August 2017 babies! The final thread!

She sounds useless PB!

I'm just back from glucose tolerance test. It was just as bad as I remembered and maybe even worse now as instead of leaving you for two hours to read a book they spend an hour and a half teaching you about healthy eating. Results today or tomorrow but they only call if something wrong.

Just posted a thread but - Asda doing pampers gigapacks for £8 x

Rose that sounds rubbish, who would want to talk about eating when you've been without food for the last 12+ hours. I'm so grumpy at the moment I would tell them where to go. Hope the results come back fine x

Pb: your midwife sounds useless x

I'm struggling at work at the moment. Tiredness and aching pelvis is really getting me down. I need to make it though to mid June and then I can go off sick. Got next week off as AL so hopefully that will help x

Love to everyone X

Oh no PB how annoying :(

I have my GTT tomorrow rose and I've been dreading it since the beginning. I won't stay and be preached to so sod them. I'll go sit somewhere else! OH is coming with me anyway.

Though I have a horrible cold atm, will they still do the GTT? Feeling hopeful :p

I expect they'll still do it misscharli. My hospital won't let partners in because they say there is no room for them. This teaching session is s new thing as I was at same hospital last January for the test and they didn't do it. Also when we were finally left alone it was five of us round a table and it wasn't like I could get a book or my laptop out or I would have looked rude but no one wanted to say anything so they were all just staring out the window. I'm a chatter so I just started asking people questions about their pregnancies so that got us all talking a bit but there was one woman who literally barely said a word to us.

Tashap just check your contract about going off sick most have a clause in it about going off before maternity leave. So for example mine (when I worked) said that if you went off sick with a pregnancy related problem within the four weeks prior to the date you'd said you'd be taking maternity leave from then your maternity automatically started. So say you'd said you go on maternity leave at 36 weeks and went off sick at 33 weeks with a pregnancy problem then the started your leave automatically and it wasn't considered sick time. When I had my son I was signed off work from week 29 to 35 with a chronic sinus infection but because it wasn't considered a pregnancy problem I was ok (and I worked week 36 then went on leave) x

I had my GTT last week and they didn't do any of that, just left me and my mum to have a chat for 2 hours, so you might just be able to relax! All hospitals probably have different practices!

Good luck today MissCharli. I hope GTT is not as bad as you've been expecting.
I hope everyone's results come back normal as well.

Anyone else been reading the May mummies thread. It's really bringing back the ecstasy ( and agony) of having a newborn.

Xx

The sounds awful Rose I don't know why they feel the need to lecture. For mine I was allowed my OH and we sat in a room for 2 hours with loads of other people.
Tashap I would definitely check as mine state that if I have time off on sick from 25 weeks they can start my maternity leave.
Last night we ended up in hospital because little legs hadn't moved all day yesterday and Tuesday night. We got checked out and we're bee happy with him I was hooked up to the monitor and they said he has a textbook heartbeat.

Thanks for the advise ladies. I checked and it's 4 weeks before your EDD and maternity leave triggers. I'm planning on going 3 weeks before anyway so an extra week isn't the end of the world x

Elspeth - yup, I've been reading them too, making me very nervous and excited. It will be us in hardly any time at all eeeek

Good luck for you GTT today Misscharli xxx

Rach- I'm glad everything was alright with the baby. Do you just call them up and ask to go in? I've had a few quiet days when I've thought about calling up but then he has a big wriggle. Xx

Nearly the weekend ladies x

My GTT was ok, they were lovely and we just sat for 2 hours, I took my iPad and a book but there were loads of magazines to read too.

I was so tempted to call on Monday too Rach, my little one is usually very wriggly but had a quiet day, I'm not sure if the fact I was tired after a busy weekend made a difference but by Tuesday it was back to normal, they know how to worry us!

At my GTT now, just had the blood taken and the drink. Yuck. Slept really badly worrying about it! Just sat in a waiting room with my OH watching Lorraine ha.

I'm glad everything was alright Rach, l guess he was just being naughty and hiding! Mine was very active last night with proper kicks, but he is still very quiet on and off. I think that's just normal for him though.

Morning ladies, good with GTTs and glad the rest have gone well

Today is v day for me, woohoo!! Not long now til I'm properly in tri 3 instead of being a sneaky sneak!

