My vegan food journal

I really dislike tofu, it's the texture! I forgot we've got a holland and Barrett near us! It's bloody pricey tho! Went to get the stuff to make the cake before, forgot bloody veg oil tho :wall:

I eat about 95% raw, so I'm about as raw vegan as its possible to get.

It is expensive to start with because you experiment a bit with what you like and at works etc. the longer you eat raw the less you eat in terms of volume as you get more nutrition out of the food so you require less to sustain you.

Like I had raw crackers with home made pâté for dinner. The crackers are £4 a box but do 4 meals, the pate works out at about 30p a go. So I was a lot less expensive to feed than my husband who I made a beef stew for.

It really appeals to me, I suffer from depression and I have found that what I eat massively affects how I feel, I just get the feeling I'd feel amazing. Do you follow any blogs/have any starter recipes? What do you eat in winter (I find I crave comfort food, vegetable stews and soups etc which are obviously cooked!) sorry for all the questions.

So, not been here for a bit. Anyway I have been really exploring vegan foods and being more experimental with my substitutes. Made some great meals and some not as great meals. Meals the children have loved and some they've hated. We're getting there though and I'm so surprised at how many amazing recipes are out there. We've switched from soya milk to oat milk which has been a huge success. Here's some piccies of meals I've made recently.

Roasted broccoli and chickpea burgers with rocket salad. These are the most amazing burgers I've made! Highly recommended! Kids loved them too!

mmmmmmmmmm looks yummy, you're making me hungry! :)

It's true there are so many amazing and creative vegan recipes out there. I've got a backlog on my pinterest boards I'm waiting to get round to making :)

Ditto! I really want The Mouthwatering Vegan cook book for my birthday! One of the girls on my fb has it and she's always putting up the amazing stuff she's made!

mmm I've not got that one but I think I might have made a few recipes from the site as the name rings a bell!

The vegan sausage and bean shepherds pie was from her website. I also absolutely love The Gourmet Vegan! The roasted broccoli and chickpea burgers were from his website and I recommend them to everyone!

Hey, could you maybe send me the recipe for the chickpea burgers please? The only meat I eat is fish so variations of "burgers" are always welcome.

Ah great, I'm gonna give that recipe a go too.

Hun, I know exactly how you are feeling. The badger cull is outrageous, totally ridiculous, wish we could get rid of this government, they don't give a crap about animals. I went through a low time a couple of years ago when I first went vegan. (was veggie before). I watched the trailer for earthlings.com and that was it, my eyes were fully open. (couldn't watch the full film but knowing about it was enough). It's like seeing the world through whole different lenses. What really helped me was a book called 'Why we love dogs, eat pigs and wear cows' by Melanie Joy. You should read it if you get a chance. Also Colleen Patrick Goudreau's podcasts are a great help too http://www.compassionatecook.com/publications/food-for-thought-podcast
Always here if you need a chat hun xx

Is it too early to make burgers?! I've just caught up and am now starving  have you tried the chickpea and broccoli burritos from thugs kitchen? Theyre amazing! I'm eating awfully ATM, I'm really lacking in inspiration :( I'm finding myself more and more compelled to go vegan, I think it's just a matter of time tbh!

I honestly panicked about recipe variety etc when I first started and I was rather easy on myself, at first I still used dairy milk-never again! Then I realised how many amazing recipes are out there! I have tried things I've sworn for years I've hated (some I have loved and others I've still hated) plus some random things like vegan cheese etc. I was worried about things like vit B12 and vit A panicked myself and got into a tizz about the kids nutrition but then I realised that once you get past the 'propaganda' that you can't have a healthy life without meat/fish/dairy (and believe me you absolutely can live a healthier life!) you can do a million different things! Recipe wise I mostly use the gourmet vegan, the vegan zombie and the mouthwatering vegan blogs. I'm doing vegan cupcakes next week and vegan ice cream is on the cards in the bear future!

^^^ totally agree, once you start looking for vegan recipes you can't make them fast enough, theres so many amazing recipes out there. You can pretty much veganize anything and it opens you up to a whole new world of new foods. I now eat the most creative and colourful meals I've ever eaten and so much healthier :)

The whole 'propaganda' thing is pretty much what the book above is about but from a psychological perspective. (She calls in 'Carnism' - it's quite a mind blowing).

And always feel free to message me for recipes :)
