***Jan & Feb Mummy and Baby***

Exciting Jolly xx glad OH is up for more babies ;)

Glad you had a good night Carnat xx means everything xx

We aren't doing much went out for dinner yesterday we are all going for a map now Tyler and Oisín are fast asleep xx

We are off fora dog walk in a bit to get Alfie used to the sling. He's been in his own room for a week and doing well.

The weather is beautiful so maybe a BBQ later :)

I keep forgetting to use my wrap with mollie- we've got a lovely Hana wrap but I always just take her out in the buggy. It's supposed to make it easier having her in the wrap but she always sleeps in the buggy anyway!

I put Alfie in bed at. 9.30 and I'm sat twiddling my fingers waiting for something to happen! We are going to bed after him and getting up before him which is very odd, but nothing to complain about :) I guess my little guy just loves sleep!

We cleared out his first lot of clothes, 3 tesco bags full which I've donated but I kept a lot of his sleep suits and vest just in case we have another ;)

I've started a memory box for him. It has our wristbands from hospital, his first sleep suit and vest he wore, our discharge letter and a few other bits. I'm going to print out a photo of me and him the day after he was born. I love stuff like that, it makes me feel emotional. I feel like he is growing up so fast, he's such a clever smiley boy.

I've already told OH I can't wait to have another, to his surprise! Although I would like to wait a while so I can enjoy Alfie growing up.

Jolly- I keep forgetting to use my sling, and when I do I realise how much easier it is than lugging my pushchair around!

Carnat - ooh psoriasis is nasty, I hope that clears up soon xx

Bunny - you do have a strong little baby there! :-)

Toni - hope all goes well with own room. Your memory box sounds like a lovely idea. I am planning to create a photo book and get plaster casts of baby's hands and feet. Am doing these myself, but the last few attempts messed up a bit after some early successes.

I didn't do much tummy time as it used to upset baby and make him sick. Then when he could tolerate it he kept trying to crawl, except he uses his nose rather than hands to mostly move forward. The other day he found out how to roll onto his back, so now he does that right away every time.

Jolly - exciting that you want to go for a third. Xx

I am feeling broody and wanting more, but as a single mother living with my parents I wonder that it will never happen now (I am nearly 37). At the moment I don't have my period yet but I think I may be depressed when it does return for this reason.

Hey ladies.

Anyone else have a baby who tries to shove a thumb in their mouth when feeding? This is Bee's current trick. Only does it on one boob (so with one hand).

She sucks on her hands a lot in general but no thumb sucking unless feeding on that boob.

Also anyone else have a baby that does NOT sleep in the day? She has loads of little cat naps but nothing significant most days. Maximum nap time is 20-30 mins. It makes for a very grouchy baby come 6-7pm onwards

On the upside she is sleeping well at night. Goes down by 9pm and usually has one or two feeds in bed and up at 7am. She still doesn't go longer than a 4 hour stretch in one go most nights though.

X

Hi all

We have successfully moved Rafferty into his cot in his own room a week ago. Still waking 3 times a night for feeding though!!Starting to decide on a date to start weaning him off the boob-have loved feeding him but think the time is right for me to go into formula.I think it will probably help his sleeping and give me a bit more freedom as far as leaving him when I need to.
On the plus side I have decided to extend my maternity leave by 3 weeks!Have shuffled some annual leave around which means I will have a month on the payroll before actually physically going back.
We have lots of hand/finger sucking going on-sometimes I'm convinced it's not hunger so maybe the start of some teeth????

Nat Oisín is like that nap wise 20 minutes here and there but sleeps very well at night. I think he is teething too goes mad on his fists and I give him his teething ring and chews away on it and drooling like mad xx he has his next lit of jabs next Wednesday morning I'm not looking forward to that at all. This is most recent pic in last of his 3-6 month stuff xx

Jessica doesn't sleep well through the day either. Naps for short periods if shes in her pram or car but other then that its just cat naps on me throughout day. Sleeps well at night. Im trying to encourage self settling but its going really badly, she just gets really upset, doesn't sleep becomes overtired and a really unhappy baby. Does this mean shes too young and i should stop trying for now?

