August 2017 babies!

Don't worry about moving close to birth - I moved the December before my little boy was born, he was 19th March and we moved December 11th so it was pretty close and as everything in the house needs doing a bit stressful but you just get through it.

Must buys: muslins. Hundreds of them. Bouncy chair - v important for getting a chance to go in shower! Play gym. Ewan the sheep or similar white noise maker. Sleeping bag thingys.
Maybe buys: nappy bin - was great when I had first as we were in a third floor flat and it kept all the smell contained when I didn't go down to the bin every day but now I don't really use it as we just take them out to bin as in a house.
Don't bother: baby bath. While my first was tiny I washed her in the bathroom sink then I had one of those seat supports that cost about £5 for the bath but that for quite annoying and I preferred to just hold her in the bath. But I never felt the need for a baby bath and it would have taken up a lot of space for something pointless. Moses basket, but that's because I have the stokke cot that goes small.

X

I didnt bother with the sheep thing. There is a free app on my phone which did the same thing. I had a baby bath that folded got easy storage, it was a life saver! Especially while My back was still killing me from labour.
I swear by my prep machine, it was the best purchase. I combination fed so it helped loads. Other things that I highly recommend would be a good monitor. I got a Motorola video one which i have an app on my phone and iPad for, muslins, digital thermometer and sleep bags.

Sorry Rose, I'm the complete opposite of you there

A bath was essential for me cus I'm so short that I can't reach over the big bath and safely hold the baby in the newborn grip. We've used ours with both boys and will use it with this one too, but it isn't for everyone.

Also never had a white noise maker, we didn't want them to get too attached to them (evil parents!), or a nappy bin. We did use nappy bags to contain smells though, and still do as we're in a middle floor flat. We didn't use muslins either but I know most swear by them.

Agree with Moses, ours was a lifesaver. Bouncy chair for #1 definitely, not so much with #2 (he just screamed) but we'll get another one this time around and see if this one likes it.

Wow that's a fab bump Elspeth :)

Yep I am on the look out for a secondhand maxicosi easyfix base Spuds. It's about one of the only ones that will go in my car! Who knew it would be so difficult and complicated haha.

Try and get the FamilyFix ISOfix base if you can as that has the multi facing capacity and fits both baby and larger (up to 4 years) seat. I think the maxicosi seats needed are Pebble and Pearl.

Happy Sunday evening guys. I think I have just spent the last hour and a half catching up on the pages it's moved so fast!
This week has been all steam ahead on the diy front as we had a plasterer in doing both bedroom ceilings and then OH has painted them this weekend once dry. His parents aren't speaking to us because I chosen to get a plasterer in to do the ceilings when they thought it would have just been better to patch up and then re paint. Baring in mind neither ceilings it turns out has been plastered before! So I'm happy that they aren't interfering for now!

If anyone is looking at sleeping bags Emma's diary have some 1 tog ones reduced this week until 9am on Friday and muslins also. I haven't even thought about a changing bag. I think I'm going to look now 🙂 I got one free with my pram but I think it might be too small.

I've been trying to research what to pack for a hospital bag as I thought better be prepared than not especially seen as I'm 24 weeks on Wednesday.

Hmm just checked and it doesn't look like it will go in either mine or the OHs car :( Neither of our cars are isofix so that might be why (my car is 16 years old and his 13 :P) I think the base is only really important for ease of use while he's using the carseat part of travel system? I might be wrong though.

I got given a bath secondhand, but I'm short too (5'2) so I think it will be good to have. It is huge though! So thinking it might just live in the bath most of the time and just move it when we shower.

We also got given a secondhand baby monitor, it doesn't connect to an app (as far as I can see) but it is video and audio both ways so hopefully will do :)

Has anyone made an amazon baby wish list? So far I haven't really shared it so I guess I'm using more of an ideas list :P I do have the sheep thingy on there though cos the reviews were good.