Usually if you think you have reduced movement you call your maternity assessment unit and they chat over the phone, they ask if you've tried drinking very cold water and lying on your side etc to see if baby has moved then and if not then they say to come in. I was really annoyed when I had my daughter as I'd been in for reduced movement at 36 weeks and 38 I think, then i was due on Friday and had reduced movement late on the Wednesday. The thing is you have to remember to be pushy because it's not 'no movement' you are watching out for, it's reduced movement from your baby's pattern. So I knew it was normal for my little girl to move up to50 times an hour! On this day she had moved 13 times in an hour. So when I called they fobbed me off and said if she had moved that much she was fine, about 36 hours later my waters went and I had grade 3 meconium which indicates she was distressed, she was then distressed for 18 hours of labour and had to have the thing done where they reach in and take blood from their head to measure their levels of distress. I'll never know for sure but I think my mothers instinct was telling me that Wednesday that she was ready to come out.

So moral of the story - never let them tell you it's all fine if you don't think it is! X

I was told you shouldn't worry about movement until 28 weeks :/
Mine moves crazy one day and barely the next... idk what I'm supposed to count as reduced movement when it's constantly changing? Think I'll live in the mau later in pregnancy aha. X

Ohh also, when are you supposed to start having belly measured? Cos I thought it was around the 25 week appointment but she didn't do it today and said book in for 3 weeks...

Mine is the same PB, but I'm 28 weeks! I'm not sure he does have a pattern tbh. She measured mine at the 25 week appt so not sure why they didn't at yours!

GTT all done, but I feel like absolute poo after sitting there for 2 hours. Don't want to go to work now :( I told them I wasn't gonna be in until 12ish so I'm gonna go home and get some food now.

Was really weird in the waiting room though, bumped into someone who was also there when we had 12 week scan, we only remembered her cos her OH fainted during the scan! But she was talking about how poorly her baby is and that they are getting her ready to give birth now, and I read exactly the same story on baby centre last night. I was sat there going I recognise this, and the details were too specific to be a coincidence!

That is weird misscharli! Although I'm terribly cynical and would be wondering if she was crazy and making it up but I'm sure no one would about their unborn child.

I can't remember if I've ever been told 'when to worry from' about movement but I think it's definitely only tri 3. I can't explain how you know, but you know. I think the thing is that in tri 3 they are so big you can't help but notice every little movement and you can see them too so when they suddenly reduce you know it isn't right. You will definitely start to realise that they wake up at night when you're trying to sleep and at certain times in the day you'll notice it's like they are having a party in there x

I messaged her when I finished and it was definitely the same girl. Just thought it was really odd both that we recognised each other from 12 week scan and that I had read her post yesterday. She had 2lt of amniotic fluid drained, and her babies rib cage hasn't grown for 3 weeks. So they aren't sure what's going on but it doesn't sound good. She was really nice and calm when she was talking about it to us, I feel bad for her.

Ha he certainly felt like he was partying last night! Do you think my anterior placenta will still be making a difference to movements?

MissCharli that must be such a worry for her, 2L is a lot of fluid! I so hope her baby is ok.

Kicks Count has a breakdown of what we should expect from baby movements (link) so I think it's from 28 weeks we can start establishing a change in movement? Don't forget as well ladies that an increase in movement later in pregnancy can also be a warning sign, it's not just reduced movement.

Tommy's Midwives says baby's movement increases up until 32 weeks and then should stay at the same level from there until birth.

I would be inclined to call anyway if you're worried, better to be safe than sorry.

Anterior placentas don't reduce movement, you just feel it differently so perhaps more over on side, or more round by both hips, depending on where baby and placenta are sitting.

Hope that helps?

I didn't even know it was possible for them to drain your fluid?! That sounds scary!

I had anterior placenta with my second and to be honest it made no difference to me, I wasn't told about it and only saw it in my notes at the end! I felt everything exactly as I had with my first! X

Me either! Basically it was like having an amniocentesis but she was hooked up for 90 mins! Must be really scary for her.

I definitely feel more solid movements when I lie on my side. I'm not worried atm but it's hard to know what normal is supposed to be, I've only felt movement from about 23 weeks anyway and that was just teeny ones. So I think maybe I'm just getting used to it as well. I work all day so I think I'm distracted a lot, probably I do notice and feel more than I remember?
