SPD Support Thread

I had an easy labour on just gas and air and I was in a wheelchair with my SPD - it can be done

I just assumed the pain and weakness I get turning over and getting up was just due to the pregnancy weight now I know the reason why

Haha auto correct eh! i had a labour less than two hours just gas and air. didn't have time to fill the water bath but could have had it. it didn't make labour any harder i found it easy and laid on my back on the bed how they say not to but it was just how i felt best xx

Saw my GP today, he said they can't help at this late stage, recommended hot baths, hot water bottles and lots of rest! He said a natural birth is fine with SPD and shouldn't cause any extra pain which is reassuring! im hoping for a water birth and this is also meant to help! 39+3 today, really hope she comes soon!! No signs tho, even tho her head has been engaged for weeks!! X

I'm wondering If I have this.
As I find it really hard to walk as my hips hurt so much. I also have burning pains going down my thighs and get shooting pains in my bits, and have awful lower back pain,
Does this sound like it could be ? Xx

Could be hun go see your mw.

Lol PC I know how you feel. I sleep half upright and half on my side. Kinda hard to explain but I have a big cushion and a pillow propped in upright position and my pregnancy pillow half flat and half curving to upright position. Pregnancy pillow can still just about fit between my knees and goes under bump and boob and my head rests just above the top bit.

Have to sleep like that as laying completly flat my hip/leg/bump hurts too much and I almost throw up. Sit upright completly and back plays hell.

Scattyash that's how mine started with the exact same symptoms, I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago & have been referred to a physio. You should see your gp or midwife hun xx

I finally got a yoga/birthing ball and wondered if anyone with spd uses one? It seems like I'm in so much more pain! But I would have thought it would help as everything is aligned and posture should be correct? Want her to engage but also want to be able to move!!! X

Don't have the room for one of those balls but I can't imagine it'll be comfy for SPD, especially if your coxix are effected too!

I think I may have a mild form of this- had shooting sharp pains in my lowere back, moving from side to side since about 8 weeks, & the midwife reckoned sciatica for that. I am now 35 weeks, & for about the last 5 weeks, I feel like my pelvis is going to split, & my hips are very sore. The pain is excrutiating somedays, & much more manageable the next. I feel loads better when I kep mobile, but sleeping is difficult, because turning over in bed, & getting up for a wee is so painful! Midwife sort of fobbed me off though, recommended I try yoga before going down the physio route.

Hi
I've had physio for SPD and been given a support bandage to wear. While it is helping a bit it's also making me sweat buckets and its making my knickers & tights chaff me.
I'm also anaemic and own iron tablets which are causing me to have loose movements. I'm feeling pretty grotty to be honest. I get no sleep and while I know others suffer worse than me I'm really struggling to cope. I'm 34 weeks on Friday and I really would like to be signed off work to see if resting up would help. I don't want to start mat leave early only to find its a waste of time.
I work in a bank. Sometimes I'm sat for a couple of hours and when I go to stand up my hip gives way.
My colleagues have never heard of this and because they have never experienced it they are making me feel like I shouldn't be moaning. I've cried in my office on a few occasions because its hurt so much. Lack of sleep and pesky hormones are probably not helping to my little pot of misery I have going on.
Anyway if I visit the Gp I need time off work and they will comment on this and make me feel awkward. If i call the Dr's will the Gp be able to issue a sick note based on my my records showing I have spd?
I just feel like I'm pushing myself too hard.
I've never had a sick note before and don't really know how to go around asking for one. I don't want to feel like a scrounger!! I never take time off :-(
Any help appreciated x

Hun you should definitely seek to your gp, I'm sure they'll sign you off for a bit.

I have SPD, I was diagnosed at 10 weeks and I can't imagine how bad it must get the further along you get. I don't even have a proper bump yet, lol!

Im in agony if I sit for long periods and luckily/or unluckily I work for myself so I'm finding I can't work full-time because I can't sit all day in an office chair.

SPD is a recognised condition and your employer should do everything they can to help you. Have they offered you a different chair or regular breaks to stretch your legs etc?

I'd definitely chat to your gp about this as you shouldn't have to suffer like this. Good luck hun xxx
