***July 2019 Mummies***

Ahh mamawannabe our 20 week is on the same day! How lovely. Can' wait to find out what you are having.
At my 18 week mw app she listen to the heartbeats and the girl was 128bpm and the boy 154bpm which completely goes against the heart rate theory.

That's exciting we have our scans on the same day! I definitely can't wait to find out what I'm having!

On that point, not trying to cause any issues here, but just wondering what everyone thinks of the whole "you can't find out baby's gender, only their sex" argument? I don't really see any difference between the two terms to be honest... but see a lot of ladies jumping down each others' throats if asking about finding out baby's gender.

Also, I've started to feel baby moving even more now, I was only feeling in the evenings or morning while lying in bed before, but today sitting in the office, I can feel the little one wriggling about inside me! Makes me so happy, really loving this feeling! I'm sitting like an idiot smiling away at my desk haha.

Well I always confuse the two terms in my head so I unintentionally offend people by mistake!

My brother corrected me and gave me a mini lecture. I suppose it's the whole gender neutral - sex organs don't determine gender debate.
Neither term offend or insult me as 10 years ago it wouldn't have been thought twice about.

That's great you've started feeling movements! Its so special. X

I’ve not even thought about it. As far as I know, my baby has boy bits so I will continue to call him ‘him’ unless he tells me to call him something else when he is older. Is that a wrong view? I don’t know. I think it’s all genuinely down to individual thoughts and preferences.

So I should have had my first consultant appointment today...got the time mixed up and missed it! Ooops!

Yep I don't want to offend anyone by saying the wrong thing, but just wondering what you ladies thought of the issue!

Oops sugarpop! Hope you managed to reschedule ok!

I have my first group antenatal appointment / class this afternoon, hoping to meet a lovely group of ladies! :)

Gender and sex can be such touchy issues to some.

We're going to raise our kid as the gender their sex is, but leave things open in the sense that if they tell us they are the opposite gender and are still adament about it in their teens, then we will support them to transition (if that's what they choose).

I'm skeptical about raising a child completely gender neutral myself, but no judgement on those that go that route.

I also get that gender is fluid, but I really get annoyed with the extremist end who change their gender and pronouns sometimes daily. Yes your gender may change slowly over time, but don't think it's a switch from one day to the next. Some go as far as to say raising a child as the gender their sex is should be considered child abuse. (which I think is silly)

Hope you can get your specialist appointment rearranged for soon Sugarpop.

Mine will be raised as a girl as thats what she will be born as.

Heres mine at 17+2

Well we will find out the sex and raise them based on that. Then whoever they grow up to be will be and we will support that whatever. I feel the not determining gender has gone a bit mad really and I'm not sure it's responsible to make that decision or ostracise a child by raising them that way but I guess it could be argued the other way too. I saw a fb post today about whether people should vaccinate their babies or not and I had to do my best to stop a rant at them. Anyway, moving on.

Had bloods today to check for iron as I'm feeling pants so will see what happens tomorrow. Mw chased consultant and they rang me today to get me to go on Thursday as they should have seen me already but seems I slipped through the system.

What happens at the consultant appointment? I'm guessing they tell me I'm high risk and not sure what else. Do they do any scans or tests? Literally no idea. Lol

My first consultant appt was a bit of a waste of time.
They said I was high risk due to 2.
Told me that the babies will determine what birth I have.
That there will be more people in the room and about the neonatal unit. I told her that I am usually one of those people in the room so she didn't go into detail.
Started me on asprin and said see you in 8 weeks at 24 weeks after my first growth scan.

Had my consultant appointment this afternoon, she is lovely (she looks about 15 yrs old! But it lovely). Explained that they will see me every 4 weeks from 28, and aim to deliver around 37 which can be vaginal assuming the lower baby is point head down. So we will see.
I asked lots about epidural and risk of c section. She said they will offer the epidural but I don't have to have it so I guess I will see how I cope with the pain)if I end up being induced then probably not very well, lol).

Also as I'm high risk (old and fat) I'll be starting on fragmin injections at 28 weeks. I can't even do my own blood sugar at work so I'll have to work on that. Funny as I have no problem giving injections or cannulating my patients!

Then best of all, she decided to do a quick scan rather than a doppler so I saw both babies ❤️❤️. They were both wriggling all over the place, one decided to moon us but with legs shut so you couldn't tell the sex, lol. She said she wasn't worried about their sizes but to wait for the anomaly scan on 28th to tell for sure.
It was such a relief to see them, I can't even begin to tell you. And to me, they looked similar in size and th sacs too. At 12 weeks one definitely looked smaller but today I couldn't tell so I feel so relieved. Feel a little guilty DH couldn't be there (couldn't get out of uni) but he will be there next week. She asked if I wanted to know the sex today and I said I wanted to wait for him next week.

