***Jan & Feb Mummy and Baby***

Just read your labour story Baby_C! Wowser... You did amazingly. Well done!

X

I found a recipe for lactation cookies too, but it seemed a bit faffy!

Nat-I'm in Marbella, Spain.

DH and I were talking and I just burst into tears...feel much better after a mini breakdown, lol.

We decided we'll go to Uk once Gabriella has a passport. I'd hate for her to be much older before people meet her, and I'm worried my 90 year old nana won't ever meet her!

xx

Just edited my post as she was 5lbs11 not 6 lol.

Thanks carnat!

MW is coming tomorrow so will discuss options with her. She seems to be doing quite well today now so fingers crossed!

Baby C don't worry too much as your milk won't have come in yet- just offer her the boob lots and she'll soon start feeding well

With regard to Moses basket, just remember that she's had 9 squishy months in your tum, so the world is a bit scary- lots of skin to skin makes her feel secure.

Have you tried swaddling her, so when she drops off you can transfer her to basket/carrycot? Xx

congratulations babyc! swaddling worked well for our little one, she waves her arms around too much and wakes herself up. not sure if it will be the same for you but when my milk came in I woke up the morning with boobs like rocks! chloe had trouble feeding as the skin was very stretched but if you put hot compresses on it can leak out a little and allow just enough room for the latch to be easier (not sure if this is for everyone, just my personal experience) xxx

Have a look at the sleepyhead matress. It's like a nest really and the baby feels very secure in it almost as if they are being cuddled. I wasn't sure whether to buy one as they are a bit pricey but after reading good reviews I went ahead and bought one. It's been fabulous! Florence is nearly seven weeks now, and since 5 and a half weeks has been sleeping 10.30pm-6.45 in it. I co slept with my older two as it was the only way I could get any sleep so this time round I am actually getting some proper sleep. The only problem with her sleeping so long at night is that it hasn't helped my milk supply as night feeds are important for this apparently. I have been taking fenugreek for a couple of days now though so hoping this will help. Can't believe how the weeks are flying by! x

Is the sleephead mattress only for co-sleeping or can you use it in a crib?

X

Do you feed while baby is in the sleepyhead? Can't see how you'd be able to hold them for good latch. Oh and I ordered the ingredients for lactation cookies so will let you know how they taste

I've been trying to increase my milk supply and I've been taking fenugreek and eating porridge for breakfast and drinking a ton, also expressing every 2-3 hours if he hasn't fed on me. I've gone from being able to express about 50-80mls to generally being able to get 100-125mls a session. Don't know what's helped/if that's good but I'm building a supply of expressed milk so can hopefully start reducing formula but it's definitely difficult once they've had it as it clearly fills them up a lot more than breast milk.

Caleb didn't like snuzpod at first and we tried all sorts of things and he's now normally a good sleeper in it...he was mucousy first week because of the quick delivery so we raised the mattress under his head by rolling a towel under it...we also put a blanket on top of the sheet so what he's lying on is more cushioned. Then we also rolled a towel into a sausage and then rolled a blanket round that and put it round the bottom of the pod (under the sheet) so it cocoons him a bit. And then we put one of my tops in so he smells me-can also put a muslin with your milk on etc. At the start we also put a hot water bottle on the blanket so that it was warm when he went into it to try and make it as womb-y as possible! Don't know which one was the magic thing so we still do them all apart from the hot water bottle as we keep forgetting and he still sleeps! x

Having an emotional morning this morning. Just had a go at OH becuase he slept from 8-11am while i was buzy feeding, changing and settling jessica. I know its a bit ridiculous as one of us might as well get some sleep but I just saw him lying there flat out and totally lost it!

I think the thing thats getting me down atm is how much duscomfort my breasts are causing me! I dont think our latch is the problem as my cracked, bleeding nipples have totally heeled i think they are just generally achy and sensitive.
I am wondering whether my bras are too small because when i take my bra and pad off my nipples are always squashed down a bit and i think this could be making them hurt more?

