February 2018 Mummies - the final hurdle

I was pushing for Cecily. DP was having none of it though.

It's so hard!!! And we know the sex... So the work is halved lol.

Midwife appointment went well today! Had a blood test to rule out cholestasis! I'm terrified :( the itching has calmed somewhat since I slicked myself up with moisturiser! I'm just hoping its just my eczema playing up :( now I have a new test result to be anxious about!

I fell in love with Willow for a girl and Rafe for a boy, but my OH doesn’t like either of them.

He thinks since we both have unisex names (Jordan - me, Jamie - him) that our baby should have a unisex name, also beginning with J. He says it’s so we can all be J.*surname* (we’re not married either so this is quite exciting to me), names we’ve considered are Jesse, Jessie, Jude, Jade, Jody, Jett, I’m not overly enamoured to any of them if I’m honest, but I don’t think he’ll budge as he thinks it’s a good idea. If it’s a girl though I quite like the idea of Jessica Elsie, as his grandma was Jessie, which we can shorten to, and my Nanna who I was incredibly close to (and lost to cancer in February) was called Elsie.

I'm back to square 1 for boys names.
We just don't seem to agree on anything.

Okay another one I like is Ocean. What do you think ladies? A bit odd? Please be honest

Bad news for me!...I have obstetric cholestatis :( midwife rang me this morning..my levels are showing as elevated! I have a hospital appointment at 4pm..i am absolutely terrified :( why has this pregnancy been so frought with problems when my first was like a walk in the park :(

Feeling so rubbish (And itchy) :(

Sorry to hear that Sebbiesmum

Hope your appointment was fruitful? I'm sure it's like most things - the issue is if it's undiagnosed and untreated?

X

Sorry to hear that sebbiesmum!

Hope the appointment went well!! Are they able to give you something to ease the itching? Am I right in assuming this means an induction? X

Will go and read through to catch up now but wanted to share my crap day.

I got my results today from the GTT. The fasting was 4.9 and after two hours was 7.5.

7.8 is the cut off, so Im classed as borderline.

I have had the worst day trying to get help. I got my results over the phone and it seems that every dietician and every consultant and GD Midwife are on leave for Xmas. I asked when I would be seen, and she said 2nd Jan.

That just isnt acceptable to leave me unmonitored and uneducated for another 10 days when my baby is measuring so massively off the chart and I have so much excess fluid (a marker for GD).

Im now classed as high risk as baby is breech and I have polyhydramnios (excess fluid) so could end up with cord prolapse if my waters break.

How can they just leave me as I am?! Let me carry on eating what I want as I dont know any better?!

Ive argued with about 5 people on the phone today and eventually had a lovely dietician ring me and help. Shes given me loads of information and it seems like Im going to living on nuts, meat, eggs and ryvita for a while!

Personally it isnt for me, but I wouldnt be surprised/shocked if I heard someone calling their child Ocean. If you like it, thats what matters!

Oh noooo! So sorry.

How did it go?

Sorry to hear you have OC sebbiesmum. I’m sure al will be fine and you’ll be monitored closely and even maybe induced early?

Sounds like a typical Friday before the holidays Wednesday :( how annoying for you. I hope everything will be ok.im sure given you’re borderline if you follow the dietary advice that’s the best you can do until you are seen in clinic.

I’m having LOADS of braxton hicks/tightenings. It’s starting to annoy me.

Oh.. but my mum got good news today so we can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy the holidays without that worry. No spread of the cancer to her spine #phew

Thanks guys :) apparently it can't be diagnosed until my blood results are back, they took 3 vials of blood to test for lots of nasties with names i can't even pronounce! If all those come back negative then it will be more definitive that I do have OC! so in the meantime their treating me like I do have it until they get my bloods back, I have to have a scan on my liver to check for gallstones and testing my liver function!..but surely if I had gallstones id be rolling around the floor in agony?..i don't have that :(

They also said there's not a great deal they can do with the itching at the moment and just take my piriton..to try and stave off the itching which is driving me to the point of insanity! :/..i was sat opposite a nice lady in hospital who has to have her baby on boxing day because the baby wasn't gaining weight..the sheer look of fear in her eyes really got me :(..makes my problems seem like nothing!

They also did say that if my levels are higher than normal further on then they'll bring my c section forward to 37 weeks..which also makes me extremely nervous as I want her to cook for as long as possible :(

Hi Wednesday.

I appreciate you must be so frustrated, but your numbers on their own would point to you being clear of GD.

That of course doesn't explain your other issues and I do think you should have at least been asked to test your sugar levels (when I was first diagnosed there was a lady in the clinic who hadn't been officially diagnosed but she was learning how to test as she needed to submit some readings? I never got the reason why but assume it could be something to do with test being inconclusive)

I hope you don't mind but I've posted a pic of the numbers I was diagnosed on. They said that even being 0.1 under the cut off is fine and if you are under then you are under! But being on the cut off and above is not good. So I was diagnosed on my fasting blood being right on upper limit and 1 hour blood being 0.2 over.

Your hospital have been rubbish to leave you with such uncertainty. There is something going with you and just because the numbers don't tick the boxes doesn't mean they should rule it out. You may just be presenting a bit differently. The big baby and excess fluid are cause for concern regardless of the why's and wherefor's? Glad you did manage to speak to someone in the end and don't be too disheartened.

Just stick to lots of veg and salad and protein. I can still have a big plate of Bolognese with a side of steak... just not the spaghetti. Avoid milk - It's something a lot of people don't realise is actually quite high in carbs (Lactose)

I would push for a second opinion on January and request for a blood testing kit. Although by the sounds of it baby will be here in January.

Although take my tuppence worth with a pinch of salt as I'm now on insulin and still having erratic blood sugar readings so I'm a fine one to talk.

Good news about your mum TOR.

Sounds quite uncertain for you Sebbiesmum but it's usually the undiagnosed issues that cause most problems.

This is odd carnat - they didnt test me at one hour... I wonder what it would have been?

Thank you for the advice xxx I completely agree. Im just nervous that its near cut off and all of the other things going on.

Ive eaten sensibly today. Very sensibly. Im going to make a massive effort to follow a GD diet now until birth - Im 34 weeks tomorrow so not long xx

I think it varies trust to trust?

My hospital offer the glucose challenge test to everyone at 28w. So this is no fasting, drink glucose drink and blood test after an hour. If you have a high reading then you do the full GTT (fast from night before, blood 1, drink, blood 2 and then blood 3)

I think your trust must do a 1 hour GTT? Seems quite common when I had a quick Google.

It's all so confusing and worrying though? And being left alone over the festive period isn't great?

I have a telephone appointment on 27th and one of the diabetes team personal email address. My hospital seem to be the other extreme and won't leave me alone
