I've heard of it PB and a midwife definitely should have. Regardless I'd just bring it up as soon as you can to put your mind at ease. I think your body just takes over when you are giving birth though, it knows what to do and just does it, you really can't stop it - farts, poop, pushing all of that just happens if that's what your body wants! Also I hope this doesn't sound scary but what you said about one born every minute, I don't think the majority of them look out of it due to drugs, I honestly think that's exhaustion and coping with the pain. I had gas and air, diamorphine, epidural and a spinal block with my first baby and honestly I was only ever 'out of it' due to being exhausted and needing to sleep. With my son I had gas and air and went straight for an epidural as soon as they'd give me one and again the only reason I wasn't 'with it' some of the time was because of being tired and the pain. My hospital give an epidural where you hit a button every half hour to give you the drugs for the next half hour and within a few minutes you could see it hit my system because I would suddenly be totally with it and having a normal conversation because I couldn't feel the contractions as much. When they were putting the epidural in I was I agony with contractions only seconds apart (I was induced so they come more rapidly in a lot of people) and this midwife that was supposed to be holding me still was useless at calming me down and really annoying me. She was saying 'right hold still, this is the local anaesthetic and it will just feel like when you go to the dentist and numb your mouth for a filling' and I had a sudden moment of clarity because I was so annoyed with her and screamed 'I've never had a local anaesthetic in my mouth, I have perfect teeth!!' Lol.
MW appointment for me was obviously 22 weeks and I'm seen again at 28 weeks. This time she tested pee, listened to heart beat, took blood pressure and we discussed the pains I've been getting. So she said I definitely sound like I have sciatica and has referred me to physiotherapy. But that was it, everything perfect otherwise x
