***** January 2015 Mummy's *****

Well scam went okay, babys kidneys still measuring much the same, so no worse which is good! Fluid levels are back up a wee bit compared to last time when they were too low, and baby's growth is looking nearer the normal level again, as previously was measuring too small. So all in all not too bad a result :) another scan in two weeks to keep an eye on progress of kidneys and growth. Now just a flight home, it's been a long day. X

Lovely news Kiwi, sounds as positive as it could be!

Lots of R&R for you when you get home

I know I was quite surprised to be honest. She wrote it on my notes too "needs to exercise more and eat healthy." I do eat healthy but I don't exercise as it causes so much pain atm. I don't know if you have growth charts in England but here they measure your belly every 2 weeks and mark it on the growth chart. I'm always way above where I should be but I don't think doing a bit more exercise is going to help lol. X

That's not good. How is exercise going to change your fundal height :-/

I've done no exercise at all other than nesting (clearing out a room completely filled with boxes and crap), just don't have the energy or inclination, plus I can only walk so far without my bladder getting full and when it's like that, walking becomes really painful

I was thinking the same thing, fundal height doesn't have much to do with exercise. I lost a stone at the begining of my last pregnancy from sickness and I weighed less after the baby was born than before I got pregnant but I still measured weeks ahead for my fundal height. This time I didn't loose as much weight but I've measured large from very early so it seems just to be the way my body carries the baby. Everything is normal on the scans.

Certainly, shame av got a 11 hour shift at work tomorrow, but I guess that's the way it goes haha! X

Glad all went ok kiwi- well that it wasnt any worse anyway! What did they say about the kidneys measurements if you don't mind me asking? What effect does this have? I know they mentioned something about dilation of kidneys during my last scan xx

Hi kiwi, glad that your news was reassuring. Good luck with the shift tomorrow, 11 hours - urgh!! xx

All sounding positive Kiwi, glad it went as well as possible, must be exhausting for you travelling for all the appointments!

Great news Kiwi! Hope your putting your feet up once your home!

Gosh my back and feet hurt so much today!
Definitely making my DH give my back a rub tonight.
Really excited as we are decorating our DD, now DD&DS bedroom on Wednesday. DH has 2 days off and DD is staying over night with nannie and grandad as we do it, so bonus night off for us aswell! :-)
Really weird calling it the 'kids' bedroom! (2 bed house livers here, won't be for too much longer hopefully!)
Really looking forward to having it all done as her room has been a mess since we stripped her old boarder off and took curtains/light shade away.
Using matching pink and blue bunting for each of their 'side' along with wall stickers and semi matching bed linen (thank god for gingham print!)
Will have to share some photos once it's all done. Fingers crossed it looks as good as is does in my head! :-)

Thanks for al the support girls :)

our baby's kidneys were detected at the 20 week scan, we were told they were dilated and that we were going to have to be kept a close eye on, the kidneys and the fluid levels around baby are related, as the fluid is made up of the baby peeing, so good fluid levels are a good sign. The dilation refers to water or fluid backing up into the kidney possibly due to a blockage but we are yet to find out this cause as they say they will only know once baby is here and they can test, by placing dye into the bladder via a catheter, to locate the problem. In our case this will more than likely have to be corrected by an operation. But will be continually assessed by kidney scans once baby is born and it will also be on long term antibiotics to keep infection at bay. The normal kidneys would measure 4mm but anything under 5mm is classified as normal. My baby has both kidneys affected which is called bilateral, so that makes it more of a problem. Baby's right kidney is the worst measuring 18mm so a severe case and the left is measuring 7mm so a moderate case. The way the severity is defined is anything over 5mm upto 6.5mm is mild, 6.5mm to 10mm is moderate, and over 10mm is severe. They have said that many mild cases and some moderate will correct without much treatment and would only need monitoring, but the severe cases are more of a worry and will need medical intervention to sort the problem. It also depends on whether the baby has unilateral (meaning one) or bilateral (meaning both) are affected.
Sorry to write and ramble so much, never very good at explaining things, hope I haven't worried you too much as it really does all depend on the individual baby. If you have any questions, feel free to ask as I can try to help. But I am only going off my own experience and what the doctors have told me. But am happy to try explain.

Wow kiwi 18 is v high! Bless you going through all of that. I'm having regular scans too and know how stressful it can be - we know about our baby's heart condition since the 20 week scan and now they're mentioning possibly a blockage too - but think ours is in the oesphagus but they definitely mentioned his kidneys too so I'm so grateful to you for explaining your situation- I do hope you didn't think I was being nosy! Thats interesting you explained that cos it makes sense to me now as they were mentioning the fluid was controlled by baby last week and that when there's a problem with baby this goes askew. Do you have excess fluid? They've diagnosed me with polyhydraminos and I think this is related to the blockage problem..

Going on what you've said I think our two have the same sort of issue but yours is ability to let out water (peeing) and mine is keeping it in (swallowing).. If that makes sense!

How you coping with all of this? I'm so nervous about surgery after birth - thinking of him being so tiny and needing anesthetic.. Don't mean to be negative by the way but it's so good to meet someone in the same boat (not that in happy you're going through this..you know what I mean..) god sorry for the long ramble to you!

Big hugs to you and your little one xx

I don't think your being mosey at all, it's like you said its nice to know there is someone else out there who knows what your going through in a sense. And truthfully I don't deal with it as well as I make out, I try to be strong for everyone around me, but 9 times out of 10 I am breaking down inside as I feel nobody around me understands. My mum has been my biggest support through it all, without her I don't know how I would cope. Am the same as you worrying about everything that's going to happen after birth and how something so small and delicate will manage through such serious medical treatment, but I also have to keep reassuring myself that baby will be in the best care and everything that can be done will be.
You certainly seem to have had a lot of rough news too, and I feel for you and your baby, and only wish the best outcome for you too! My fluid levels are actually on the lower side and baby is measuring smaller too, I assume that could go in line with the case of our baby's having different problems between swallowing and peeing possibly!? At 20 weeks when I had my first scan at the hospital south I was informed that the fluid levels were on the boarder line for serious decisions, thankfully by the next scan two weeks after the fluid was looking more promising. So each day I do feel blessed for that.
Again I am rambling too, sorry but it's nice to have someone like you say. And again annoying else feel free to talk :) love to you two! And best wishes. Xxx

On another not that is exciting and scary that we are getting so close. Because even thought I was an original January mummy I am now hovering between with dates being that am the 31st. It's all coming so fast.

eeeek! Thanks for the update SaraLouise :) I have a really strong feeling, no idea why, but I feel like this little one will be putting in an early appearance and may end up being a December baby!

Hope everyone is keeping well. I have a terrible stomach bug. My tummy is making noises that sound like the horns to call the demons back to hell, so I feel so sorry for my poor little boy in there being disturbed by it all!

It's crazy to think some of you will actually be December Mum's - that is next month

I was 9 days late first time (it all kicked off when I was 6 days late though)

Fully expecting to be overdue again, although it will be just my luck that I have an early baby what with me working so close to due date.

Jan and Kiwi, I can only imagine how daunting it all is to know that your little ones are going to be facing treatment after birth and needing an extra bit of help but I am a massive believer that knowledge is power.
