♡ October 2020 mummies ♡

Something I've noticed since yesterday, that I dont exactly know how to explain.. when I get up, I feel sort of a heavyness/pressure in my vagina. I don't notice it when I'm sat down. Anyone else have this?!

I get this... did u know u can get varicose veins there too.. at times i feel very swelled there. Even notice it at times when i need to sit for wee.

Yes I did! Really hoping I dont get any! I'm trying so hard not to cross my legs and I'm always careful when I get up now. I also get that feeling sometimes too. Must be all that extra blood flowing there lol

Another blue one for our group!!
Do we think us team yellows will have girls to even it out a bit.......? X

@PinkFlamingo I do wonder but apparently there is usually not an even split and a month will have more boys or girls. But who knows! Do you have any feelings about yours? We keep thinking boy but no idea why! Started buying little bits for baby and I'm obsessed with all the white sleep suits <3

I’ve started getting some bits too!! Eeek! I think new borns look lovely all in white. I’m thinking girl but literally everyone else is saying boy. Think I’m just rebelling! Ha! Have no clue really. X

If you get a massive group you tend to get an even split... my Australian group has 200 of us, 90 girls, 87 boys and the rest yellow. Spookily close!

My extended family is almost all girls.. this one is baby #14 and girl #12. lol. This group is going to be like that with the boys if you two don’t even it out! :P

Well last night I got a dreaded cramp in my calf. Scared my hubby half to death screaming out it was so painful, he stretched it out for me but it came back. Then I didnt sleep the rest of the night as it was so sore and it was so hard to sleep on my side with my leg straight :( any tips on how to avoid?

Yay! Congrats on baby boy @monkey1988 :blue:

I can’t believe there are only 3 girls in the group at the moment! It was the same in my last October group - we were practically all boys! Also in my sons antenatal group, there were only 2 girls out of 11. I’ve read that generally speaking there are more boys than girls born at a given time as very early on during development male embryos aren’t always as strong as their female counterparts so nature tends to favour them. Very interesting!

I’m sooo happy to be having a girl but also mourning the fact my son will never have a bro to play with. It’s funny isn’t it how you see your life play out in two different paths and when one wins you will ALWAYS be sad for the path you had to part with, no matter how happy you are with where you’re going xx

I completely forgot but now you mention it, I had this LOADS when I was pregnant with my son. It happened ALL the time, every night. No problems yet, but perhaps it’s still to come. Stock up on potassium and avoid caffeine - eat lots of bananas! X

Oh @Natalie8964 I had zillions of those cramps last pregnancy! Haven’t had any this time luckily but they can be horrendous! For me, I used to find when I stretched at night, even a little tiny bit, my calf muscles would often “over stretch” and cramp up. So I totally avoided stretching my legs in bed lol. Midwives also recommended magnesium tablets, they seemed to help too.

@WinterWolf @kj1 thank you both. It was honestly the worst pain! It's still sore now. I do have bananas so I'll try and eat one before bed! I also have some magnesium body butter but had forgotten about it so I'll get hubby to massage my legs with it :rotfl:

In other news I've just had a delivery! Eek <3

Baby deliveries are the best :)

Late to the conversation but cramping is always a visitor in my pregnancies. I've had some small ones in the last week or so. Like others have said, potassium and magnesium help so much and I've started taking them. Similar to what @WinterWolf said, I find that if I need to stretch my legs out while in bed I make sure I do so while pointing my toes towards my head, if I didn't do that it would turn into a cramp.

@Natalie1109, so exciting. It kind of suddenly made me feel things are real. I've been thinking about other stuff so much lately that pregnancy has kind of taken a back seat and not much thought goes into it other than enjoying baby kicks.

Hi ladies!

Prepare yourself for a long one...

Now it's the weekend and I've had some time to read up on everything I thought I would update you a bit on the findings at my 20 week scan. All was looking really well with the baby - she was super active and growing perfectly - up until they checked babies bowel at the end of the scan. They noted that it was slightly echogenic. The ultrasound tech explained to me that as there were no other markers which indicated any sort of problems with the baby, the most likely cause for this was that I had had a small bleed early on in the pregnancy (that many women don't even notice they have) and that baby had swallowed some of the blood through the placenta which was now showing in the bowel. She said this wouldn't harm the baby at all so not to worry. However, they wanted to take some further bloods to rule out congenital infections and they also asked me to stay on so they could do some tests on both mine and babies hearts (which both came back healthy and normal). I have to go for a review at 28 weeks to check babies growth and reassess the bowel to see if there's been an improvement as well as getting the blood results.

I left the scan feeling quite positive about everything as they were quite lax about it all, but having read over my scan report yesterday and then doing some further research into echogenic bowel, it all sounds so much worse than they were making out and I'm feeling really worried and anxious about everything. It could be nothing, or it could be something really serious - 8 weeks feels such a lifetime away. Here's what it says:

'Fetal growth and amniotic fluid volume are normal. There are neither obvious structural defects. Fetal growth and amniotic fluid are within normal limits.

The bowel appears echogenic on the scan today. There are no other structural malformations or any additional soft markers for chromosomal abnormalities seen on the scan today. We have discussed that echogenic bowel can be a normal varient but it is associated with chromosomal abnormalities such as Down's syndrome, fetal infections, intra-amniotic bleeding, cystic fibrosis, gut abnormalities and in some cases fetal growth restriction. The risk for Down's syndrome in the first trimester was 1:12576, which now becomes 1:7602. Maternal blood was sent for TORCH testing to rule out fetal infections. We have arranged to review at 28 weeks to check fetal growth, assess the appearance of fetal bowel and to discuss the results of the TORCH and cystic fibrosis testing.

The mother is aware that chromosomal abnormalities and rare genetic snydromes cannot be excluded by scan alone.

A combined rise assessment for preeclampsia using maternal history & characteristics and maternal blood pressure and uterine artery doppler was offered and accepted. The results show a low chance to develop preeclampsia before 36 weeks.'

I'm wondering whether to book in for a private scan in a week or two's time to try and put my mind at rest a bit or whether that's just going to make it worse!

xx

Oh bless you, that's such a lot to take in. It sounds pretty positive and that the risks of it actually being something are quite small. I'd say you could always get a private scan but I really dont know how much knowledge they have about specific problems, or whether they are only skilled to check measurements of baby. Could be worth giving somewhere like window to the womb a call to see before you spend the money? Of course it's another opportunity to see baby and how much they've grown so you might find it helpful in that respect. I'm sure that baby will be totally fine but it's still a worry isn't it. Lots of love <3

@Natalie8964 yes, totally! I’ve read loads of forums with Mums who have had similar and 97% of the time baby has luckily been born absolutely healthy with no issues but there is always the chance of being part of that 3%. The risk of baby having DS is still only 0.01% but I’m more concerned about things like cystic fibrosis. The test results can’t come soon enough, although I know I’ll now be worrying all the way up till due date regardless. I just hope she’s ok :( xx
