Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

Haha, exactly! My DH is not very educated.. He did not understand why i complained first until recently when i explained how invasive it is.. He had been thinking it was a normal ultrasound all the time!

Hycosy is the worst they should offer you sedation or gas and air or something along those lines!!

Did he think it was an ultrasound on your tummy?! People have no idea! I wonder if some husbands go to the 6 week baby scan and are shocked by the probe etc? Or is that one a tummy one? My colleague was talking about a client paying for a scan so I said "a baby scan?" & she said "well it wouldn't be a brain scan!" as if I was stupid so I told her there are other kinds, I'd had loads and none were baby scans or brain scans!!

He was with me in the room but he thought it was a normal ultrasound such as the one to check lining or follicles.. :) i told him a long time after they actually go beyond that during the HyCoSy and a small tube goes all the way into the uterus etc. and i was so surprised he had not understood that. why would i otherwise scream a little!!! Haha, bless him

I suppose they can't imagine what might painful for us and the probe could be painful.

Forgot to answer your question about hot baths and showers, you aren't supposed to have one the evening after egg collection, maybe in case you feel dizzy, I wasn't told not to this time and always have a luke warm wash/shower sitting in the bath to freshen up and leave the door open a bit. After transfer you should only have warm ones so you keep your temperature stable, and no jacuzzis! I think its ok during stims but I wouldn't fancy it if I felt a bit drugged up and bloated etc. What do people think?

Thanks! Have heard that you shouldn't during stims since it might affect the ovaries during stims but might not be true. I only like really hot baths and saunas so guess I can say goodbye to that for I hope 9 months! :)

Hope everything went ok today Blueflower!

Yeah you don't want to cook your ovaries!

Today went really well! I had to leave at the crack of dawn to get to London but was early and took my first Codeine at 9.50, was shown into the room at 9.55 but the Dr was in a meeting and didn't turn up till about 10.20 so I took my 2nd codeine about 10.05. It wasn't the handsome Dr, phew! It was the Chinese one I had for my ERA and he was very polite. He and the nurse were insulting each other, maybe to put me at ease and he had asked about my journey and I said the train was busy and she said there were too many Chinese people in London!! (She was Malaysian.) He thought we were doing Embryo Transfer and she had to correct him! Then I was left on the table whilst they checked my notes to see why I was having it on that day. He was going to wait whilst she looked but she wouldn't let him stay behind with me in a compromising position!

Anyway the Codeine worked a treat (thanks Dee) my head felt floaty and I hardly felt a thing! It was also much quicker than last time. On my way out I saw a couple come out of our Consultant's office and the girl was crying, I hate seeing things like that it makes me want to cry.

I was a bit concerned having the scratch so soon after the EC and they asked if I was ok but it was fine and no more painful procedures for me now!

Well done Blueflower :-) you did it like a pro! I will definitely be using the codeine on Wednesday then...

I can't do really hot baths and I definitely wouldn't fancy one drugged up and woozy.

It must have been awful seeing that girl crying. It is heartbreaking because you know exactly how they feel and how much they want a baby.

My counselling appointment came through today. I have it 2 days before the IVF starts. I am seeing HR tomorrow too with my manager. This is all starting to get very real. X

I'm glad it went well blueflower nows the easy part!!!
It is horrible seeing others cry, I hate being the one crying knowing you have to walk through everyone especially when you see first timers
Not long not Phonixgirl what's the date to start IVF?

4th November my cycle starts. I am having the scratch on Wednesday ready for it. All go go go from here xxx

Fab news ladies.
Lovely news that things are moving forward for everyone.

God luck with your meeting tomorrow Phonixgirl xx

Great Blueflower, all done now! No pain at all? I am nervous about ET so need some strong pain killers for then I assume.. Did it bother you the doctor didn't even know the procedure he was doing at first?!! :)

Not long now phonixgirl, must be nice to read the reassuring post from Blueflower about painless procedure.

Had scan again today and ready for EC Monday! Had 9 follicles between 17-23mm I think, about 5-6 over 15mm, about 5-6 over 11mm and all the rest smaller ( too small I assume ). Will the smaller ones ( 12-16mm ) have a chance to grow so I get more than 9 eggs? Nurse said they might but if you have any experience that would be great :)

Have to take the trigger tomorrow and nervous I will mess up! Assume its a similar procedure as the FSH injections?

ET doesn't hurt at all unless they sometimes have trouble getting through your cervix? Full bladder used to be uncomfortable but they let you have a semi-full one now.
It did a bit but he had fitted me in as an extra, there was an ET next and he'd just come from a meeting so can be forgiven! DH said we nearly got someone else's embryos!!
A couple of the medium follicles will probably grow before Monday especially after the trigger, nurse told me not to assume the perfect sized ones would be the ones they get the eggs from as they grow at different rates. I had 18 good sized ones last Wednesday but 13 eggs collected.
Is your Ovitrelle the pen or pre-filled syringe?

Thanks, so all your 18 were over 17 at trigger day? There were not eggs in all 18 then?

I am triggering tomorrow so assume the ones around 14-15 will grow a bit more and have a chance but then the ones over 20 might be over... I would be so happy if I got 10-12!

I am taking Gonasi for trigger and the pack says to draw up one vial of water and mix with 2 powders and then inject.. So similar to what I do today I assume! Not sure about the syringe though but perhaps I can use the same 2 ml ones I use for FSH. So nervous now!

Ooo how exciting. You will be fine I am sure, Maria :-)

I will be using the pen xx

Thanks, hope so!!

I cant keep stimming much longer since I feel like I'm exploding and my E2 yesterday was over 7000 ( think that's high )! Last stim tomorrow morning and then trigger in the evening. I think the problem I have is that even though I have a lot of follicles they all seems to be growing very unevenly so might not end up with that many Monday!

x

I think 18 were over 10mm on the last scan and probably about 8 of those over 15mm and the rest smaller. Its normal to grow at different rates. They usually go into all the follicles they can for EC so maybe some didn't have eggs in? My estradiol levels were fairly high so most must have done.
It sounds as if you will have plenty, the bigger ones may slow down and the smaller ones may catch up, I doubt you'd get 25 but I should think at least 10!

Thanks! And thanks for the info on ET. The reason why I thought it might be painful is because of my HyCoSy scan. It was actually really painful when they put in the tube though the cervix and they had difficulties then having to use the clamp thing.. :(. Anyhow, I am sure it will be better now. Should I at least take some pain killers before?

Thanks :)

In that case maybe it would. Maybe let them know in advance. They can do it under anaesthetist if necessary. Its quite gentle, have you had IUI before? You'd probably have to stick to paracetamol in case the codeine is still in your system when the embryos implant.

Maybe I was unlucky but will let them know Monday. I have heard the cervix is more open and high during ET so less painful, perhaps my painful scan was done when cervix was very closed. I assume ET is overall a much more pleasant experience since you look forward to having the embryos transferred so you forget the pain!