Very nearly finished the painting (the white at least) so have put together the furniture! Looks nearly like a proper room now and we've chosen the curtains too :D

Family fix doesn't support a two way facing pearl though - it will do a normal forward facing pearl and rear facing baby seat but only a 2way fix will do a rear facing pearl :)

Hahaha Kumber just shows the different preferences everyone has. I had a severe reflux problem with my second so I went through a million muslins a day. I thought bathing baby in the sink was just as effective at dealing with any back pain. Thing is I'd always just assumed people put the baby bath in the actual bath when it was in use so didn't really think it would make much difference - obviously I was wrong!

We were bought the Ewan and actually now have two although my son never really took to it and my daughter still has it on when we put her to bed but if we forget she doesn't care so she grew out of it being necessary and I don't think ever truly was dependent on it - unlike her dummy which is dependent on.

We have two different monitors - the tommee tippee digital video with sensor mat one which is great for newborns as it alerts you if it doesn't feel breathing. But also the picture is great on it. We also have the Motorola digital video monitor and although it's fine and you can move the camera around remotely to see the room should you need, to the picture isn't nearly as good and we bought that particular one as you could add cameras to it so you could have different bedrooms with different cameras but viewable from same monitor and that's been a joke - we can't find a single additional camera that works with it, they appear to be unavailable in this country and cost over £100 from USA. We couldn't find our receipt or we would have taken it back x

Agreed, it's definitely not one size fits all! We would get the right temp with the shower head and then quickly whipped it over to the baby bath to fill it up. My only criticism with it is that the water does cold quick but when they're so teeny it doesn't much matter. A sink is definitely easier for your back, we didn't go that route cus our sinks are teeny! It's what works for you at the time isn't it?

The muslins have tickled me, cus our second had horrendous reflux too but rather than sicking out, he sicked down so he lived in bibs and we mainly used wipes. Isn't it funny how we all work differently!

Dummies are the bane of my life atm but hey ho, we'll get there eventually l!

Hahaha 'sicking down' made me laugh. My little boy seemed to do up, down, out, sideways, everything. I was just covered all day every day despite the muslins! Can't remember if I said on here but I think, at 13 months we've finally got to the bottom of why...the dentist confirmed a significant upper lip tie which I had suspected since his first teeth came through with a huge gap. Apparently a lip tie like that can cause bad reflux as they swallow too much air when sucking, can cause them to breast feed frequently at all hours of the day (every 1.5 hours for me) and means they will refuse bottles as it's harder for them to get sucking. I had all those problems with him so seems that was the cause!

I guess they'll drop the dummy at some point. It's just a habit for my daughter now, she doesn't really need it unless she gets really upset and over tired. My son has one but has never been as dependent on it as she is and I think I'll probably get him off of it easier than her.

I have the midwife this afternoon, I expect it will be a fairly uneventful appointment and she is a pretty personality-less woman! X

My son was the same but with tongue tie. We're still waiting for surgery and he's nearly 2 which is a complete joke. It's terrible how they frequently miss tongue and lip ties. Like your daughter, he was feeding every 2 hours day and night for 10 months. Let's hope for both of us that our #3s aren't the same or worse!

Hope all goes well with mw, uneventful is good!

I had my mw appointment this morning and it was all good. Nice to hear the HB again, was 135-140bpm which I think is about avg?

And apparently I have good stomach muscles ha despite being a bit chubby :p which I kinda guessed cos bump has been shy!

Rose83- which Motorola monitor is that? We were thinking of one of them but not the wireless one x

Misscharli- that looks beautiful x

Charli looks nice already! :) our babies room still has loads of boxes from moving in there lol. Hubby decided he wanted to decorate in there but we had said no when moving in, but it won't be for a while!
Hubby felt baby move for the first time the other day, was a huge kick quite high up! She hasn't done it again though. She's hasn't moved alot for a few days, only feel her once or twice... I herd they don't move alot if they're having a growth spurt?

Thanks :) really glad to be nearly finished, it's been a slog!

Ah maybe PB! He has been quieter this past week too so maybe that's why!

Lol idk how your so motivated, I feel like shit all the time, can't even find motivation to make food during the day sometimes. Everyone's decoding and I'm just like leave me to die with a blanket on the sofa xD aha.
My nausea is back today to, and have a cold coming on.
Can't wait to get to the third tri and feel so good kicks everyday! X
