*~*~* September 2015 Mummies *~*~*

Haha Gilly, I loved re-reading my old labour thread, so funny how much you forget!

Hope everyone feels better soon, we are a right bunch aren't we?! haha x

Ohh love reading back on threads!
I've finished work. My manager has brought everything forward for me so that after today, my holiday starts x

Brilliant news Kelly! Enjoy the well deserved rest hun x

It's not exciting, just brought back memories. We had a bit of a rubbish time after O was born, the hospital but him under a series of invasive and as it turned out, unnecessary tests which tarnished things for us a bit. Not in regards to Otto, he was perfect. But it's why the thought of a hospital stay stresses me out a bit, silly because I know it was a one off.

Kelly, that's fabulous news about work!!! Get your feet up and enjoy some time with your little boy before baby arrives. Xx

Well glad it's not just me feeling rotten today, sorry ladies! Baby was quiet last night and still this morning, if I don't get more movements from him, I'm ringing up in a few hours. Had s cold drink, a lie down, etc, all the usual things that sets him off but not working x

Awwww Kelly that's amazing!! So happy for you, and slightly jealous too haha. It's what you needed tho so I am so glad they sorted it :) x x

Woah it's been busy on here!!
Michelle - glad Harry is feeling much better.
Kelly - fantastic news!! Welcome to maternity leave!!
Bunny - I take it you've had no more leakage??
Purplecandy - how are you doing now? Baby movements increased? ...
MaryP - hope you're feeling better? I had a rubbish nights sleep too, weather was gorgeous yesterday so we went for a sunset walk in the countryside but meant we ate dinner late so I woke up with really bad heartburn. I propped myself up on loads of pillows to go back to sleep but then woke up at 4:30am with a really sore back/neck from sleeping sitting up. Can't complain though - I've been able to do nothing all day. I've binge watched home and away and done some internet shopping - always makes me feel better too Gilly

Anyone else doing cord blood banking for baby? I know there was a whole thread on it not long ago. Hubby and I did some research into it and I think we're going to for it ... Received our welcome pack this morning and had a good long chat on the phone with one of the representatives today. Seems like something out of a sci-fI film - having baby's stem cells cryogenically frozen for 25+ years incase he needs them to cure something awful (hopefully would never be the case) but my husband's really keen on it ...

Xxx

Gilly, I hope your experience is better this time.
I have never even heard of cord blood banking!! I'll have a look xx

Nope summer all seems fine :) probably just more leakage yesterday because I was non stop in work.

Never heard of cord banking either will look it up! xxxx

I've just got back from the hospital, they did a trace and everything ok, felt like a plonker for wasting their time but they were really good, said the position has has changed which has probably affected it and with me feeling a bit rough. Hope the rest of you are feeling better and babies are behaving.

Summer, what does it cost for the cord blood banking? x

Glad everything's ok Purple! Don't feel daft, if you hadn't gone you'd have been continuously worrying which isn't good for our little beans! Sometimes I wish I could just have a look in to my tummy every now and then and see what position she's in and how she's doing, would put my mind at rest over so many little things everyday ! xxxxx

Fab news on finishing early Kelly.

Never really heard bout the blood thing. Wouldn't want to do anything for this bubs we hadn't done for Harry tho. Doubt my hospital does it anyway.

Harry has had a great day at nursery n shattered now so hopefully he will sleep well later. Last day of working for me tomoz.

Glad everything is ok with bubs! Don't feel silly - better to be safe than sorry.

There's several different companies doing cord blood banking. it is pretty expensive but there are different packages available depending on whether you want volume reduced blood / whole cord blood / whole cord + tissue etc. but your basically looking at between £1,500 - £2,500. There are different payment plans depending on who you go with. It sounds a lot but it's for the first 25 years of your child's life; obviously you don't want to think about your child needing protection/treatment from cancers/diseases etc at any point in their lifetime (let alone as a child) but £100 a year is pretty decent to offer this kind of protection should it be needed in the future. The sofa suite in my living room cost about that  The sample can be stored beyond 25 years (for the whole of their life in fact) but obviously when they're 25 they can decide whether they want to continue having their stem cells stored.

It is a minefield!! Hubby and I spent a long time the other day researching. Like I say it does seem a bit like something out of a Sci-if film at the moment but this service has actually been available for over a decade now and the midwife liaison at my hospital knew exactly what I was talking about when I rang up and quite a few people do it.

I spoke to the company and my hospital about the logistics of it today. My only reservation at the moment is that you have to pay a non-refundable deposit for the sample collection kit and the phlebotomist to be present immediately after I labour - the blood + tissue needs to be taken less than 2 minutes after the placenta is delivered to ensure optimum stem cells are retrieved. Most hospitals/midwives won't do it (including mine) because it's obviously a private service and not part of NHS but apparantly they are familiar with the process and happy for the company to send their own private phlebotomist to wait in the hospital whilst you're in labour then be present for the delivery of the placenta so they can procure the sample.
There is always a risk that a sample is inadequate for storage, due to contamination or other factors (though the rep said this is very rare) - but the deposit is around £390 (not an amount I really want to risk flushing down the toilet) but I guess there's no way round it - initially it was £545 deposit (£245 deposit + £300 phlebotomist) so the rep I spoke to today has already reduced it for us ...

I'm really tempted and hubby is very keen - just wondered if anyone else was considering it or already done it? ...

Xxx

Feel the same as you, Michelle. I wouldn't use the cord bank for ourselves as we hadn't with Otto. Would definitely donate it if I had that choice however.
Being out and about today and I can really feel it, feel very periody which is always a sign I've overdone it. Off to Meadowhall tomorrow so going to have to take it easy, somehow shopping helps tired feet! :) xx

Ekk no way cud we afford that, even with the plan thing I no hubby would say no.

Does sound really interesting summer and if it's something you want to do then go for it! I've never heard about it at all hit will be looking it up now :)

I've had the night from hell (ok probably not that bad but 33 weeks pregnant it feels that bad). OH is out all night he's got a pre season friendly game against Everton, really wanted to go but didn't want to drive there and back late so the plan was I'd go with his dad. His dad has a chest infection so hasn't gone. Kept thinking if should drive myself and then decided against it, North Wales - Liverpool is a fair way to go on my own if anything happened and would be driving back late. So decided on bath and film night , our Sky isn't getting reinstalled till next weekend after the house move so can only watch films at the moment on Playstation. All settled out my bath, had tea and the playstation remote has died. So I'm currently sitting in bed staring at the wall haha! No tele, all my books at still at the old house and the film won't play on my laptop!

grrrrr x x x

Glad you had no more leakage Bunny :) Shame about the films - I thought the charger for a ps4 remote was the same as most smart phone chargers? USB on one end and mini USB on the other?

Summer - that sounds brilliant but I really couldn't afford to do it as much as I would love to. Oh walked out of his job and has yet to find another and I am a SAHM :( Good for you if you go for it though, brilliant bit of peace of mind.

Purple - glad baby is ok, never feel silly for getting checked out hun. I have been on a trace twice in the last month and both times all was ok but they said you should always get checked if you have concerns as they would rather you come in and be fine than stay at home and something go wrong :)

Hope everyone has had a good day. Things are ramping up for me today - increased discharge, light period cramps, and bowels defo gone into clear out mode (tmi I know haha!), body can defo tell we only have weeks left now :D Very exciting!
