Labour and Birth - Things the Movies don't tell us!!

Did anyone have the belly button needle? Clexane (sp?) I think its called, wow, that stung x

i agree with stunned! my labour started the sunday before my due date (which ws weds) and he arrived the sunday after!! that much pain for that long wasnt fun however i do remember being told that i was 5 cm dilated after just paracetamol and codeine and thinking how easy the next 5 cm would be pfft........

belly button needle????

i do feel ive missed out on the bum pill lol

Belly button needles sound horrible!! I didn't have one, what are they for?!

Oh I just thought of something else . After the birth you may have a contraction feeling for a while as your uterus goes back to normal , hot water bottles really help . As the hormones leave your body you may even have morning sickness again (apparently its rare but I had it and freaked out a bit ) .You'll loose weight within a week of the birth too :)

Because I had an unplanned c section I had this so didn't get clots in my uterus or something, horrible x

I didnt get any contration feelings once he was out! Soo glad I started the bum pill debate! haha. I had a 2nd degree tear and had the bum pill! Midwife said Ive just got a tablet here to help with swelling, asked my mom to turn away and pushed it up with no warning!!!! YOWSERS!! xx

Yep, i had a bum pill! Same as pudds, 2nd degree tear and i was not expecting bum action on top of everything else... Is nowhere safe?! Haha!

Seriously though, despite all the 'scary' sounding stuff, i was absolutely of the mindset that i wanted to know as much as possible beforehand, knowledge is definitely power in my eyes, and i feel like i coped better with labour for it. I actually enjoyed my labour and got through without hardly any pain relief (just 20 mins g&a before i started pushing, and a lil bit more when they were sorting out the aftermath with a needle and thread!)

So ladies, take on board all these things that could (but may not) happen and just know that it is still the most amazing thing you will ever do, labour is the most natural thing in the world...listen to your body, it knows exactly what to do and when... And hold onto the fact that your beautiful baby is more than worth anything that labour can throw at you :) x

Does everyone get the finger up the bum check or is it just if they think you may need it?

Some of these posts made me laugh (bum pill) and Im glad you posted them as although Im petrified (bordering phobia) on giving birth its good to read experiences and how each one differs.

I never got a finger up the bum just a pill lol.. she told me she was going to do it but i never felt anything i think it was numb where she'd numbed me for the episotomy...

belly button needles sounds unpleasant...ouchh

Beth if you were numb you may have had the finger up the bum! lmao. My mate had epidural and she didnt know until after they had done the bum check! hehe.

I think if you tear they always do the bum check to make sure its not all the way through. It is seriously such a small part of the whole experience though so dont worry yourselves!! xx

What a brilliant thread! I've just read throught the whole thing either killing myself laughing or squirming in my seat! None of the above has put me off...as some of you have said 'knowledge is power'. I want to know everything; the good, the bad and the ugly

Best thread - honestly, it's amazing!

Have totally cracked up at this and am actually really looking forward to it - it's a great adventure to meet my teeny one and I can't wait; bring it on! Bum pill and everything  x

When it's happening, it's so much different :flower: The pain is terrible, but bareable because you know it's for good reason, believe me once you get to 40 weeks you'll be begging for your labour to start  xx