Finally starting to seem real
I still feel like crap most days and am exhausted but seeing those little wrigglers makes it worth it

She also said at 28 weeks with twins it's the same as being 40 weeks with a singleton so that makes sense to me as to why I feel paints already at 19. Beyond 28 sounds like a nightmare!

I'm so happy for you that it went well! Sounds like your consultant is great! Much more informative than mine.

Its crazy how care varies from pct. I've been told 38 weeks for induction and I must have an epidural! We start growth scans at 24 weeks too.
Such amazing news you got to see them and have a scan! Bet that has reassured you no end!

I'm also really please she said that about 28 weeks being the same as a 40 week singleton. Im 20 weeks and feeling poop. The second tri is meant to be the time you are full of energy and skipping up corridors. I feel like a drowning slug just keeping my head above water and my 4 year old entertained!

I don't know how you cope with another one to look after already! Super women!
I hoped they'd say my iron was low and then it would account for the exhaustion but nope, iron all fine. I said I'm not the first women to be pregnant, or pregnant with twins but I feel shattered all the time and the sickness is still there. She just said that it's common multiples have to take time off work and finish earlier. But we still have to get to 30 odd weeks first! Ages!

I think the second trimesters feeling fine is a myth, I really do.lol

Oh no! I'm sure you can rearrange. They forgot about me and only gave me an appointment two days ago

That's lovely to hear that everything is going so well Radleycat!

Of course it's expected you'll feel more tired and exhausted with a twin pregnancy. Will you, and Emmacharlotte too with twins, be thinking to start maternity leave quite early?

How about everyone else with the single pregnancies, what are we all thinking about maternity leave start? I'm hoping I can work up as close as possible and start leave around 38 or 39 weeks if I can... am I being naive that I can keep going that long? I have an exam to sit when I'll be 31 weeks so I hope I'll still be feeling good at that point.

It must have been really nice to see them both on the scan Radleycat, especially when you weren't expecting a scan! I wish we could all get scans more often to keep us reassured and stop us from going crazy to be honest! Although now that I'm feeling movement and bump is making an appearance, I'm starting to feel a bit more reassured baby is still in there and growing.

Lovely that you are feeling movement. Sometimes I think I can but I'm not sure. Last night I was sure I could see my tummy moving a little bit, which was weirdly reassuring. Can't wait for the next scan now, although I'm not most excited about a TV to check cervix length. Oh well.

Mat leave seems to be different for everyone. Some friends have worked right until the pop and others stop earlier. I see the point of working as long as possible to make the most of the mat leave (husband keeps pointing this out to me) and my response is it is about how I am feeling now, not in a year! It would be nice to have a bit of time off before the arrival though? Maybe use some leave?

If we are looking at 37wk delivery (which is end of June) Then I'm going to go off about 4 weeks before that I think. So that would be around End of may. My 40th is 20 may so maybe I'll try and be off from then . Happy birthday, 32 weeks pregnant and the size of a house! Lol. My graduation is at 36wks and I really want to go to that.

Although I'm saying all this, its not really under my control is it.

Are 20 weeks scans coming up for everyone?

My 20 week scan is the second week in March. I ofcourse will be 21 weeeks because my trust can’t get anything on time

My due date is 23rd July but with my diabetes I am likely to be induced early at 38 weeks and that’s providing the baby isn’t too big. That means my actual due date is likely to be the second week in July. I am hoping to work up until the end of June / first week of July. However that depends if someone can drive me to work and back. I am only 5ft and my belly is getting closer and closer to the steering wheel of my car so I’ve no idea how long I can even drive for!

Chauffeur for sugarpop! I did think about that too. I'm 5'10 and legs are long but googling twin bumps makes me think there will be no hope for me reaching the wheel either!

Maybe someone should do a taxi firm for Preggo ladies

Definitely a profitable business idea!!! I should be ok for the end of June as Hubby is leaving the military and is on leave from 18th June till September. It’s just the time in between that’s giving me big worries! I’m ‘chunky’ anyway but looking at the wheel getting closer and closer definitely reminds me that baby is growing!

I keep hoping they say my iron is low so I feel justification for feeling so exhausted. But nope still good!! My graduation was 4 days past my due date with my son, I woke up contracting 5 mins apart, figured I had lots of time and went. Straight after the ceremony I collected my hospital bag went in and delivered my son shortly later!
I've had 2 cervix scans already and my third next week. It's great because they do an abdo scan after to see the babies.

Mamawannabe My work are already asking me when I am likely to go off! Its crazy. At my work most people go off between 32-34 weeks! They do use annual leave to make their maternity start a bit later.
I worked until 36 with my singleton and took 2 weeks annual leave and that was considered late.

I'm not sure how long I'll be able to do 13 hours on my feet constantly in the heat of icu. The only time you sit down is on your break so it's pretty full on.

I have my 20 week scan on Monday! I can't wait to have reasurrance everything is ok and crack on with buying more and decorating the nursery!
X

Sugarpop maybe a new business venture for you! Haha.
I know twin mums that have to stop driving at 32 weeks!!!
