Morning ladies - quick-ish update for you!
Well after planning to call it a night yesterday after the useless irregular contractions I'd been having all day failed to progress to anything, my contractions started to get very regular at about 9.30pm

All I can say is "ouch!" They suddenly started coming every 3-4 mins and were lasting a minute and boy did I know about it. So after a day of false starts followed by this onset of intense discomfort, we rang the hospital. After suggesting I have
another bath & some paracetamol, they said to go in and be checked.
Got there and saw a lovely MW, Jackie - who incidentally said I had a beautiful birth plan

- and she checked me over: I was still
only 1cm

Al and I totally gutted but she said as the contractions had only been regular for 2ish hours at the point, she hadn't expected them to do much. She gave me some more paracetamol and codeine (I think) and said come home, get some food, and rest - she said the codeine should take the edge off the contractions to allow me to at least rest and luckily it did. Al also managed to get a few hours too so hopefully he's feeling a bit fresher.
So we drove home, got a MacD's and then of all things to happen as we parked up, drove over a nail and punctured a tire...

(Yesterday really was a massive pain in the arse). So Al wanted to go out at 1am and attempt to change it but at that point my contractions were still very regular and I didn't want to be in the house on my own while he was out in the dark faffing with the bloody tire... So we left it and he's out there now trying to change it and if not, there's a garage literally opposite our house or we could use our other car when the time comes to go to the hospital. What a bloody nightmare.
The contraction pain is absolutely breathtaking. I can honestly understand now why people on OBEM scream, wriggle, beg for drugs as it is seriously intense. I am breathing through them and really want to stick to my "no epidural/pethidine" but I think I will honestly play that by ear
Lander - I think your suggestion of me getting on all fours really started them off so I'm blaming you for the serious amount of discomfort I'm in!

But honestly, if they start to become regular again (every 3 mins, lasting a min or shorter) I'm not sure how much I can cope with here; when they come, they're really coming. So far this morning, every 7-8 mins and lasting over a minute - I've had three whilst writing this update...!
Gonna get in the bath soon and take some paracetamol and then get back on all fours as that certainly helped to get them going and get them regular last night. Please say a little prayer for us ladies that it is today (please God) as this is certainly not what either of us had in mind for the birth of our first LO - we were so smug that our pregnancy had been so straightforward and that it was bound to be the same for actually having the baby, but oh no...! All this will be really funny next week no doubt, and of course baby will be so incredibly worth it, but at the moment as we now move into day 3, we're just a little bit fed up!
More as & when xxx
