SPD Support Thread

Keep legs together when getting in and out of bed. Alternate between sitting and walking, doing too much of either can make the pain worse. Try a support belt, it didn't work for me, but know it has helped others. Also speak to your midwife or GP about being reffered to physio. The good news is, it goes away after birth x

I don't want to upset anyone but don't bank on it going after birth, my LG is now 9 weeks old and I am still in pain daily, taking painkillers and still seeing physio x

yeh some people it takes a while longer luckily i was back to normal straight away felt better than i had in months lol x

hiya guys.
Midwife just diagnosed me with this today :( So that's even less I'm allowed to do now and the reason I've hardly had any sleep at all for past few weeks :(

She also told me it's only going to get worse until baby is born!

:( i've just got back from physio, she's given me some exercises to try...
i wanted drugs!!!
i'm in so much pain just from her showing me how to do them :(
dysco have you been referred to physio too?

xxxxxx

I had this on Friday, she gave me lots of stretches to do and told me to do some light pregnancy exercise

I hope it works!

what kind of exercises have you been given? pushing your foof in and out??? if that makes sense hahaha
i'm not convinced but i'm certainly going to try!

xxxx

Woah I was told not to do much so I move my pelvis as little as possible :s

I just want the pain to bugger off!

It depends on how bad your pelvis is. By the time I seen a physio, my pelvis was pretty bad, and I was only able to do one of the exercises and given crutches. But was told if I'd been seen earlier I would have been able to do more of the exercises which would have helped x

hmmm i didnt sleep last night, i was in a lot more pain after the exercises but i suppose i've got to give it a go...
maybe it gets worse before it gets better, she said that she wants to sort my foof pain out rather than the pain in my hips... i'm moving as little as possible too!

Yes! lol, pelvic floor exercises, also stretching my legs and she said I need to straighten my lower back, but my bump has pushed it out and I can't help it! Will try my best though

did you get any other exercises to try? xx

Hmm that makes sense I suppose. Could be no exercise for me since my facet joint near my pelvis is non existant due to athritus.

Forgot to ask if pottering about in a swimming pool will help. Climbing stairs every time I go to loo is so painful now :(

swimming pools must help, i feel so much better after a bath! saying that it's a right struggle to get out haha :)

Zal, i have to do pelvic floor but also kind of rocking my foof back and forward? like the triangle at the front, which is apparently helping push out the dip in my lower back when i do it...
its so difficult to explain, and quite difficult to do!!!
xxxx

I wasn't given any exercises to do by the physio. I've been doing pelvic floor exercises when I remember anyway. The physio said the same about my lower back but she said that can't be helped, it's because of my bump! She did some weird pushing down on my hips and got me to push my bum against her hand but no exercises to do at home.xx

Swimming pool will help, being in a pool when I was pregnant was the only time i wasn't in pain. It's even better if you can use a hydrotherapy pool x

I'm really glad I found this thread! I've just been diagnosed win SPD at 10 and a half weeks

Have been in pain for the last week, it's in my tailbone, bum and hips. I've also been having pain down my legs and up my foof! I've been referred to a physio.

It would be great to speak to others who have this xx

I've been suffering from SPD for a few weeks now but the last week or so it has become unbearable. I get an immense pain when I get up or if I turn over in bed, it's keeping me awake its so painful. Have been in floods of years this morning as I'm just finding it all so hard to cope with, have had an awful pregnancy with morning sickness ect so this gas kinda sent me over the edge. My baby has been measuring a couple of weeks bigger at my appointments, I'm now 39+4 and beginning to panic that labour will b horrendous now with this SPD. Has anyone been given anything to help ease the pain? xx

std can actually make labour easier because your pelvis is more lax ad easier for baby to pass through. i had a very easy labour and put it down to std helping actually. last time towards the end u was given co codamol xx

Sorry but std :rotfl:

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

That made me smile too, the small things eh! :rotfl:

It's useful to know though that SPD doesn't neccessarily make a natural birth out of the question. I heard water births can help SPD sufferers which I quite fancy anyway xx
