryos on the screen and imagine that they will be your little babies. Its not quite the same for us now though as we now have 3 embryo scans but none of them made it. :( I was even planning on coping with triplets last time but we didn't get any babies. You welcome them and hope that they will stay.

Awwww. You can't help but see them as your babies! DH was looking at an article about the scratch yesterday and he said he didn't realise the chances of success were so low. I told him yeah, I always knew it was about 40% but it's much higher than IUI. But he somehow worked it out as 1 in 8000!!!! I had to persuade him he was wrong and there was no way the NHS would fund something was successful 1 in 8000 goes! He's the one that's good at maths as well!

Where did he get that figure from?! It works out as 1 in 4 I think. In that article about the scratch it said 1 couple in 4 will be successful each time. Do you know what he thought it was before? Most of our friends who knew about our ivf thought that once the embryos had been created for us it was a given! They thought you came away from the clinic pregnant and didn't realise you have to wait and take a test!

It would be great if you were pregnant after transfer, so much easier!

Well done phonixgirl! Bet it feels much more relaxing now, my boss is really supportive as well even though i have $ target to meet still!

Please tell me im ok! I accidently overslept and did my last buserelin and fsh injection about 1 hour late this morning :( is it ok?

I'm sure that's fine. We did ours any time between 10.30 and 11.30pm and once did it at 11.45 as we were with family and couldn't escape! Is it trigger tonight?

Thanks, might have been almost 1,5 hours... Hope thats fine!!

Yes, trigger at 9 pm. When did you start the cyclogest?

That probably means your EC will be at about 9am, what time do you have to be there?
Start cyclogest day after EC. You have to do it rectally on embryo transfer day as it can be messy, I switched to doing it rectally all the time as it stays in better! No cyclogest for me this time yet though as no transfer this cycle.

Yes, think its 9 and have to be there for 8 am. No eating and drinking after midnight sunday!

Have done a couple of hysteroscopy procedures privately early this year but assuming this procedure wont be as fancy since with NHS😊. Felt like checking into a hotel going privately with all sort of nice things waiting for you ( private room with own toilet, massive TV, big food menu to choose from etc). Little different now but cant wait! Can choose between GA or sedation and i want to be put to sleep for sure!!

Just realized the time is changing over the weekend so now im thinking the nurse did not calculate the time right for the trigger!! Will have to try to reach them!!

Sedation was fine for EC as you are still asleep and not aware of anything, and you recover more quickly than from a general.
Yes it was nice to have a cosy private room to recover in with a tv, bathroom and menu! At my local clinic we still paid privately but you just recover on a comfy chair tipped back behind a curtain with a sandwich in a packet and a drink from the machine in reception! I wonder what you get if you are NHS at our London hospital?

Just called nurse and she said to still take the trigger 9 pm even if clocks change, so scared it will be weong by one hour now! 😔

Actually really worried now! If i take it 9 pm tonight it will be 37 hours until ec if its done 9 Monday! Nurse said 9 pm tonight but really worried! How long did you wait between trigger and ec?

Mine was 37 hours, trigger at midnight Wednesday, EC at 1 Friday. It only has to be roughly 36 hours. The nurse will have told everyone the same so if they were concerned they would have called everyone. Is there an emergency number to put your mind at ease?
