The silly questions thread...

I feel like I know nothing! Don't know where to start! Eek! First of many questions....

What bedding does a newborn need? Do they need pillows?!! Or just blankets? Or just sleep suits? Xx

Not supposed to use a pillow until they are a year old I believe x

Does your weight affect how soon you (and others) feel the baby's movements?
Yes I believe it does especially if your carrying that extra weight around your belly area , but if your weight is more generally spread like bum and legs I don't believe that would make any differance to when you would feel baby's first movements at all. xx

I am an 18/20 and I felt a flutter at 16 weeks, proper kicks at 18 weeks. Hubby felt baby not long after!

I like this thread =) my stupid question is do i need to buy a warm pramsuit all in one thing for my baby due in August?

how often do you change the babies bedding in the cot or moses basket? do we have to change it every day, every few days, once a week?

obviously if baby doesnt leak poo or pee on it.

Good question!!! :D.

Not sure, but I wouldn probably do once/twice a week... If any spillages ;), then more obviously...

I dunno!?

I don't very often. Tyler's not a sicky baby and I change his grobag once a week. He also spends a lot of time in my bed!! Lol

If he has a leaky nappy or is sick I'll change it no matter how long it's been.

I would imagine baby would be clean going to bed just after being bathed, but I am aware that they can get quite clammy during the night? and I plan on using dreampods so would only be babies head that is actually touching any of the sheets?

I just want to know how many cots sets to get, as they are so expensive!

PLEASE dont take him into your bed with you!!! especially if you are tired and there is even a tiny chance you will fall asleep.

being a police officer I have been involved in some horrible situations. The worst are when mothers fall asleep with their babies in their beds, or on the sofa and when they wake up baby is dead cause they have rolled on top of it at some point! its so tragic.

I totally disagree, if it's done safely cosleeping can be ok. In other countries it is encouraged. Yes people have unfortunate accidents but things can happen to a baby in a cot too, like suffocation on those silly bumpers. I have dealt with all guilt on the subject and when you have a baby who has been getting up every half hour - 2 hours for 5 months you have to sleep so you don't fall asleep with the baby on the sofa.

entirely up to you, but i know I wont be risking my babies life by doing it, no matter how tired I am or tempting it is.
i have seen these poor woman that is has happened to, and they not only have the untold grief for losing their babies, but they have the additional self hatred and guilt at knowing its kinda their fault.
I wouldnt wish that on anyone. And every single one of those woman would give the same advice as me, DONT sleep with your baby!

I am going to buy a cosleeper crib to avoid the whole problem. The baby will be exactly next to me. I can cuddle it
And sooth it and move it near me to nf and then back in its own little place without me getting out of bed.
There is a way to make co sleeping safe. Like a harder mattress, no duvets, parents that use no drugs or smoking or alcohol etc etc.
But as I am a pretty lazy person and I love my duvet and cuddles with oh cosleeper crib for us instead of worrying every night lol.
There are countries where cosleeping is the normal thing to do really. But I suppose they know how to do it properly...

those things are a great idea. I might get one for when baby outgrows the moses basket. Planning on having the basket right next to the bed anyway, and am getting a recliner nursing chair for the nursery. Falling asleep with the baby on me is a HUGE fear of mine, after what I have seen and heard.

its a very real possibility and thank the god that most of us will never experience it.

Have to agree with Lynds on this one ... For the same reason I NEVER speed when driving ... I know I could never cope with the consequences!

Please excuse any typos from
My fat fingers!

My friend is a succesful co-sleeper with her 5 month old.

She has done this from day dot.

There are a lot of benefits but I am not convinced and it won't be something I'll be doing....

What are these "co-sleeper cribs" you speak of?

i am trying to find a decent priced one just now. i dont want one with slats cause then you need a bumper and that can be just as bad!!

this is the kinda thing. They have sides that go up and down to open the crib up to you, and they are fixed to the side of your bed.

I am sure there are lots of successful co-sleepers. But on the rare occasion, things can go wrong. I just couldnt live with myself if I hurt my baby so cant even let myself risk it.

Carnat they are cribs when the one side is missing anthem height is completely adjustable so you can put them at exact same height as bed and fasten them there. It's like an extension of the bed but the baby has its own dedicated place with a hard mattress and not in the way of your duvets or crashed under you ifykwim.
Of you bf you get the baby closet to you and when you finish you Just move it back in its place without you getting up.
A cheaper option is to buy a normal for and get the one side off and put it near bed I suppose.
Only problem is that cots have like 3 height positions, they may not match exact tour bed height.
Anyway here the price is the same so we are going for a co sleeper crib.

Wow I'd never heard of co-sleeper cribs, gonna look into them. Prob won't get one cuz we just bought a crib for next to the bed, but will look anyway.

As for co-sleeping in general, I really dislike the idea. As others have pointed out, it can be so dangerous for baby, and it can make it harder to separate and put baby in their own bed. I also think it can disturb baby's sleeping pattern. X

My SIL co-sleeps with her two children.... My nephew is 3 years old and my neice is 4 months old....

I like the idea of a co-sleeper crib as a nice balance.

Personally co-sleeping is not for me and luckily hubby shares this view, but we will have our crib pretty much right next to my side of the bed so that I can feed easily at night.