Last night i also noticed that my right breast was really lumpy on one side (the same area as before but seemed much bigger this time). I did the usual heat/massage/feeding and this morning it seems less noticable but im not sure if its just because my breasts are fuller then they were last night?!

Sorry for the moan. I thought id been managing quite well but it seems to have just taken its toll on me over the last 24 hours xx

So much for my early night!

Went from 9 for half an hour then we were up pretty much ALL night. Gabriella was feeding / comfort sucking. I just kept thinking, this better help my milk supply!

So, this morning I gave her to my mum while I went back to bed for a couple of hours...thank god!

I think I'm going to buy a pump tomorrow as really don't want to go back to formula. How do you store breast milk??

I did do all this 5 years ago but seem to have forgotten everything!

Finally about to jump in shower and head to the beach. It's the last day of half term for oldest 2 so want to see them enjoy themselves.

xx

Hey ladies, I haven't been on for a while as extremely exhausted. My little chunk is 3 weeks old and already weighs 10lb 12oz (last weds). The cluster feeding has been killing me and I still can't master feeding whilst lying down. My boobs aren't huge so can't just 'pop it in their mouth' which they make sound really easy on forums (been constantly googling).
How is every one else dealing with breastfeeding? I just want to make it to 6 weeks as that's when it got easier last time. Then I'll decide what to do.
Plus. With all the feeding, I've only managed to give him a bath 3 times. Am I a bad mummy?
Good news though, my body has finally got used to being sleep deprived and the Dr. Has signed me off...yay!! Fri was the first time since birth that I didn't walk into the surgery an emotional wreck. They were seeing me twice a week as I had PND with my first.

Ps. I have purchased some 'baby stomach ease' tea which has helped settle Austin a bit more. It contains fennel, aniseed and chamomile. I love it. You can also give it baby direct but I take it myself. He does seem more settled and not farting as much so it must be having some effect.

Mrsjohnson totally get the having a go at your oh thing, I get irrationally mad at mine when he sleeps for ages, and I know I shouldn't but I think hormones and tiredness are to blame. It sounds like you're doing really well with bf though.
Immy isn't a fan of her Moses basket either, it has thrown me a bit as didn't have it with dd1. Warming it with a hot water bottle helps a bit I find.
Is anyone else's baby really noisy/grunty from about 4am? Immy seems to crank up the volume and wriggling every night from this time?!

Austin is always awake between 4 & 6 without fail. Not sure why but nothing seems to settle him until it's passed

No the sleepyhead goes in the crib. I think it is the reason I am not having to co sleep this time round. She feels very secure in there and her arms don't bash about against the crib when they have their startle reflexes x

Thanks for the advice ladies. We had a great day feeding wise yesterday, loads of feeds and for long periods of time. She had still lost weight when weighed this morning, she is now 5lbs which is a 13% loss of her birth weight. I've been out on 'plan 2' by midwife which is to keep up the feeds like yesterday but add in two bottles of formula, really not easy though as she had the formula then missed a breast feed because she wasn't happy! MW wasn't overly concerned about weight loss as she had such a good day yesterday so I'm not either, she is being weighed again tomorrow so hopefully we'll have a gain!

OMG you can by pouches to store the breast milk. It can go in the fridge (I think for 5 days?) or you can freeze it. If you put it in the fridge put it at the back of a shelf and never in the door x

Glad you have been signed off Steph.

I hear you about the big boobs. I have to 'hold' mine out of the way so they don't block Bee's nose.

I think breast milk is ok for 5 days in fridge and a month I freezer.

13% isn't massively over the 10% loss they say is ok? Although your bubs was a wee titch. I am sure she'll put all her weight back on, just keep at the feeding.

Both children are asleep so I actually had an hour myself. I hate sleeping in the day though and was so disorientated when I woke up. Bee is still fast asleep as is James so its a cuppa and a few biscuits for me.

I'm taking them both to the park when they wake up.

X

I just googled the sleepyhead thing. It would work well for LO I think! I actually put him in the cot between two roled up towels which has a simmilar effect.