Had a terrible day, started with me trying to put her down in her cot for a nap this morning which she hated and has just fought her sleep all day since. Shes eventually noded off about 15 mins ago on me so hopefully she will wake up in a better mood and still go to bed at her usual time but im not so sure. Hope tomorrow is a better day! X

After our first I count 20 mins as a long nap, lol. She usually only took 5 or 10 min naps at this age. Once she got to about 8 months old she cut down to only 2 naps a day and then they were longer. Thankfully this one naps more.

As for hand sucking as far as I can tell its just something babies do they do do it more intensely if they are hungry or teething but they spend half the time with hands in their mouths anyway.

Tomas sometimes tries to suck his thum and the boob as the same time too.

Gabriella will sometimes sleep for 3 hours in the day, at other times 15 mins. She's so unpredictable at the moment!

She tries to suck her hand and book at same time too. She did fall asleep in pram with thumb in yesterday...so cute. But I don't really want another thumb sucker...DD1s teeth are going wonky from it!

I have a bottle of formula last night to try and get a bit more sleep. I'm not sure I'm pleased with how it went, as it was no diff from boob! Altho pleased cos that shows boob is good enough, I was looking forward to potentially having at least 2 hours in bed on my own!

Some babies acctually sleep worse with formula esspecially if they suffer with reflux or gas. I never tried formula with DD but her sleeping got even worse when she started on solids because it made her gassy. Everyone had said my troubles would be over when she started on solids so I was disappointed.

Worried about how sicky Alfie is. After his bottles he's not just bringing up a bit of sick when burp him, but he's now doubling over and making himself sick. I can feel him tensing his tummy muscles to throw up :(

Have you spoken to GP or HV toni? Bee is very sicky so I took her to see GP.... They didn't do much but it was worth it for reassurance that there was nothing untoward going on.

I took him when he's was 5 weeks old and the Dr said he is just a sicky baby. Before his sick used to just "come up" so to speak, but now he is forcing himself to be sick and going very very red. When I'm winding him he will hunch his back and his tummy muscles go very hard where he is bringing it up, a bit like when we are sick :( this is now fairly new. So I'm going to phone the HV this afternoon and see what they suggest. X

Could it be a cows milk allergy?

This is exactly what I thought! He has had a few runny nappies (although recovering from gastroenteritis last week) and seems like he has a tummy ache but not a colicky tummy ache. The more I sit here and think, I piece together the signs he has been displaying for a few weeks and it seems to add up. Couldn't get through to HV today so will try again tomorrow. Feeling like a rubbish mummy for not doing anything sooner :( although I've always thought it's something other than him being just a sicky baby. Ergh :(

Toni we were referred to paed from docs ar the end of march as we'd tried gaviscon and ranitidine for Mollie's sickness. She screams and clutches her tummy after her milk. At 12 weeks it seemed to get much better with just gaviscon but it's back with a vengeance.

Anyway, paed appt came through for June 8th! That's 10 weeks after we were referred! I'm still convinced she has a reaction to cows milk as she's super raspy after her feeds. Her nappies aren't too bad but she's been on gaviscon for most of her life. When she isn't on gaviscon they're very mucousy.

I would push being referred to paed as there's very little docs can do these days and they have to follow set protocol. I really hope Alfie starts to see an improvement soon :-( it's awful when they're sick all the time, I had to change Mollie 3 times in one hour today because she had fountains of vom coming up :-( x

Nat, Caleb is exactly the same...I've figured out he tends to need about 3 naps a day but you could set your watch by them it is rare he goes a minute over half an hour before he's awake again. It's all he seems to need though so I've tried to stop worrying about it...the only exception is after his sensory class he usually has a 2-3 hour nap!! He's a good sleeper though we have him down no later than 7:30 and he's usually up around 1 and 5 but he is then up around 6:30 and that's him. Last night it was 4:45 before he woke up which was unbelievable!

Caleb has also started trying to put his hand in his mouth while feeding from time to time. I take him off and tuck his arm under my boob/away from his face and if he tries to put it back in I just stop feeding. He's usually happy enough so again I just don't stress-I figure he'll keep me right!

When are people thinking about starting weaning? X

after his sensory class

Sorry, can I ask what this is? Is it something common in the UK? Sounds interesting, specially if it helps your bubs nap that long! :-)

Rio is also trying to suck hand and boob at the same time. I too just move his hand away and he seems not bothered by it. I think it's quite funny!
